Jonathan Chait is a Hillary Clinton propagandist but this article is a useful reminder of how unlikely it ever was for Trump to be a new Hitler or Mussolini. This is not a question of the "Deep State" defying him. It is instead a recognition that the American ruling class has ways of setting policy initiatives that are not so easily countermanded by an authoritarian figure like Trump.
