No, he didn't go to university, but from what evidence exists of grammar schools, such as the one in Stratford, I doubt that many of my current crop of undergraduates would have been able to hack it in that educational environment. Also, like many other intelligent people, then and now, Shakespeare seems to have read widely (as has been noted in some other recent postings). Reading need not occur only in the classroom. Well said. Incidentally, it is sometimes argued (more in the spirit of a lawyer than a scholar) that no records survive of Shakespeare's attendance at the grammar school, but the fact is that no records survive of anyone's attendance there in that period. And about whether there would be an authorship question...you're probably right. No one argues about whether Marlowe or Sidney wrote those works which have been attributed to them. Or maybe they do and I just am not aware of it? Information, anyone? Karen Peterson-Kranz University of Guam I once came across (in Cambridge University Library, which allows you to browse its collection, unlike the Bodleian) a book called (I think) *The Rosicrucians*, by someone called Olive Wagner Driver, which argued (?) that all Elizabethan literary works of any note (with the sole exception of Jonson's) were produced by a cabal of noblemen, all illegitimate sons of Queen Elizabeth. The _Faerie Queene_, for example, was the work of Leicester, her sixth son. The book, I suspect, was 'donated by the author'-still, there's nothing like a little Looney-ness to brighten one's day. John Smilie, a Gallatin lieutenant, was the floor leader of the anti-ratificationists in the state convention. Smilie condemned the Constitution for "inviting rather than guarding against the approaches of tyranny," and what he said was its "tendency to a consolidations not a confederation, of the states." Gallatin lost; Pennsylvania ratified by a two-to-one majority. Well, was he wrong? It certainly looks to me like it has "invited rather than guarding against the approaches of tyranny". Howard Davis from Who Got Einstein's Office? by Ed Regis: "...In an account of Godel's life and work, mathematician Solomon Feferman describes how Godel almost did himself out of American citizenship. For this an oral examination was required, and so Godel studied the United States Constitution. He noticed that, well...it had quite a few problems. For one thing, there were some contradictions in it. And for another, if you really looked closely enough, you'd find that the United States -quite legally!- could be turned into a dictatorship. He confided these discoveries to his friend, Oskar Morgenstern, who told him that he could not mention any of this at his citizenship examination. "On April 2, 1948, Godel showed up at the government offices in Trenton, accompanied by Einstein and Morgenstern who were there as witnesses. On the drive down to Trenton, Einstein kept telling a bunch of stories and anecdotes to keep Godel's mind off the logical problems of the American Constitution. But then the proceeding began. 'Up to now you have held German citizenship,...' the official began, but Godel jumped in and corrected this immediately. He was Austrian, not German. 'Anyhow,' the official continued, 'it was under an evil dictator- ship, but fortunately that's not possible in America...' " 'On the contrary,' Godel cried out, 'I know how that can happen!' Finally, though, Einstein and Morgenstern succeeded in restraining Godel long enough for him to be examined and duly sworn in as a citizen of the United States." Constitution worshippers make me a bit uneasy (but, as a foreigner, I won't take them to task -or Rambouillet- over it. Anyways, it's not just an American problem). Nevertheless, even if it isn't a great document, it is a common one so I figured the best solution was for America to abide by the damn thing long enough to find out what its actual flaws were. Now I'm not so sure; maybe it has been followed all too well. Anybody know Godel's "proof"? The original source is: Feferman, Solomon, et al. (eds.) Kurt Godel: Collected Works. Re: [CTRL] [22] America's Secret Establishment
-Caveat Lector- Memorandum Number Three: Thesis - The Order Creates The Soviet Union In an earlier book, published in 1974, we presented major evidence of Wall Street assistance for the Bolshevik Revolution. This assistance was mainly cash, guns and ammunition, and diplomatic support in London and Washington, D.C. Wall Street And The Bolshevik Revolution also introduced the concept which Quigley described, i.e., that Morgan and other financial interests financed and influenced all parties from left to right in the political spectrum. This Memorandum continues the story, but now links The Order to the earlier evidence of Wall Street involvement. On the following pages we reproduce a map of the Wall Street area and a list of firms connected