Re: Farewell to Bodhi
Dear Richard and Terry, You have clearly given Bodhi everything there is to give, especially love. The decision to let him go must have been wrenching and you were so compassionate to do it. I often wonder as I read these posts if I will be so strong when our turn comes. I wish there was a way to make our Berners stay with us always. Thinking of you and Jackson and Bodhi in all of the beauty that you described. Feel him near you soon. Susan Kowitz, Mercedes, and Bentley Sequim, WA
Berner-Garde Name the Berner Contest...
I've received the first few entries into the Name the Costco Berner and we have already raised $140 for Berner-Garde!!! For this fundraiser, we have 97 terrific Berner things that you can win. In 2000 we were able to raise $7,284.25 for Berner-Garde through our fundraiser with a lot less Berner items. I am striving to surpass that number with this year's fundraiser for Berner-Garde. I know that this is a HUGE goal, but if we are ever going to make any progress on genetic diseases with our Berners, it is going to take a HUGE amount of money. Now, HUGE donations would be one way to reach our goal and I'd love some of those. The other way to reach our goal is to have HUGE numbers of Berner lovers donate smaller amounts of money by entering our Name the Costco Berner Contest. Many hands make the workload lighter!! Some of the people who have sent in entries for the contest have forgotten to send in their dog name entries for the Name the Costco Berner Contest, so I'm e-mailing them asking them to send me a dog name for the contest. Others are forgetting to tell me how to distribute their free tickets for the drawing for all of the wonderful Berner items. I guess people get so excited with the many Berner items that they forget to include these important things with their checks. No problem.we'll get the information after I get the checks. I'm just thrilled to get the donations!!! Please visit the special website that Karen Pickel has designed for our contest: http://www.overthefence.com/helpberners/bg/ All of the directions for entering the contest are on the website, plus you can see the HUGE amount of spectacular Berner items that generous Berner owners and friends have donated. If you truly care for the breed and the future of all Berners, then you will want to contribute to this fundraiser. Thank you all in advance for your generous support to help Berners. Berner Hugs, Joye Neff and Nick

Re: Berner-Garde Fundraiser
Why Patricia, Maria Crifasi would do nothing like that to get the paintings. She'd have a much more subtle plan - she'd just walk by with Buddy and Daisy and when you started paying attention to them, she'd calmly and collectedly, slip the paintings into her BIG purse and continue walking her Berners. You'd not even miss them until she was out of sight. All you'd hear is the laughing as she sped out of the parking area with the paintings and her Berners. The wonderful items that we have for our Berner-Garde fundraiser are just so spectacular, the it drives people to do strange things.. Joye Neff and Nicky Mt. But if I had to choose, the puppy in the hosta is awfully cute. If Helen Hollander doesn't make big donations to Berner-Garde, then maybe I'll be able to keep this painting! I was thinking of bringing it to the York show to let everyone see it, but Maria Crifasi was there. She would have hit me over the head and taken it home with her. Really! Malabsorption problem
About a month ago I had blood work done on my nine year old. The Total Protein and Albumin were very low, which should have indicated renal/liver failure, but Tulie didn't show any signs of that. Two weeks ago we redid the blood work, and the levels were good now. On Sat., Tulies front feet looked swollen. I took her by the Vet yesterday, he agreed and said he could feel a little pitting edema. Tulie did have diarrhea over the weekend. I have not been able to figure out the pattern to her diarrhea, as it has happened for a day or two every couple weeks. This morning I started her on Prozyme in her food. She is eating the same food that I have always fed her, Sensible Choice Adult Chicken. My Vet said that I should probably not make a change in her food right now. The Vet also said that if the swelling persists, I should take her in to have the Protein and Albumin checked again. Does anyone know what can be done to help with edema? I am getting her up and walking her around every two hours, even though it's 107 degrees out. Today I took her to the local dog wash and had her stand in cold water for 10 minutes. Tulie is acting normal in every other way, still has a great appitite, barks, and wants to chase cats. Please give me any suggestions that might help.
