I wanted to add a word of caution with regard to the Surface Display Dock.

I purchased the Surface Display Dock in the hopes of running 2 x 2560x1440
monitors via the two mini display ports in the dock. Something the device
should well be able to do. I am using a Surface Pro 4 with the display dock and
have applied all the latest firmware and driver updates I can find. I am using
two mini-DP to full size DP cables so no adapters.

At the moment I am struggling to get reliable connection to just ONE of my BENQ
BL2420PT monitors. Given up on two for now. After trying every possible
solution I can think of and find online, this is what I end up doing just to
get it displaying on one of the external monitors about 90% of the time.

1. Unplug the power from the display dock. (I also remove the connection
from the Surface but I'm not sure I need to)

2. Wait for 45-60seconds.

3. Plug the power cables back into the dock and connect the dock to the SP4

4. Turn the SP4 on.

This is the ONLY way I can get the device to display on my external monitor and
even then it's only 90% of the time. I've also changed the power settings to
ensure the SP4 doesn't go into sleep mode as it never comes back with the
external display working.

I have also used the same Display Dock and SP4 in another office using a DELL
monitor at 1920x1080 and it seems to work far more reliably. Can't easily
confirm if the issue is more related to the BENQ monitor or the Display Dock at
this time.

It really shouldn't be too much to expect these things just work surely.

Cheers

Anthony

Just as a heads up for those with older monitors that for whatever reason have
DVI but not HDMI or DisplayPort. For some insane reason the new MS Surface Dock
doesn't support DVI (and yes I know you need an adapter). Ironically the
Surface Book itself doesn't have an issue with DVI monitors (again using a mini
DisplayPort to DVI converter).

Unfortunately I don't have the budget for a new monitor.

I don't think a MST Hub will work with my current monitor resolutions.

This way I can run

* The surface pro 4 display

* Two 1920x1200 monitors off the docking station

* 2560x1440 monitor from the USB3 external video card.

I am still trying to find out exactly what the surface pro 4 supports with the
docking station. Their tech specs on their website don't really give too much
information.

DisplayPost ports support multiple streams, so you can either use an MST hub to
split the stream -or- you can just buy a monitor that supports daisychaining
(DP-in and DP-out), and you can daisychain your monitors together. The Intel HD
GPUs support 4 streams (one is for the internal display, so 3 external monitors)

My understanding is that the Intel GPU in the SB can drive 2 x 4K external
monitors plus the on-board display. I'm surprised that the SP4 can only drive
3x external monitors at 1080i as there seems to be sufficient grunt and
bandwidth in the Intel HD chips to drive more.

Personally though, I'd just buy a 4k monitor. :) You get the same pixels as 4 x
1080i monitors, in a lot less space and no annoying bezels dividing up your
screen.

Hi Adrian

You can buy a MST Hub that can connect up to 4 monitors (1920 x 1080 max) on a
single display port.

Check out ALogic MST Hub for DisplayPort.

I bought one for SP3 and SP4, but I have now moved away from multiple monitors
and purchased a 40 inch UHD 4K monitor which is like have having 4 x Full HD
monitors.

Subject: Have Surface Pro 4 multi monitor Display issues been resolved?

Just wanted to see if there was an update on if the display issues have been
resolved on the surface pro 4.

I want to switch to a Surface Pro 4 to make travelling easier and replace my
large Dell Latitude E6530 laptop.

I currently use a dell dock which allows me to use the 3 external displays plus
the laptop display

1. 1920x1080 (laptop)

2. 1200x1920 (Dell U2412M)

3. 1200x1920 (Dell U2412M)

4. 2560x1440 (Asus PB278Q)

I am hoping that I can still have 4 displays with a surface pro 4 and the
docking station.
But don't think this is possible as there are only 2 mini display ports on the
dock.