with the Bolshevik Revolution and financing of Hitler located in this area. We can now identify the influence, in fact the dominant influence, of The Order in these firms. Revolutionary activity was centered at Equitable Trust Building, 120 Broadway, in the building in the photograph on page 139. This had been E.H. Harriman's address. The American International Corpora- tion was located at 120 Broadway. The Bankers' Club, where Wall Street bankers met for lunch, was at the very top of the building. It was in this plush club that plans were laid by William Boyce Thompson for Wall Street participation in the 1917 Russian Revolution. Guaranty Securities was in 120 Broadway, while Guaranty Trust was next door at 140 Broadway (the building can be seen to the left of 120). I. THE ORDER PUSHES FOR ASSISTANCE TO THE SOVIET ARMY Fortunately we have a copy of the memorandum written by a member of The Order, summarizing intentions for the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution. The memorandum was written by Thomas D. Thacher (The Order '04) a partner in the Wall Street law firm of Simpson, Thacher Bartlett. Thacher's address was 120 Broadway. Today this law firm, now in Bat- tery Plaza, has the largest billing on Wall Street and has former Secretary of State Cyrus Vance (Scroll Key) as a partner. In 1917 Thacher was in Russia with William Boyce Thompson's Red Cross Mission. After consultations in New York, Thacher was then sent to London to confer with Lord Northcliffe about the Bolshevik Revolution and then to Paris for similar talks with the French Government. The Thacher memorandum not only urges recognition of the barely surviving Soviet Government, which in early 1918 controlled only a very small portion of Russia, but also military, assistance for the Soviet Army and intervention to keep the Japanese out of Siberia until the Bolsheviks could take over. Orlin Grabbe/A Russian Follies New Yorker Magazine Says Iraq Made $800,000 Payoff to Primakov Gee, I've only been talking about intelligence agencies spying on banking transactions for the past 4 years. Think maybe the nay-sayers will finally shut up and pay attention? NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New Yorker magazine reported Sunday that British and U.S. intelligence officials believe Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov was paid off by Iraq to obtain strategic materials from Moscow to build up its nuclear weapons stockpile. Pulitzer-Prize winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh quoted high-level American intelligence sources as saying Primakov received $800,000 in a wire transfer in November 1997. The New Yorker said a spokesman at the Russian embassy in Washington denied all charges of corruption against Primakov. U.S. National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, asked about the report during an appearance on ABC's ``This Week,'' said that while he had not read the whole article and had just seen it, ''I have no evidence to support that, no. I don't know whether Mr. Hersh has.'' In the report, Hersh quoted one unidentified source as saying, ``A payment was made.'' ``This is rock solid -- like (now-jailed Mafia boss) John Gotti ordering a whack on the telephone. Ironclad.'' The weekly magazine, which goes on sale Monday, said a British signals-intelligence unit intercept produced evidence of the transfer. It quoted a second unidentified U.S. official as saying, ``There was a wire transfer to an account of $800,000.'' The report said that while it was not clear how Primakov was identified, the intelligence officials say it was traceable to the Russian Prime Minister, who is considered a possible successor to President Boris Yeltsin. Primakov became friendly with Saddam Hussein when he was posted to the Middle East by the Soviet Union in the 1960s. The two men reportedly grew closer after Saddam became president of Iraq in 1979. In February, the Sunday Telegraph newspaper of London reported that Russia had signed an arms deal worth $160 million with Saddam Hussein to reinforce Iraq's air defenses, potentially posing a threat to U.S. and British planes enforcing no-fly zones over Iraq. That report said the decision to provide Iraq with military assistance was approved by Primakov in retaliation for Operation Desert Fox, the air strikes against Baghdad's military infrastructure by Britain and the United States last December. Russia opposed the military attacks, which were designed to punish Baghdad for not cooperating with United Nations teams appointed to inspect its weapons facilities following the end of the 1991 Gulf War. Any deal Moscow made with Iraq would violate the U.N. arms embargo. ``Russia is hopeless now,'' Rolf Ekeus, the first head of the United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) in charge of dismantling Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, was