Yes.  Currently you get two sets of notes-and-rests in the same place, and
sometimes it's not clear which set you are affecting.  It's worse if they
disagree about key or clef.

Yes, that's exactly the vision.

That occured to me.  Part of what I'm trying to find out is whether
keeping both ways would be worth the complexity.  (To me it's not, but I
want to find out how others feel about it)
