 Jaws9?

 Hi listers,

I'm using jaws 9 and windows vista. I just like to know if jaws video
intercept manager is no longer available in jaws 9. I was browsing on
jaws utilities sub menu when I noticed that the video intercept manager
 is
unavailable. I was checking jaws configurations because I was
experiencing some erros with jaws when I noticed it.

Please check your jaws installation and let me know.

 Thank you very much.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and a Pac Mate function

2008-07-11 Thread Betsy Whitney
Aloha Listers,
I am running XP Home, JAWS 9.0.2152 and am using a 40 cell Pac Mate display.

I wish to make my Pac Mate wizwheels perform like the thumbkeys on my
BrailleNote. I want to be able to move up or down through documents
when my braille display is connected to my PC and have both a braille
display and have JAWS speak, just as if I were using the arrow keys
on my PC keyboard.

When I used the BrailleNote, I was able to go into Key Manager and
set the thumbkeys to Say Next Line and to Say Previous Line. I
subscribed to the Pac Mate Users List and also talked with Tech
Support at FS, but it seems that the
wizwheels are only set to work the braille interface. I want to keep
my hands on the braille display while working. When I am transcribing
tables or XL files, it is most helpful to have JAWS speaking along
with the braille display as I work.

It was suggested to me that if this is to work, I need to find
someone who could write a script for it.

Do you think this is possible? I know three braille transcribers who
would dearly love to have this ability. I also know a couple who
would like to buy the Pac Mate, but because they can't have this
display/speech function, they won't buy the product.

Thank you for any assistance anyone can provide. I just have no idea
who to contact.
Betsy

[JAWS-Users] Word and XL 2007

2008-07-11 Thread Maria Campbell
I'm successfully using Word and XL 2003 with JAWS 9 at home.
However, at work they're about to switch to Word and XL 2007. Will I
experience a great deal of difference using JAWS 8?
Thanks in advance for any heads up information.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Word and XL 2007

2008-07-11 Thread Chris
Hi, the latest JAWS 8 began to support the Office 2007 ribbon interface, which
is used throughout all Microsoft Office 2007 applications. I don't have 2007,
however I heard it at a demonstration last year. Sorry I can't be of any
sufficient help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and a Pac Mate function

Hi,

Welcome to the list! I don't use a pac mate though, I use a brailleNote
MPower.

Thanks.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and a Pac Mate function

 Aloha Listers,
I am running XP Home, JAWS 9.0.2152 and am using a 40 cell Pac Mate
 display.

 Betsy

Re: [JAWS-Users] Additional info JAWS and a Pac Mate function

2008-07-11 Thread Betsy Whitney
I have managed to get the braille display and JAWS to speak at the
same time if I press down on my wizwheels. I went to the key manager
and set the Say Next Line to the right wizwheel and the Say Previous
Line to the left wizwheel. So, by pressing down on the wheels to get
what I wish but I still want to be able to just roll the wheel
without pressing down. I am imagining a chronic case of carpal tunnel
after awhile with this method.

That didn't quite make since? Also ther was a virus going around December
 26

 narrator.

 There's no virus.
I tried to put in headphones in the microphone part, and when I did
 audacity
it stopped working when it loaded, so it is something I have done.. it's
 not
 a virus. Good thought though.

 Hi,

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but can you get anything else out
 the
speakers? If jaws or narrator won't work, you may have a virus from a
 few

 Christy,
On my Dell laptop Insert plus F11 does open the system tray andV does
bring me to some volume options, but without sighted help it would be
hard to figure out the next steps, so I echo the advice to seek
 sighted
 help.
Also, on my lap top there are buttons for changing volume and one of
those mutes the sound. Perhaps that is what happened to you. If
 someone
can show you the volume buttons, if you have them, you may have some
 valuable information for the future.
 Blessings,
 Tom

Re: [JAWS-Users] sigh f11 didn't work

2008-07-11 Thread Betsy Whitney
I'm sure nobody else does this, but it works for me.
Insert f11 didn't work for me either.

