Greetings. This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 
December 02, 2013

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     12/6: 4 SNOWY OWLS were seen on the south side of Rt. 31 opposite the 
potato building. also seen were 1 ROSS’S GOOSE and 4 SANDHILL CRANES.
     12/7: The 4 SNOWY OWLS were again seen at the previously mentioned Area in 
the mucklands. Also seen were a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, an ICELAND GULL and 
20+ SANDHILL CRANES. Yet another SNOWY OWL was found on VanDyne Spoor Road.
     12/8: 3 of the SNOWY OWLS were refound at the Rt. 31 location opposite the 
potato building.


Extralimital
------------

     12/3: This was the last sighting of the RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD on Mynderse 
Street  in Seneca Falls.


Onondaga County
------------

     SNOWY OWLS continue their presence at Hancock Airport. Anywhere from three 
to seven have been reported daily.
     12/6: A SAW-WHET OWL has returned to it’s area at Beaver Lake Nature 
Center on the Bog Trail. It was relocated on the 7th. but has not been found 
since.
     12/7: ABRANT was seen along the Creekwalk on Onondaga Creek near Carousel 
Center in Syracuse.
     12/8: A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen hunting at the intersection of Rt. 31 
and 57 in the town of Clay. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Three Rivers WMA 
north of Baldwinsville. A late HERMIT THRUSH was again seen along the Creekwalk


Oneida County
------------

     12/5: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Dunbar Road near Camden.
     12/7: A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen on Oneida Lake at South Bay.


Oswego County
------------

     12/8: A late GRAY CATBIRD and a CACKLING GOOSE were seen at Mexico Point 
State Park. Three SNOWY OWLS were seen on the break walls at Oswego Harbor.


Herkimer County
-------------

     A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was found on Peck Road north of Little Falls.


Madison County
------------

     12/3: A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at the Madison County Landfill.
     12/8: an ICELAND GULL was seen at the Sav-alot gas station in Canastota.
