It is actually the send button. I enabled the standard grey flat button
in chatwindow.tcl and increased the -width argument (but I mean REALLY
increase it, had to set it to 60) and it is stable! I just get a funny
huge button that turns normal again when I hover it :) but at least, no

I will keep experimenting, but since I am hacking an unknown code in an

My bet is on the SIREN-16 codec (G.722.1), which is used for the audio
stream in video conversations (new in 7.0), as well as pure voice
conversations. It can also be used for the old video conferences that
are RTP-based if agreed upon (I think it's the client's first priority
if available). Now, there are no open source implementations of this
codec AFAIK, but the alternative route I guess is to use wineloader
and use the DLL bundled with MSN Messenger = 7.0, dubbed MSN
Messenger Audio Codec, which gets installed to
 c:\windows\system32\sirenacm.dll.

That can be a solution for Windows ... but what about Linux and MacOS X ?
It seems that mplayer support the codec ... we can maybe extract the

mplayer's codecs are windows .dll files that mplayer is able to read... if
the codec is available for windows, and linux (mplayer), it means it's a
standard codec available for download somewhere on the net (codec
community packs for example), which means we could find a version of that
codec for each platform and ship it with amsn.

In addition why Tk_CreatePhotoImageFormat() calls XGetImage ???
The trouble seems to come from ImgPhotoDisplay !!
Well but how can I fix that ??? Using XGetGeometry ?? But I will break the
 compatibility with windows...
In addition I took a look at the CVS of Tk :
There is only 1 change between 8.4.9 and 8.4.10 and nothing about our
bug... And the 8.4.11 version is the same as the 8.4.10 one... Very
strange... Anyway I will try to see...

can you please look into that ?
An idea would also be to look at the diff in the

applied for 8.4.11.. that may be a hassle though..

no,
if you don't restart amsn when changing the language, you will probably
get a Tk error in the next 5 minutes..
if you don't restart amsn after a skin change, you'll only have a white
border instead of a green one or something like that.. nothing major...
changing the language should have a more 'agressive' notification than
just a bold label in a window...

Yes, but nevertheless I think that's better than nothing, and later on
64-bit DLLs will for sure come along. Another thing is that there's no
way video conversations (new in MSN7 as I mentioned) can be supported
without doing it this way, as WMV9 (WMV3) hasn't yet been fully
reverse-engineered; and that's the decoder -- no-one is working on
reverse-engineering the encoder, which is needed because the two-way
nature of this protocol (as opposed to webcam). Siren is another
obstacle as well, I don't know of anyone working on REing it, so in
short I think the only solution to be able to keep up is to go for a
wineloader-approach, that way at least those features can be supported
on x86 32-bit (and probably 64-bit as well in a while). Maybe there's
some way to achieve the same on Mac as well, but that'll be a lot
trickier I suspect.
And having this temporary solution, if someone with way too much
sparetime should feel like doing it, the Siren-codec could be RE'd.
That way voice clips and voice conversations could become 100%
platform-independent after a while. I suspect WMV will take longer
though, due to no work being put into RE'ing the encoder.

That's the ONLY thing you change?

The code below doesn't work either :(

 Try that:
 label $sendbutton -image  [::skin::loadPixmap

 -activebackground [::skin::getKey
 sendbuttonbg] -activeforeground
 black -text [trans send] \
-font sboldf -highlightthickness 0 -pady 0
-padx 0 -relief flat -compound center
   bind $sendbutton Button1 ::amsn::MessageSend $w

This is VERY VERY VERY similar to a normal button in the chatwindow, same
picture, same command(label), don't tell me it crashed or I won't beleive you.

Re: Located it! : [Amsn-devel] X_GetImage crashes

2005-12-02 Thread Youness Alaoui
Yes, the problem is in the width/heigh of the button, as well as in its
alpha components...
What happens is that when you have complex Alpha, Tk has to ask X to give
it the drawable image behind the pixmap to write in order to blend it
correctly.. so it calls XGetImage...

problem is that we get a BadMatch error, from Xlib docs :
If the drawable is a pixmap, the given rectangle must be wholly contained
within the pixmap, or a BadMatch error results.
This means that we have a pixmap and we request give me the image at this
rectangle's coordinates, specifying X, Y, width and height..
problem is that X and Y might be 0 AND, the width and height might be
bigger than the width/heigh of the background...
I think it's because the button code from Tk, when it's a Tk_Width and
Tk_Height, returns the width and height of the parent window, so we ask
for a huge width and height, (and negative X/Y) which gets outside of the
border of the drawable background image.. so X returns a BadMatch error in
order to say hey, you're outside of the border...

Now, the solution ...
HEY, Vivia said that it worked!!! wouhou, I fixed it :D
I'm going to commit it soon :)
let me clean the code and comment the fix, then I'll commit.

the solution was to call XGetGeometry, get the visible width and heigh of
the drawable BEFORE calling the XGetImage, and make sure the x/y are = 0
and width/height are 1 and the real width/height returned by
XGetGeometry...

