Perhaps the problem is unique to my use case then. Specifically, I have a RPI player feeding a pair of Meridian DSP speakers which accept a digital signal. The speakers cannot go beyond 24/96 but the RPI will output the full 24/192 stream when available. In this case the speakers don't play anything. However, I have a desktop system also fed by an RPI which has a DAC capable of playing the full stream so I would rather not limit it in the global settings.
