Well, it is a lot of money for me too, specially considering that the new 
18-135 
is also tempting me if it finally comes out good enough optically. However I 
have come to the conclusion that 'photo equipment' is also my hobby and I 
manage 
to justify concentrating my hobby investments every 2.5-3 years...(and I am 
very 
quiet about lenses lately).
So: late 2005 for *istDs, mid 2008 for K20D and it seems that sometime in 2011 
for the next one would make sense...

Ah, I remember that this very list talked some time ago about the upcoming 
incarnation of the mythical'camera to take to the grave'...and then the 
perfidious sensors came in and ruined it all...
