Re Yahoo Groups
I am about overwhelmed (like everyone else) with spam, esp porn. John thinks that largely comes from yahoo groups. Sadly I get spam in on an email addy I have never even used, let alone joined a Yahoo Group with! A few months ago I was getting some 200-300 junk mails in per evening, I'm now using MailWasher and am now down to about 50 a day! I've heard that you should use different screen names on your group accounts to eliminate some spam. I don't understand how that would help and I don't understand how to do it. I don't think that would help with spam, but you can use different email addies with different groups (and different Profiles) http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs Click on Account Info to make any changes. My Preference Page also lets you turn off Pop Ups and is where you can UnBounce yourself! Love Jean, Sunny, Sim, Barney and the Gang XX http://bernese.biz
LAST DAY - Drawing is this evening....
This is your absolutely last day to be able to make a donation to Berner-Garde and be entered into the drawing for the wonderful 99 Berner items in our fundraiser. The drawing will be late this evening and I would hate anyone to miss out on an opportunity to win some very nice things. So.THERE IS STILL TIME to enter the contest - all you have to do is send me a check and also to send me an e-mail with the amount you are sending and the instructions for distributing your tickets into the envelopes.See, that is so easy and you have a very good chance to win some excellent items and help Berner-Garde and the BMDCA Health Committee develop a DNA Repository and Tissue Bank that will benefit our Berners at the same time. You can be part of the solution by just donating money to the Berner-Garde Fundraiser - we need your help. Here is the website: http://www.overthefence.com/helpberners/bg/ I'll look forward to the many messages that I know will come to my computer while away for most of today!!! Thank you to all for your continuing support!!! Bernerly, Joye Neff and Nicky (and Ben) Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh, PA
BMDCA Code of Conduct
Just a reminder that September 10th is the deadline for getting comments and feedback in to the committee that worked hard to develop a new code to consider. I'd love to find out that just as many people wrote in with their comments about the COC as people who wrote in about Bernd's new book. The publisher had over 200 responses, and I'd love to hear that at least that many BMDCA club members took the time to read and comment on the proposed COC. To those of you who have already given feedback, thank you! I have long wanted to see a more meaningful code for the club, and it cannot be done without the consensus and support of the membership. Each thoughtful comment is helpful. If you support it, let them know! If you don't support it, give them some specifics. They are doing this work for all of us, and the very least we can do is to assist them in those efforts. I've seen the complaints about the club not having a strong meaningful code, and this is our chance to have some input. To read the proposed code and for information about how to submit comments, go to: http://www.bmdca.org/coc/intro.pdf or just go to www.bmdca.org under the section Announcements. Pat Long Berwyn PA
Regarding Kessel posts
At 07:43 PM 9/6/2003 -0400, you wrote: Hey gurl Thank you so much for calling today. Cathi Hi Cathi, It was nice to visit for a little while. Always nice to hear in person how things are going. I hope you don't mind me sending this on to the berner-l also. It is simply my interpretation after reading Kessel's posts you sent. To be honest with you, these posts are so absurd, they made me laugh! We all, from the berner-l, have ALWAYS shown kindness and compassion for each other. What this individual said was so far out there and so off colour compared to who we are on the list and what we stand for, I found myself chuckling. Sorry for the opposite reaction of being fired up and angry like everyone else, I thought the post so 'OFF', it was absurdly STUPID and BAZAAR!! Hey, whatever floats one's boat. Not one of us agree with this individual and I feel no harm done here because if anything, everyone simply set out to prove him/her WRONG! Ha!! This is simply my 'educated' opinion as I've been on this list and have been graciously supported by it for over 4 years! Hey Kessel, if you're still lurking, 'Thank YOU for reminding us how loving and compassionate we are collectively on our beloved Berner-l :o) Love from us Cathi, give Ari and Bacchus lots of snuggles. Re: One Door Closes and a Window Opens
Being a faithful and devoted Berner owner since 1994, I have to say that losing my first Berner has been an experience that has been both heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time. Bernard of Puddingstone (Bernie to our family) came into our lives on a cold, snowy day on the NYS Thruway. He was handed to me at the age of 49 days in a blanket by JoAnne Gerow when because of an overturned truck we could not make it all the way up to her kennel. He sat on my son Josh's lap, then 7 yrs. old and now turning 16, and instantly became an integral part of our family. He was our protecter(as well as the entire neighborhood's!) and a loving and faithful family member for almost 9yrs. This past summer he came on vacation with us to Montauk, NY along with our 1yr. old BMD, Buzz and Van our newly adopted Golden. I will be forever grateful for taking him with us because it turned out to be his last week with our family for when we arrived home he passed away with a smile on his face and dignity just a few days later. He was my loyal and faithful guy right to the end. I walked out of our kitchen to check my email and he passed when I left. He protected me to the end by not breathing his last breath in front of me. Buzz and Van refused to leave his side. Van, a 2 yr. old Golden who is a reject from the Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ came into our lives for a reason for sure. He was given up to me by a family that I worked for this summer who could not give him the quality of life he deserved. He has made life without Bernie so much more bearable. He truly came into our lives just at the right time. Thanks you's go out to all that were there to support us during this really hard time. For those of you that knew Glora Henes, Bernie was one of her last puppies from Peter the Great and I dedicate this little email in her memory. I always wanted to become more involved in the BMDCW and this past spring I took on the position of rescue along with Margaret McMath. Thanks go out to Margaret for all of her help and support in the Rescue arena. I couldn't have a better mentor! Lastly, Congratulations and Best of Luck to Barbara and Bob on their adoption of Sammy. Thank you for your gift as well! They are delicious! I am so happy that I was able to assist you in finding your BMD! Marla Weinman Rescue Contact BMDCW
