and there's the rub. unless alternate choices of music can be seriously considered for the baroque lute and alternative instruments considered for the playing of baroque music, then i'd say this thread is at an end. sincerely - bill ps - are chladni wave patterns more or less constant in their appearance or do they change in accordance with the shape of the sound chamber? (would an "a" note played on a double bass produce a similar pattern in the sand as an "a" on a mandolin?)
