The invariant in our stable series was always to keep the same file format. In my humble opinion this is a very good practice and something that we should continue. With that said beamer support is something very useful. After spending much of the semester composing slides with lyx (in beamer) I appreciate an improved support for beamer. This is one of the areas where it is more difficult for newcomers to grasp (from personal experience). There are then two choices: 1) incorporate the changes in 2.3 as they are more or less self- contained or 2) have a short development cycle for 2.4. Any of the two options has risks and advantages. -- José Abílio
