I had earlier succeeded on a second attempt using
install.packages(pkgs="rms", dependencies = c("Depends", "Imports",
"LinkingTo", "Suggests", "Enhances") ) ## i.e the kitchen sink approach
So with the goal of creating an error log, I just now trashed rms,
Design, rpart and Hmisc and tried using the Gui installer using a
faster connection (Ethernet this time vs. WiFi earlier) and got the
appropriate prompt installation of the missing items with "install
dependencies" checked.. So I am unable to reproduce the prior
problems. I now suspect it was a combination of slow connection and
impatience. Apologies.

I'm still having difficulty w/ some of the help features.
Specifically on a fresh start of the R GUI selecting "R Help"
from the
Help menu opens up a blank help window and gives the following at

Also, the "magnifying glass" help files on both the R Console and
the
R Help windows do not open the desired help pages, they only bring
focus to the help window.

I installed the earlier RC r50178 and attempted to install package
rms with dependencies to the "System Level" using the GUI Package
Installer from CRAN. 10 minutes later I am still looking at a
spinning rainbow ball. The Stop icon on the Console window is
greyed out and not responding. <esc> has no effect.
Can you send me the trace, please?
So, now that I have an R system that won't do an useful work for
me, is there an exit set of keystrokes and what is the proper way
to gracefully retreat to 2.9.2?
There is no change I'm aware of since 2.9.2 -- if R is not coming
back to the GUI due to some internet issues the behavior is the same
-- you can't abort it unless you kill it (stop/<Esc> only affects R
commands, but installation is done externally so it doesn't react to
it).

Thanks for making R on the mac a pleasant experience.
I echo the thanks despite this glitch, since my overall experience
is very positive with the Mac version and I could not get half as
much useful work done on alternate systems.
