Actually, virtualbox or alternative OS would be my last resort in case I could not solve this issue. I would prefer to somehow solve this issue under Windows8 x64 to keep my system simple and take maximum advantage of updated hardware. You could run it on a stable earlier version of Windows that you previous used before upgrading.
