[kshisen] [Bug 473985] Leaderboard takes only seconds into account to rank times.

2023-08-31 Thread Frederik Schwarzer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473985

The Score decides the Rank, not the time. I think in the screen shot it is a
coincidence that the seconds are ascending. It seems that the scoring changed
so that the time is not equivalent with the score between older and new wins.
... Not sure what is causing this but I can see it on my system as well.

Not sure how to proceed. Very limited time right now. :(

[Powerdevil] [Bug 473555] New: Monitor brightness unresponsive when USB drive connected

2023-08-20 Thread Frederik Schwarzer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473555

Bug ID: 473555
Summary: Monitor brightness unresponsive when USB drive
connected
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Powerdevil
   Version: 5.27.7
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: schwar...@kde.org
CC: m...@ratijas.tk, natalie_clar...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When I connect a USB drive to my laptop, the screen brightness setting via the
Fn keys becomes unresponsive until the USB drive is detected and ready to use
(meaning: the notification with the mount options is shown).
For some reason this is taking around 10 seconds for some of my USB drives.
Then I change the screen brightness settings a lot during that time, all those
changes are then "replayed" when the system is responsive again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. connect USB drive (and hope it takes some time to be ready)
2. in the meantime, change the screen brightness using the Fn keys
3. wonder

OBSERVED RESULT
The screen brightness does not change (or changes later)

EXPECTED RESULT
Screen brightness should be responsive regardless of any other Plasma thing
waiting for something.

I cannot reproduce this with either master or v23.04.2 with the same versions
of Qt and KF and kernel 6.3.11.

After a quick tired glance at the valgrind output, I am wondering:
- Why is xlifftextedit.cpp used when doing PO file stuff?
- Is "Address 0x0 is not stack'd, malloc'd or (recently) free'd" a null pointer
deref? At address 0x0?

Will take a closer look the next few days if noone else steps up.

[kshisen] [Bug 471421] RFE: please provide solution to games

2023-06-26 Thread Frederik Schwarzer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471421

OK, thanks for testing.

Yes, having game IDs would be nice. The current way to generate games does not
make this easy, however.

I will give this a go and check if I can reproduce the issue.
If the game is built from source with DEBUG enabled, the "H" key not only shows
a hint but removes the tiles. That way it is possible to quickly see if a game
is solvable. ... But well, the algorithm is quite crude and if the game is not
able to solve the game, there might still be ways to fix it. ... So it it not
100%.

2023-06-25 Thread Frederik Schwarzer

The algorithm for creating a solvable board is pretty basic.
It creates a shuffled board and then tries to actually solve it. Only if it
succeeds, the board is used.

If you think you found an unsolvable board, can you please use the Undo action
until the board is in its initial state and then use Hint and remove the tiles
that are shown repeatedly. That way, the game should be solvable. If it is not,
there is a bug.

[lokalize] [Bug 450173] Crash when opening the project's find window several times

2023-04-29 Thread Frederik Schwarzer

Hi,

as you might have noticed, Lokalize is rather unmaintained at the moment.

However, out of curiosity I tried this today about 30-40 times and I did not
get a crash.
Do you still see this in a current version? If so, does the crash manager come
up?

Since this is still open, I comment here instead of opening a new report.

I just experienced this. When Konvi shows the notification in systray, I get
20% cpu load for the kwin process.
The only difference I see to this report is that my notification icon animates
with insane speed.

I read about an issue like that with nvidia GPUs but I have a built-in Intel
thingy.
I also read about this being a problem when running the monitor on high refresh
rates. Mine however runs at 60Hz.

It's a bit hard to tell for me what the cause is but Konvi is the only
application showing that behaviour. Copy spinners and loading icons as
described in some other reports are fine here.

Thanks for taking the time to report this.

However, I suspect the problem somewhere else. AFAIR the search modules are
supposed to use both the original keywords and the translated ones. So "kinfo"
should find KInfoCenter even is some language translated is to "abc". I am
currently unable to find the source of that information.

I will have a closer look in a few days.

Same here (or rather "similar here").

I set up my local Nextcloud RasPi a few weeks ago and for a few days now, I get
that dialog at every KDE startup.

The dialog does not say, where it comes from. It just states its message. No
hint on where to go to check the address/username. Nothing. Just the message,
that I might be scammed and whether or not I want to continue.

Futhermore, I do not have Online Services stuff in systemsettings or something
configured in dolphin.

So I had to grep my home folder for Nextcloud keywords and found some Akonadi
files (~/.config/akonadi_davgroupware_resource_5rc) which do not contain any
user name in the URL (https://192.168.178.251/remote.php/dav). They do have my
user name in the config file though. But how would they connect to my Nextcloud
instance otherwise?

I thought you do not have the German string?

So you both have the "Window Decorations" translation missing in the GUI but it
is there in the PO file on your systems. Not sure what to do about it to be
honest. I am not on Arch and I see the translation.

> By the way I checked all Kde apps in relation to translations. They are all
> well translated with the exception of "Okular",nearly all terms presented in
> English.

This file is (almost completely) translated. Please check your local PO file if
the strings, you see in English are translated in the PO file. If so, this is
not an issue, we as translators can fix.

> Don't forget the other terms to be translated mentioned in "Additional
> Comments" when I reported the "bug",not only "Window Decoration(s)".

I checked several of those strings. All translated here. They are in different
PO files though so I wanted to confirm one string as translated instead of
asking you to check and upload several files.

