Greetings. This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 
Junly 22, 2013
 
Highlights:

AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN
LITTLE BLUE HERON
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON
EURASIAN WIGEON

WILSON’S PHALAROPE
STILT SAMDPIPER
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER
RED-HEADED WOODPECKER
ACADIAN FLYCATCHER


Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     7/23: The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN remains at Knox-Marsellus Marsh and was 
see as recently as today. An EURASIAN WIGEON was also seen at Knox-Marsellus. 
The 2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen again on Mays Point Road. At VanDyne 
Spoor Road the LITTLE BLUE HERON was again seen comong to roost with at least 
45 GREAT EGRETS. Unfortunately this was the last day it was reported.
     7/25: At Knox-Marsellus Marsh STILT SANDPIPERWHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and 
LEAST BITTERN were found along with the now resident AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN.
     7/27: SANDERLING, RUDY TURNSTONE and a possible LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER were 
found at Knox-Marsellus.


Onondaga County
------------

     7/24: An adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON was seen on the creekwalk near 
Carousel Center in Syracuse.
     7/26: The adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was joined by three juvenile 
birds on the creekwalk. An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER continues in Whiskey Hollow near 
Baldwinsville.


Oneida County
------------

7/28: 3 SEMI-PALMATD PLOVERS, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER and 29 SANDERLING were found at 
Sylvan Beach.


Madison County
------------

     7/29: A RUDDY TURNSTONE, GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY 
SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER and SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER were all found in a flooded 
field on Rt. 20just east of the village of Madison.
