Good catch! And good fix, that absolutely makes sense.
Apropos of that bug, let me toss this out to the whole team: that's
another bug that wouldn't have happened with garbage collection. I know
there were objections that we're dealing with mixed memory and (my own
objection) adding gc to C++ is not as simple as adding it to C. But IMO
garbage collection still has a lot to offer us.
