My understanding of Scratchbox2 is that it's an attempt to provide the same functionality as Scratchbox, but without the need for the chrooted environment. (Unfortunately, I happen to want the segregation of the chrooted environment -- I say "unfortunately" because there is one aspect of Scratchbox2 I'd very much like to have, which is that there's no limit on how many targets you can build for at one time.) I don't believe Scratchbox2 is destined to replace Scratchbox.

SB2 does support the "tool distro" concept which would allow you to use a fixed set of utilities to build your target stuff, maemo sdk+ does this. Lauri Aarnio is currently working on a SB1 compatibility mode for SB2, although I don't entirely believe it makes sense. But that's not my call to make ;)

I would like to hear what requirements you have that SB2 would need to meet?
