Whoever invited him must have had no clue who rms or the FSF were, which
I find rather surprising. I had a feeling that professor who introduced
him was a pretty clueful guy and would have known about all of this. If
you want to have the company of rms you best not confuse patent,
trademark, and copyright law with "IP", you don't say Linux without the
GNU, don't expect him to use or permit to be used proprietary software,
and you definitely don't conflate Open Source with Free Software. If you
have a problem with any of this just don't invite him. It is well known
that he doesn't approve of this sort of thing. He is the head of the FSF
afterall. Stopping that sort of thing is their mission and rms'
religion. Anything else is like asking a Jew to eat pork just so as not
to be an inconvenience to us non-Jews.
If he's going to demand that streaming be done in Ogg Theora, than he
should point to a stable implementation of a streaming server that
can do so.

Numerous other people seem to have pulled off live theora streaming.
Surely UCSD can manage it also. :)
We are graciously transcoding the recording and (trying) to get
something to shove it into Ogg Theora, and if there is interest, I
will inquire as to it's location once it's done. If the transcoder
stops crashing. Someone else's problem, though.
I would love to know the location once it is done. Thanks for doing this!
P.S.: While I did decide to not attend, and actually had real work to
get done anyway, SOMEONE who did attend could have alerted the others
from this list that were in attendance that my office was a scant 50
feet away, and y'all could have said hi. :)
I suspect that persons initials are J.H.R. I would have gladly stopped
by and said hi. Well, next time! :)