Thanks to all who helped.

Re: [Amsn-devel] Something else?!

You're sure ?
I think we should remove them from CVS because it's not maintained.. if
someone wants to maintain them, we'll get them back from CVS's Attic and
he can work on them... in the meantime, it can be removed... it's better
like this, makes cvs cleaner...

in any case, I suggest we leave the decision to the language maintainer.

 Yes, I sent it.
All languages were on the list, including the ones that are
 outdated and not
 maintained.
None have been removed yet. Based on earlier discussion about it,
 I'd say:
remove any language with less than 80% of the keys translated

I also agree... keep 0.95-compatible skins in the webpage and add the end
of the page, add something like :

Old skins :
Skins for aMSN 0.94

with the skins for amsn 0.94 clickable to go to a page with those
skins.. once 0.96 is out, we'll have the same, add a skins for aMSN 0.95
added there...

maybe add a notice skins for 0.94 are incompatible with amsn 0.95...
anyways, docs guys should know better than me how to put up that notice...

What happens is that when you have complex Alpha, Tk has to ask X to
give

it the drawable image behind the pixmap to write in order to blend it
correctly.. so it calls XGetImage...
problem is that we get a BadMatch error, from Xlib docs :
If the drawable is a pixmap, the given rectangle must be wholly
contained

within the pixmap, or a BadMatch error results.
This means that we have a pixmap and we request give me the image at
this

rectangle's coordinates, specifying X, Y, width and height..
problem is that X and Y might be 0 AND, the width and height might
be

bigger than the width/heigh of the background...
I think it's because the button code from Tk, when it's a Tk_Width and
Tk_Height, returns the width and height of the parent window, so we
ask
for a huge width and height, (and negative X/Y) which gets outside of
the
border of the drawable background image.. so X returns a BadMatch
error in

order to say hey, you're outside of the border...
Now, the solution ...
HEY, Vivia said that it worked!!! wouhou, I fixed it :D
I'm going to commit it soon :)
let me clean the code and comment the fix, then I'll commit.

the solution was to call XGetGeometry, get the visible width and
heigh of
the drawable BEFORE calling the XGetImage, and make sure the x/y are
= 0

and width/height are 1 and the real width/height returned by
XGetGeometry...
Thanks to all who helped.

All languages were on the list, including the ones that are
  outdated and not
  maintained.
None have been removed yet. Based on earlier discussion about it,
  I'd say:
remove any language with less than 80% of the keys translated
  (i.e. 153
  missing keys or more).

[Amsn-devel] current developers page

2005-12-02 Thread Lee Olson
On the new website, I have included a current developers page. Shall
we continue to include these names, or should we move them somewhere
else? credits?

aMSN was started by:

Didimo Emilio Grimaldo T. (retired dev)
Dave Mifsud (original author)

people who have helped along the way:

Agusti Dosaiguas (dev)
Lars E (php coder for retired website)
Agusti Dosaiguas (dev)
Galder (dev)
Gaz Iggi (dev)
Mugunth (dev)

I think it's ok to keep the aMSN was started by listing, but the
people who have helped along the way could probably be moved into
the credits.

This way we will have aMSN was started by and Current Developers
listings on the new page.

~Lee

the code I wrote was someone's patch sent on the site Phil found, and

You also found out that it happened only after oct 17th fixes.

In my Gentoo box, the Siren codec is in the file
/usr/lib/win32/vivog723.acm: PE executable for MS Windows (DLL) (GUI)
Intel 80386 32-bit

So effectively it won't work on a 64bits Linux ... but in the same time,
including a nonfree codec with aMSN is not really a good idea I think.

The first side effet I think about is that the debian package of aMSN
won't contain it because the Debian team really takes care of this kind
of thing.

What about converting the sounds received with mencoder ?
mencoder sound -oac mp3lame ... for example, or ogg to be really free !

Obviously, another problem is the necessity to have mencoder ... maybe
lame can handle it :S

Can I have the audio file too to do some tests ?

reverse-engineered; and that's the decoder -- no-one is working on
reverse-engineering the encoder, which is needed because the two-way

obstacle as well, I don't know of anyone working on REing it, so in
short I think the only solution to be able to keep up is to go for a
wineloader-approach, that way at least those features can be supported
on x86 32-bit (and probably 64-bit as well in a while).

If this codec is only used by the MS Dll in the mplayer, then it won't work on

Re: [Amsn-devel] Something else?!

2005-12-02 Thread Youness Alaoui

Hi,
I just commited a 'fix' to the commonly happening bug of the 'invalid
command name ::MSN::SB...
I noticed they come from everywhere in the code, but the last two procs in
the stack trace are cmsn_reconnect and chatTo.

