I've had no problem with perl2exe - using a vanilla 5.6.1.635, perl2exe can build one fine (in fact, the latest version of AmphetaDesk was built with 633 with no problems). The only time I can reliably start getting utf8 errors with perl2exe is when I upgrade to XML::Parser 2.34 using a third-party PPD.