Go to your desktop and tab to your Start button. press the spacebar

Right arrow across the system tray icons.
When you get to volume, press spacebar.
You will be on a scroll bar and you can use your up and down arrows
to raise or lower the volume. If you tab once from that scroll bar,
you should be on the Mute button. You can then choose to check or uncheck it.
HTH.

I think that SAP is a popular accounting software.

[JAWS-Users] repairing JAWS 9

2008-07-11 Thread Chuck Pettke
Hello list, I am attempting to run a repair of JAWS 9. I begin the process by
executing J9.0.2152_ILM.exe file which I have downloaded from the web site. I
am presented with the setup package dialog in which I can choose Next or
cancel. I choose next and am told Please wait while your system is
configured for JAWS. I here the clicks as the package is extracted and then
the Windows Installer program window comes up and I receive the following
message: Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of
this version cannot continue.. I am presented with an OK button and when I
hit enter on this the dialog goes away and I am back at the desktop. At no time
am I presented with the installation option to repair jaws. Any ideas on how
to resolve this?

That'd be ausum. I'd also suggest a tutorial on adding the registry hacks.

Would anybody be interested in a brief tutorial regarding disk space so
far as changing the size of your recycle bin and dumping some old files
that you don't need any longer? Maybe something else if I figure out what
and where to throw it in.

Oh I hesitate to add registry hacks to an audio tutorial, don't want people
to turn their respective computers in to paper waits.I suppose if such a
thing crossed my mind I might just do it though.

[JAWS-Users] Remote controling computers

I am wondering...
Is there a program where a blind person could remote into someone else's

Help would be greately appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] repairing JAWS 9

2008-07-11 Thread Betsy Whitney
Aloha Chuck,
I recently had this exact problem when trying to install another
program. Here's what I did to make it work.

It's my understanding that there could be two possible things that
could be causing the installer to stop:

1. A fragment of a previous attempt to install JAWS could be
interfering with subsequent attempts to install JAWS. In effect, you
can't go forwards
and can't go backwards. First I checked to see how many instances of
JAWS 9.0 were showing in Add/Remove Programs. If you only see it
there once, the first thing I tried was to restart my computer, then
download and run the installer for JAWS again.

If that does not clear the issue, the next step is to try to download
and run the Installer Cleanup Tool from Microsoft. Follow this link
for the tool
and the instructions for installing and using it:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

When you run the tool, check if JAWS 9.0 is listed among the
installers. If it is, remove it and try running the JAWS installer
again. If it is NOT
listed or that doesn't work, see below.

2. If removing JAWS 9.0 does not resolve the problem or if JAWS 9.0
is not listed, then the issue is caused by something on your computer
or in Windows that is interfering with your ability to run programs
that use the microsoft installer. and you will need to get that fixed
before you will be able to install JAWS again. It's very important
that you don't remove the version of JAWS that you are trying to fix
completely from your system because you probably won't be able to
install it again until the problem is solved.
I hope this makes sense.

Thank you.

 Hi, Larry,
I have found Firefox a lot less memory-heavy than IE., especially the
later
versions like IE 7. In other words, Firefox seems to require a lot fewer
system resources in order to run at a fairly fast speed. There are also
some
add-ins, such as Add Blocker and an accessibility plug-in, for Firefox
that
make it more blind-friendly. There is a JAWS help section on Firefox, and
in general, the accessibility commands JAWS uses for IE work in Firefox.
I
found the change-over very smooth and almost seamless. I changed to
Firefox
when I updated to IE 7, and so I'm still not used to tabbed browsing in
 either program. :)

It all comes down to personal preference, however.

 Hth,
 Erin

  Hi folks,

Lately I have been reading a lot about Mozilla FireFox. I am curious,
is
there any really compelling reason for a blind person to jump ship from
  MSIE7?
I am using jaws 8.latest and windows-XP Pro. I am not interested in
  changing
applications such as my E-mail client MS-Outlook-XP or anything else
for
that matter. I am interested in features and benefits, learning curve
and
  simplicity of changeover.
