Re: [Bitcoin-development] Signing release binaries

2012-07-30 Thread Peter Pauly
I'd like to see the binaries signed with gpg, independent of any signatures
required for various operating systems.

I can't imagine a worse scenario than the bitcoin.org site being hacked and
the binaries replaced with wallet-stealing code. All of the developers seem
to have gpg keys, how hard can it be to provide a detached gpg signature
for the binary?

[Bitcoin-development] BIP 22 - getmemorypool

2012-07-30 Thread Amir Taaki
Hi,

luke-jr wants me to split this BIP into 3 separate BIPs because he says that
other devs felt it was too unfocused and covered too many topics. However this
discussion took place on IRC, and I never saw any of it to ascertain what
happened (BIP 1 says drafts should be evaluated on the mailing list).

I think a discussion of BIP 22 perhaps did happen on the mailing list, but I
don't remember it. Sorry if that's the case.

Anyway before granting the permission to allow this proposal to be pared down,
and new BIPs granted for the non-core parts of this proposal, I want to know
what people think. I'm not a miner myself, so I'm prescient of my lack of
knowledge in the topic.

Thanks

Note that the Pooled Mining parts have already been moved to:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BIP_GMPPM

It just needs a number assigned (as the last part).

It actually took place on this list:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=20120612105038.GA29784%40vps7135.xlshosting.netforum_name=bitcoin-development

It just took some IRC prodding to get Luke to move in the direction of
breaking it up to get the optional parts that Pieter objected to out
of the spec.

Perhaps other people missed it too... so discussing it more sounds
fine if anyone objects.
