You know, we need the extremists, too.
The extremists make the less extreme stuff look more acceptable. If we
didn't have RMS, then the "open source" people would be the extremists.
In addition, *how* do you be more effectual about free software than he
is? His message is all the more relevant with all the lockdown features
floating around Vista.
While I personally won't use the GPL (I'm a BSD license fan), the fact
that it exists makes life better for the BSD folks.