> I discovered in Dolphin the file "kcm_kwindecoration/metadata.desktop".I
> opened it with the editor and in line 25 I found the correct German
> translation of "Window Decoration(s)": Name [de]=Fensterdekoration. So why is

Entries in .desktop files are extracted into PO files and translated there.
Then the translations are merged back into the .desktop file. That part seems
to work, hence you can see the translation in the .desktop file. Why these are
not shown for you, is beyond me.

Could be an Arch issue. ... Could be a configuration issue limited to your
machine. ... Not sure. But as far as I can see, it's not an issue with the
German translation.

Maybe try asking around in some Arch forum. They might know more.

Hi,

from what I can see in the translation files, the strings you see untranslated
are translated here.
E.g.
"Window Decoration" - translated in the PO file
"Desktop Effects" - translated in the PO file
"Screen Edges" - translated in the PO file
"Virtual Desktops" - translated in several PO files

I am using an older version of everything so I cannot check it in the UI but I
suspect a different problem than missing translations.

> I think you should one and for all find a solution to translate the whole
> Desktop

Translation (as most things) is an ongoing process. There is no "once and for
all" solution. There are over 20 Strings in the GUI and the websites
(documentation comes extra) and since applications are evolving, new strings
are added or existing strings are changed every day. The German translation has
over 4 untranslated strings in the GUI and Websites. So technically,
missing translations are not a bug but a lack of contributions. ... Of course
we try to have "the desktop" and core applications translated but even that is
not always possible. No one in the German translation (probably in any
translation) is paid for it. It is just a leisure time hobby if life permits
it.

Anyway, I digress. So maybe Arch is breaking translations or maybe KDE's
release scripts are broken.
Could you find a file named kcm_kwindecoration.mo in some path containing /de/
on your system and attach it to this report?

Thanks.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to report issues you see. :)

I did not have time yet to look into these but from what I see the file seems
quite broken ... but just to make sure. Are you looking at the PO file itself?
If so, are the strings you mention marked "fuzzy"? In that case it is alright.
If the PO system sees a new or changed msgid, it will look for msgstrs from
similar msgids and fill them in. Then a translation will have to check that
string, modify it so it matches and then remove the "fuzzy" mark. Only then
will the translation find its way into the application.

Feel free to drop by on our mailing list for further questions.
https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-i18n-de

I will have a closer look at the issues you opened soon.

[i18n] [Bug 453143] Translation of update process in German confusing

2022-05-06 Thread Frederik Schwarzer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453143

If I see this correctly, "Refresh" has been "Check for Updates" before but was
changed.
Before:
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/discover/-/blob/Plasma/5.19/libdiscover/resources/ResourcesModel.cpp#L103
After:
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/discover/-/blob/master/libdiscover/resources/ResourcesModel.cpp#L100

So, "Aktualisieren" would be a perfectly fine translation for the overly
generic term used in the application now. Not sure why it was decided that
"Refresh" would be better than "Check for Updates" but well ...

Since "Aktualisieren" is equally bad, I will change it as suggested to "Auf
Aktualisierungen prüfen".

I agree, these two buttons are weird next to each other. I will probably use
the "Auf Aktualisierungen prüfen" for the Refresh button.

What about "Apply Updates"? Is that a suggestion for the original string? Here
the button is labeled "Update all". For the German translation, I would like to
keep the "Alle aktualisieren" for "Update all" to not go too far from the
original and to not have two quite long strings there extending the button
layout.

Translating "Computer" as "Rechner" was a decision we made as a team once. It

Can you maybe check what happens when you change to a different cursor theme?

[filelight] [Bug 407177] Folder size differs from "du -h"

2021-05-16 Thread Frederik Schwarzer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407177

Hi,

I suspect it has something to do with how the boot2qt folder is arranged. Maybe
symlinks or hardlinks ... or maybe loads of small files or so.

I cannot see it on "normal folders" but I am also not in a position to build a
boot2qt image anymore for three reasons.
1. I run Arch now which is not a supported Linux distro for boot2qt (and it
fails to build)
2. my current computer has an N5000 CPU with which a boot2qt build will
probably run two weeks
3. that computer also only has 250G hard disk space, so I am quite low on free
space with my normal system already

So if you happen to sit on a Debian/Ubuntu box with a big CPU and some 100G
free hard disk space, you could try a boot2qt build and check that folder?

These instructions should still work:
$> git clone git://code.qt.io/yocto/meta-boot2qt.git
$> cd meta-boot2qt

$> git checkout v5.15.4-lts
$> ./b2qt-init-build-env init --device raspberrypi3

$> export MACHINE=raspberrypi3
$> source setup-environment.sh

$> bitbake -s
$> bitbake b2qt-embedded-qt5-image
$> bitbake meta-toolchain-b2qt-embedded-qt5-sdk

The last two commands will take their time.

Sorry that I cannot be of more help here.

I agree that "recommendation" in the context of package management is
misleading here, since package manager use this term to give you packages that
work together with the package you are trying to install.

Not sure about a proper translation here though. Maybe we can get some more
opinions?

Also is might be good to know what "featured" apps are. Is this a random
collection of apps? Or is it a curated list that changed regularly?

sollte.

Thanks for the report.

This is not a translation issue.

This could be shortened to "do something" but then it would not be a
translation of the original text anymore.

The dialog layout should be fixed so that the length of the string does not
"break" it this way. Maybe make it a multi-line text?

Other languages might be even longer so making this an issue of one language
does not fix anything.

I just tried that on Arch Linux with ...
- KWrite Version 20.08.1
- KDE Frameworks 5.73.0
- Qt 5.15.0 (kompiliert gegen 5.15.0)
... and it worked correctly from the first try.

Is this still reproducible for you?
