Knuth's gb_flip and several other better RNGs are available in J: http://www.jsoftware.com/help/dictionary/d640.htm For example, gb_flip has a period of _1+2^55 (3.6e16) but the Mersenne Twister has a period of _1+2^19947 (4.32e6001).