RE: baka: no blockages but still having hind end problems
Hi Laura. The symptoms sound like Lyme Disease. Our Charisma experienced the same upset stomach and lameness last summer. David Sandler and Charisma -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, September 06, 2003 4:53 PM To: Berner-l; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: baka: no blockages but still having hind end problems i'm greatly relived to know baka's diarrhea problem was unrelated to the hind end weakness and pain. baka's been blood tested (came back perfect except showing some dehydration), xrayed (intestine walls stomach looks 100% normal now), examined by hand multiple times (nothing gets a negative reaction, she just grins wags), and ultrasounded (nothing out of the ordinary). last night baka ate several small bland meals (she was ravenous), peed fine, no vomiting, no nausea, no dry heaves nor grass eating. baka even pooped last night, the first half was a little soft full of grass, but the second half looked perfectly normal formed. the digestion problem should be cleared up completely by tomorrow night i think the vet is very confident there is not a blockage. unfortunately that leaves us without an explanation for baka's inability to stand up the other day. baka is standing up on her own as of yesterday and she'll walk from spot to spot when she's in the mood, but she's still arching her back walking strangely with her hind legs. baka's also still slow to rise and slow to lay down, as if she were stiff or sore (like she used to before her hip surgery a couple years ago). our vet didn't feel or see anything obviously wrong, so we're a little confused. and we don't want to put any pain killer in her system until we're certain the diarrhea is completely resolved (she lost 6 lbs! in just those 4-5 days). i'm thinking of taking baka to see the chiropractor vet who is 30 minutes away. my thinking is that maybe her hands are more sensitive could feel something being off that our regular vet might miss? either way, my vet is expecting my call monday to see how baka did over the weekend decide what to do next. i'm trying not to worry, but this is certainly confusing. i don't like seeing my baby hurt not know ho to fix it (and baka *so* unhappy now that the weather's cooled off i won't let her go to the dog park, every time we walk past the car she whines at it). thank you to everyone who's emailed their support advice. laura baka chapel hill
Worried Mother Syndrome-Ari takes a ride
Everything is fine. But late this morning Ari didn't look right. Didn't want to stand, when she did she was roach-backed, stiff legged, tail tucked. Temp was elevated. I called the emergency vets and they said bring her in just to make sure. Of course, when we got there she was wagging her tail saying hello..they are so wonderful there. They looked her over, but said they expected a bit of WMS [worried mother syndrome]. Then they told me how tickled they are by the people calling for Ari. Evidently now, after taking a call, the receptionist goes into the back and announces I just got a call from [fill in location]. And they are all just blown away. She told me she got tears in her eyes yesterday. And this is without including the wonderful people who are sending help by mail. Wait till they see that. Thanks again a million times over for everyones prayers, support, suggestions, and help with her bills. You are not just affecting me and the babies.but an entire emergency clinic is overwhelmed by the generosity of the berner community. Cathi with Bacchus and Ari
Berner Christmas Stocking
I just wanted to take a quite moment to thank the owners of Decadent Dog in South Haven, MI for shipping me the Berner Christmas Stocking that I purchased while in town over Labor Day weekend. Dharma loves her stocking and loves her gourmet treats. You guys have a wonderful store and I see why it is the most popular store in South Haven, MI. If anyone is ever in or near South Haven, MI - I highly recommend visiting Decadent Dog - its wonderful. Terri
re: baka: no blockages but still having hind end problems
Hi Laura and Baka, I finally realized I had a similar (but not exactly the same) episode with my dog Tanzi in June. We had showed on Saturday and she was not quite as perky as usual, and had mild diarrhea. Got home, she ate as usual and spent most of the evening outside. At bedtime I called and she did not come. So I had to go out and find her (very large fenced backyard). She was unable to get up (she is 2 1/2). I helped her and she was very lame in her hind end (her GDC's are excllent, with normal elbows). So I called the emergency clinic and took her in. I had to basically carry her into the clinic. They gave her morphine for pain and told me it might make her vomit. Sure enough, it did - and up came a large pair of panties (not mine) rolled into a nice compact cylinder garnished with hair and grass, so it looked like a dead rat. Since I had paid about $3500 for her dam's treatment and surgery the prior year, related to swallowing an entire pair of pantyhose (not mine, again) in one piece, we had a few good yucks over all the money I had saved, and I took Tanzi home. She was a dead weight and I had to set her down in order to open the front door. I could carry her if she was elevated, but I could not really pick her up from the ground. So I somehow got her just inside the front door (up one step) and set up an x-pen around her. Checked her at 7 a.m. and she had not moved and was not much better. She ended up going back to the emergency clinic in the afternoon - but now she was lame in the front! X-rays revealed inflammation of the joints. So they put her on Rimadyl and sent me home. By that night, she was completely normal again. And has been normal ever since. However, I just heard about a friend's dog who had to be spayed due to pyometra that had also resulted in peritonitis. From what I understand, she had lameness and swollen joints as well. I had been worried Tanzi might have been bloating and had heard that hind end lameness can be related to abdominal distress. So maybe the panties had caused that?? But what about that front-end lameness? It was almost like the inflammation was moving from joint to joint??? Whatever it was, it was brief in duration but it really scared me. Within 24 hours, she was fine. But at times during those 24 hours, I was worried that she might die. To see a normally incredibly sound and very active young dog, unable to walk, is scary. I hope all is well with Baka, but if you ever get more explanation I would love to hear what it was. We don't have any answers on Tanzi. I was thinking maybe the hind-end was due to the panties, and the front-end was just caused by straining to make up for the rear but I am not at all convinced. I am almost wondering if she had some weird virus? Sharon Montville - Firstrax - Colorado __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