I checked, msn_reconnect is call only from chatTo.
chatTo either creates an SB, or makes sure the SB is still in a connected
state by calling cmsn_reconnect.
to use an old SB instead of creating a new one, it calls SBFor, which
itself does a if {catch [$sb cget -stat]} (the call that causes the
'invalid command' and thus makes sure that the SB command still exists...
problem is that it seems from the SBFor that checks for it to the
cmsn_reconnect, there is a race condition and the SB gets deleted at the
same time.

What I did to fix it is a
if { $sb == 0 || [catch {cmsn_reconnect $sb }] } {
createNewSB

...
cmsn_reconnect $sb
}

which means if there was no SB, it will enter the if and create a new one,
if there was an SB, it will call the cmsn_reconnect proc, if it failed to
reconnect it, it will enter the if, and create a new SB again and recall
cmsn_reconnect...

I hope it fixes the bug, I just want some of you to massively test playing
with chatwindows/SBs to make sure I didn't break anything.. the logic
seems right, I need someone to test the logic though...

Thanks,
KaKaRoTo

section in the PHPNuke.

Also the Skin dialog is a bit bigger than required. There is an empty
space
under the OK button the size of the button itself. Does anyone else
have it?

I tried to add a Restart aMSN for new skins label somewhere, but I am
not
sure where. Any suggestions? I was thinking having it in the title
beside
Please select the skin you would like to use. Maybe have it appear
after

the user selects a new skin.

Finally for post 0.95, I think we should make the skin and plugin
dialog look
about the same. This isn't very hard as it requires mainly moving a
punch of

pack commands around. I'll add it to wiki.

Jerome, you said you wanted to review all previous mails on the subject
and see what's missing before the 0.95 release, did you do it ? if yes,
can we get a summary of it ? Iremember you forwarded some emails saying
has it been done?, I'll look into that myself (too busy with the job
for

today, maybe tonight)
but if you ALREADY have a list, it would be nice to share it.

Thanks,
KaKaRoTo

who has 64 bits.. who can answer him ?

What I did was just install the tls package from the gentoo portage.
You

 might
want to search for tls in the Mandriva install thing.

well, the problem is that most people on the forums want to compile it
and
it doesn't work.. I don't know if that's our problem, but I just wanted
to
point out that we may need to add binary support for 64bits
architectures.

AND, do you think we should add a tls 1.5 download with the tls
 auto-installer and tls for 64bits ?

We could add tls as a dependency (an optional one?) to the RPM if it
gets

installed through some automatic thing like apt or yum. I can also
 provide
the 64bit binaries if we want an option for autoinstalled. Also do you
 want
to update the rest of architectures to 1.5?

yep, I'd like to have the 64 bit binary in the auto-installer, since
more

people are using 64 bits archs, we can't just say yeah, if you use
64bits, go compile it yourself and also, it seems that tls 1.4 doesn't
work for 64 bit, you need 1.5 in order for it to be 'compatible' with
64bit.. so I don't want to have a list of 1.4 and 1.5 downloads, it
would

be better to have it consistent everywhere...
I have created the x86_64 binary and would like to add it to the list.
But
since we are downloading the packages from sf.net file release system
and I
don't have permission to use it, could someone else upload it? I can
email

you the package.

someone else can upload it for you, I can't right now, or you can put it
in the 'things to do when we do a release' wiki page, and add update tls
packages... so we update all of them.
can you post it to the wiki as an attached file until we put it in SF ?
(that is of course only if no other admin has the time to add the file to
the file releases...

And about updating the other architectures. Are there any volunteers to
do it

on it on their own computer or should I use the sf.net's compile farm?

you must ask for the compile farm and wait for SF.net to accept you (given
your reasons/motivations) before you can access the compile farm.. yeah, i
know.. it sucks...

can someone also confirm that 1.5 for x86 works with 64bit archs ?
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13248package_id=2183
6 here are the releases of tls (official), I don't see as many options
as
amsn gives.. if I remember correctly we offer a lot of options, right ?
I
suggest we also keep it to a minimum, remove the windows/mac because
it's

already shipped with it, the only problem is source package for linux...

I'll remove Win and Mac when I add the x86_64 package.

will be done at the same time as update tls packages..

rpms and deb files (and autopackage and klik, and..) will all depend on
tcltls, so it's not a problem..
I also would like to suggest that we automatically install tls with
amsn,

instead of giving radio buttons and the choice to the user to select his
platform... using the ::tcl_platform we already know what's the
platform,

so why bother asking the user ??

Added to wiki.

Thanks

They must have changed their policies. All you have to do is just give them a
ssh key and you are set. I compiled the trac dependencies on them as I didn't
have an x86 machine.

as you wish, but whether you do it or not is not important, if it's in the

as long as there's a trace of it.

You get a webcam invitation, you accept it , and bam youre sending
