[BlindHandyMan] front porch light
Okay, Last weekend we went to OSH to buy a replacement bulb for the porch light. I got help from one of the service employees. My wife pointed out a light fixture that was similar to ours so we got the correct light bulb. The light is suppose to turn on at dust and turn off at dawn VIA a sensor. Well we have a problem, the light is not turning off. We have to turn it on at night and turn it off in the morning. So I need some trouble shooting hints to try out. Thanks

After reading about the recent post on compasses, it reminded me how one of these may help when using a leaf blower. I know in the past I'd get all turned around when operating a leaf blower. Well, now I'm in the market for a new blower. Do they make them any quieter? I'd like one that you can carry on your back.

It's good to keep in mind when shopping for new appliances to ask if they carry off the old one if you buy from them. Here in California, I don't thing you can take used appliances to a land fill. Also, I believe people run adds that they'll pick up for free.

Yesterday we pick up the correct light bulb for the front porch. I believe it was 40 watts as was suggested by the service a tenant. Came home and swamp them out. Turned the switch on and the light came on. This puzzled me as the censor should have known it was light out so the light shouldn't have came on. So we turned the switch off and turned it back on when it got dark. When my wife gets up it will be light and I'll have her check it to see if the light went off on it's own as it should have. I hope the censor didn't go bad. I can't see both the bulb and the censor going bad at the same time. So I'm perplexed at the moment.

[BlindHandyMan] porch light
The light bulb on our front porch went out. Question; being that it has some kind of censor that turns the light on once it gets dark and turns off in the morning when it gets light, is it a special light bulb? My wife thinks so, but I don't think so. I think it'll takes any light bulb providing it fits in the fixture.

No problems with sub degree coldness here, I live in Central California. Hardly ever falls below 32 and the front porch is covered. Now, I have to figure out how to change the light bulb. It is shaped like an octagon with vertical strips of glass about inch and a half wide and about 6 inches high with sheet metal between each strip of glass.. If it's like the one we had at our last home, it's a pain in the ass to change light bulbs as it damn near falls apart during the process.

Personally I go to my yahoo groups, scroll down past all the groups, and there is some check boxes where you can set all active groups to no mail which takes affect quite quickly. I do this every time I'm going to be away from the computer more than a couple of days. Then when you are ready to resume receiving mail, go back to the same check boxes and make the necessary changes and save the settings.

No problem, I have a gas grill, a Weber, and a smoker. I use them all with no problems. You can even buy wire baskets with handles to flip your meats. For thicker meats you may want to have a talking thermostat on hand. Personally I use my gas grill for steak, hamburgers, and hot links. Gas grills tend to burn to damn hot to cook your thicker meats, this is where a Weber is handy . Next weekend I plan to slow cook a nice size brisket. I'll start it off in my Weber to get the wood smoke into the meat for a few hours, then I'll finish of in my gas smoker for another 7 hours or so. Good luck.

We're not talking about flammable gloves. A person using cloth gloves is taking a risk. [BlindHandyMan] last to tip
I'm having a minor problem maybe someone can help me with. After coming out of sleep mode or stand by mode I hear the following. A USB device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it, click on this message for assistance. Being that my wife is sighted, I asked her to click on it, but all she see is the desktop icons. I knew before asking her, it was going to be a shot in the dark.

Dan, you are correct. Here in California, usually if you have a heat pump, it runs both heater and air. Gas is cheaper to run than electric.

