Reducing fragmentation: because people chose to install updates they wanted, it became a bit hard for Microsoft to track down issues and come up with workarounds as quickly as possible, hence cumulative update model was implemented in an attempt to reduce this. 2. Ease of deployment: the idea behind this move is to get people up to speed in getting their computers updated to latest patch level in one move. 3. Windows 10's influence: Window 10 embodies the above reasons when it comes to CU's (at times, cumulative updates caused issues). Cheers, Joseph
