Apologies for the long delay but various bits of information have been 
floating past my nose lately and I thought that they were worth sharing.

I also feel that these are heavily off-topic but will be useful, 
hopefully, to someone:

Mine was brand new (A Plextor12/10/32A) and it did not work.  Emails to 
the manufacturer produced the info that I also needed ASPIINST.exe plus 
bus mastering and DMA access and it now works beautifully.  However:

Instead of going to Adaptec, I found that I could look for ASPIINST.exe 
and could download it from many places, avoids the aggro with Adaptec!

There is a .pdf manual for CDRWIN now, 2.5MB in size.  If anyone wants a 
copy please let me know privately and I will send it to you.  Also ZDNet 
said the software costs $69 but Golden Hawk says $49 so things are getting 
better.
