Well, it won't be the first time I have disagreed with authority. I still maintain that kilo and mega should be abbreviated "K" and "M" and will do so until they pry my keyboard from my dead, cold, fingers.
And as for using kibibit to represent 1024 bits, I have never seen it used I suppose because folks who are concerned about such things simply assume that a kilobit is 1024 bits.
