SOunds from the discussion like J could use a PRNG facility that has two
modus's
in the operadi:

Mode 0: replicates exactly based on a fixed seed that is available as a
static
outside the J invocation control sequence.

Mode 1: (Pseudo-)random initiation based on _whatever_ that _stuffs_ the
equivalent seed
  somewhere (for replicability).

That way, hidden when running, replicatable for test purposes.

To my knowledge, nothing under windows explicitly collects
entropy -- but I think using the low order bits from 6!:9'' as
seed for one of J's RNGs should suffice for most purposes.

gleck. not so.

but: if you are going to use mere salted encryption in the first paste (not
a typo):

   you deserve what you gleck.

However, given all the OTHER OpenWindowPains in most "secure OSes" (pun
intended)

... this is not the biggest open door to close ...

(For example, in this thread we are talking about salt for a
password -- not key generation.)

For cases where you need better, throwing in a bit of
slowly changing secret information might be a good
step. Or, you could do something like:
   9!:1(_2^31)+(2x^32)|(p:@((2^26)&|)@(6!:9)*x:@(6!:9))''

Note that under windows
   (6!:9-:6!:9)''
0
