Well, according to gmail help, they do support POP3, (Rick's instructions are from the support page) but it's not the default. You must go into gmail settings and enable POP3. However, I still maintain that IMAP is a better option.

I don't use Outlook, so I'm not familiar with their error messages, but that doesn't sound like a proper account, although that might just be a name given to the account. The actual account ID should be your full gmail email address.

Actually, I don't think g mail uses POP these days, could be wrong.
But as the Jeff said, IMAP is much more versatile than POP.

I'm not sure what might be going wrong, but if you want to access your mail on both your phone and your computer, you might want to consider using IMAP rather than POP3.

Hi Andy,
Give this a try:

Read Gmail messages on other email clients using POP

You can open your messages from Gmail in other mail clients that support
POP, like Microsoft Outlook.

Step 1: Make sure POP is the best way to read your emails

IMAP and POP are both ways to read your Gmail messages in other email
clients.

IMAP can be used across multiple devices. Emails are synced in real time.

POP can only be used for a single computer. Emails aren't synced in real
time. Instead, they're downloaded and you decide how often you want to
download
new emails.

Step 2: Set up POP
First, set up POP in Gmail
list of 6 items
1. On your computer, open
Gmail.
2. In the top right, click Settings
Settings
.
3. Click Settings.
4. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
5. In the "POP Download" section, select Enable POP for all mail or Enable
POP for mail that arrives from now on.
6. At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.
list end

Next, make changes on your email client

Go to your client, like Microsoft Outlook, and check these settings.

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

I have a Gmail account that I set up on my phone, but am wondering how do I
go about setting it up so I can access it with OE on my PC?
