i don't know if i can post the pdf due to confidentiality level (but i will ask my boss). i use fop 0.20.5 and as you can see here http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/0.20.5/fonts.html
according to the used font the output pdf will not have searching/cut-paste etc... activated
i will see if i can send a pdf without confidential data

It has nothing to do with the font - and switching fonts
won't help you.
Can you post the PDF in question - and I can look to tell you
the REAL reason that search isn't working?
