BibTex is a program that's used to organize your list of references. So you 
can have all the references for a particular topic in one .bib file and 
then pull out only those references that you require for your current 
document. Just makes things more efficient. It's quite easy to use.. take a

There are a few front-ends to BibTex which make it easier to create new 
entries in the bib file... e.g. tkbibtex, pybliographer..

BibTex usually comes with the LaTex software... so if you don't have it 
then you can update your LaTex software and get BibTex.