Before I paid anyone to come out, I'd have a friend come over and look for visible signs. You can see mole growing on the walls. It's under the house where you can't see it unless someone goes under and takes a look. The house I grew up in was of that type. The glass was always cold and formed ice. You could put storm windows on the outside which would give you several inches between the windows which would help. Isn't inspections mandatory in your state with selling a home? You should hire an inspector who does this for a living. It's not what you can see but rather what you can't. Water damage, dry rot, termites etc. Those things often can't bee seen and it takes somebody who is trained in knowing what to look for. The inspection is mandatory in many states and the home owner should have that done in order to sell the house. If your state doesn't require it, you can hire a professional to do the job for you. The fee is around 400 to 500 dollars but if your really serious about buying it it's well worth the price especially if you live in an area with high humidity. It has an oil-fired boiler that provides baseboard heat and it does have central air, but that was added later and the air handler is in the attic and the vents are in the ceiling. Ok, so the purpose of describing this house is I am curious what things I should be looking for if we seriously entertain the idea of purchasing it. I understand there is a breaker panel and not a fusebox. However, let me mention a couple other things as well. There is a separate two-car garage that does have a fusebox, but this is a very substantial structure that they even put in some ceiling fans since one of the kids used to detail cars in there. In addition, there are two (I know this sounds nuts) walk-in freezers. I am talking freezers that are stand-alone buildings. Apparently this gent used to cut up meat for people if they would bring him the animal. Now the freezers are no longer operational, but they have been used for storage and either would make an excellent workshop. Oh as a side note, they are tossing in two tractor/mowers, a big walk-behind mower, and a snow blower. SO, honestly, the only issues for me is little if any closet space and that apparently was common in the 50[s as well and I know I would have to install a dish washer and a few other changes. The place has all hardwood floors under carpet and I can't imagine it would take much to fix these up. So, of course I am researching whether I could purchase the place that does sit on 2.5 acres and gee I could sell one of them and make half my investment bak. Dan, what would be fun if you had sight, would be to use a carbon arc set up to cut the puppy up! But it can be dangerous and a fire hazard. You use a carbon arc lead and stick a carbon rod in holder and where it holds the carbon rod there is a series of holes, maybe 4 or 5, I can't remember. Anyhow, a compress air line is hooked up to the lead and once you are ready, you press this button and air comes out of the tip in the direction of the carbon rod. Once that carbon rod hits metal the compress air stream blows the metal away. It sounds like a jet engine it's so loud. When I was a Iron Worker. Can you believe this. We move into a senior citizen mobile home park in December. I had a regular trash can that I saved our aluminum cans that I always smash. Well last week, I went outside to dump some and couldn't fine the trash can. Some lousy sum bitch stole the trash can and all. Now I need some ideas. I want something like a motion detector that will not only light up the area, but also start a cam recorder or the likes. I don't think it's all that easy as walking in to any hardware store and having a key made. I believe there is a chip in the key that will allow the motor to start and won't start without this chip. Dave, Yes, I knew Kenmore was made by Worlpool. Both vary good products. My wife and I have been together for 34 years and married most of that time/. We were still on our second washer and dryer when we bought this mobile home. Since there was a set that went with the mobile home we gave our old set away to a needy family. This set we have now we have know idea how old it is, but my wife said that they were in very new like condition. Just hearing of you tuning up your car got my ribs a hurting. We use to have a 73 blazer that I tuned up a couple of times. About 90 percent of the time your feet were in mid air with all your weight balanced on you ribs. I'd gets the plugs in, the points in, then call my neighbor over to help me set the gap on the points. Glad those days are over. Now we just take the car in. what, maybe 70 thousand miles or so? My wife was always getting mad at me for doing things she think I couldn't do. Now, she just leaves me alone and comes to my aid if I need her sight for something. Thank You Betsy, I believe you are correct. The web site stated the newer models had double to triple cycles. Don't think they're energy efficient though. They use allot of water. Blane, do you mine me asking where your from? In my adult life, I've only live in one place where there was no garbage disposal, and that was in an apartment. Someone on the list made a comet yesterday that garbage disposals were becoming a thing of the past.. I beg to differ. Tell a woman your taking her garbage disposal away. It's to damn convenient for all. Peeling potatoes and the likes into the sink and washing them down the disposal is to easy. Beats peeling them over the indoors garbage container. Besides that, cuts down the odor where you store your trash cans. The best product that I know to clean the walls before painting is called TSP or something like that. It removes all grease and etches the paint. But it sounds like you need to do some sanding first to remove the pealing paint. Who ever painted last didn't prepare the walls correctly. But we keep it in a rocker like drawer in front of the sink just under the counter top. Turning off the main, turning on faucets all around the house to bleed out water from the pipes I went back to the bathroom. Well I found out that the main valve also does not shut off the water completely. I found that out when I went to take off the valve under the sink. More water spirting everywhere. So I quickly put it on to stop the flow of water. Coming out of the wall was a pipe which I measured at 7/8 of an inch outter diameter with threads. So my wife went to the store and brought home a valve which was a half inch f.i.p. valve. The valve was female and fit the male end of the pipe coming out of the wall perfectly. So with water flowing out, I switched the old for the new, fitting perfectly. Now the valves are working well. So the question again is what does f.i.p. on this half inch valve mean? Dave A. [BlindHandyMan] GFI's
Back in early December my wife and I bought a triple wide mobile home. As most of you know, that would be in 3 sections joined together. On one of the outside sections, there is two full bathrooms. After we moved in I had a electrician friend of mine come in and restore power to both bathrooms which have GFI's already installed. Once here, he found the problem right away. On that section there is an outlet on the outside for the patio which was fried. Also, in the breaker box, the breaker for the 2 bathrooms and the patio outlet is GFI as well. If I lost you, I'm saying that where the breaker is tripped, it is also equip with a extra GFI as part of the breaker switch. That was fried too and was replaced. Well last night I plug in my digital player to charge in the extra bathroom and there was no juice. Victor, maybe you got a bad role? I've never had a problem with dyno tape working it'sself loose. I clean the area with soap and water and rinse the area with a clean cloth before hand. Has anyone out there been able to hook up a and receive a wireless connection to your laptop with out sight? I bought a Linksys WRT160N Ultra Rang... and was able to get it working with my desktop because it's hard wired into the router, slipped in the disk and followed the directions. But, when It came to getting my laptop connected wireless, I was unsuccessful. David, what do you consider a storm door? Some years back, I hung what I call a security door on the door leading to the side of my yard off the garage. I also hung a glass door with a section of the door that you can slide up to let fresh air in. This door I hung at the front door. [BlindHandyMan] hardware firewall help
I was doing some cleaning, better yet, I was trying to untangle all the wire and cables that the cable company made a mess while hooking up both cable modems for both internet and phone. While doing so, I forgot where I pulled out the cables leading in, and out of my linksys router. Can someone with a linksys router check the layout and let me know where the in jack from the cable modem goes into the router? Let me know if it's the jack nearest to the ac power jack, or the furthest away from the ac power jack. I hope this made sense.