quoted in the New Yorker as saying. ``It is clear that Russia is making a serious effort to control events. Saddam will get a bomb, because these materials are floating in. Every day, they are more advanced.'' The New Yorker article also said that the December bombings of Iraq included a specific attempt to assassinate Saddam. It said U.S. Central Intelligence Agency pressure on UNSCOM to allow the U.S. to use UNSCOM information and presence in Baghdad for spying helped dismantle the commission, thereby allowing Iraq to receive weapons and technology from Russia toward building its nuclear weapons stockpile. Is the Western Union office in Baghdad still open? How easy is it for a "rogue nation" to make a wire transfer? And if Primakov received the money why blame Russia for giving Iraq nukes? I can't see any reason Russia would want to supply Saddam with nuclear weapons because if he ever used them retaliation would be immediate and probably nuclear as well, forcing Russia to decide if Iraq was worth starting WWIII for. Personal gain by a corrupt politician is more likely. How much is $800,000 in bottles? Gerry DECLARATION DISCLAIMER == CTRL is a discussion and informational exchange list. Centred on the search for lost secrets of the pyramid builders, this extraordinary true story reveals the links between US scientific intelligence agencies, Mars and ancient Egypt. For almost 50 years, like Frankenstein's monster, this conspiracy has been put together from cultish - but astonishingly powerful - belief systems, culminating in the emergence of a new fundamentalism that is gathering strength by feeding on Millennium fever. Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince reveal the secret agenda that unites apparently independent authors and researchers - including top names with millions of readers worldwide - and which is targeted to all of us. The Stargate Conspiracy reveals that even the genuine musteries of the gods themselves have been hijacked by powerful cabals - whic include top industrialists, politicians, scientists and intelligence agencies such as MI5 and the CIA - in order to fulfill their secret agenda. At the heart of this conspiracy is the belife that the ancient Egyptian gods we - and are - extra terrestrial beings, that certain key people are in contact with them, and that they are about to return through the 'stargate' between our world and theirs. Are we prepared for the imminent return of the gods? And will we be expected unquestioningly to accept the conspirators as our spokesmen? Or is this an exercise in mass manipulation designed to make us support the conspirators? As they calculatedly whip up Millennium fever, triumphantly persuading us that they alone know how to talk to the gods, this book serves as a serious warning to mankind. -Caveat Lector- Wow! I could barely read this, it's so thick with fnords. An amazing piece of sophistry. I wonder how long ago it was that they were recommending that the IMF give money to Russia for exactly the same reasons they say not to now. How do they market this Econmist (sic. see end)? "Comes with its very own Memory Hole!" G. -Caveat Lector- from: http://www.economist.com A HREF="http://www.economist.com/"The Economist/A Russia, financial outcast Russia has been in default since last August on most debts and will soon want more money from the West so it can roll over the rest. The West should say no Russia, financial outcast Russia in default Russias economy Search archive THE jar is all but empty, and once again Russia is looking to the West for more honey. Once again, the spectre of bankruptcy looms. Once again, Russias apologists present the prospect of the bear, once rebuffed, sinking even further into resentful degradation and nerve-racking unpredictability, and bristling all the while with nuclear missiles. This time, however, the rich countries should steel themselves and say, Sorry, not until youve put your house in order. Unless Russia gets a radically new economic regime, any further western money is likely to be squanderedat best used to prop up a system that does not work, at worst to find its way into the pockets of corrupt politicians, officials and businessmen. So the system does work; and what percentage of the "corrupt politicians, officials and businessmen" that it works for are Russian? Since the roubles crash last August, many of the tentative gains of the preceding few years have been blown away. Misfortune has been piled on misfortune. Last autumns worst harvest in 45 years means that even bread may soon be in short supply. The price of oil, Russias main earner of foreign exchange, has tumbled. Investors, bruised by the collapse of Asian markets, do not wish now to be crushed in Russia. "Tentative gains" - what kind of intangible thing is that? And which of these misfortunes is Russia's fault? Of course! The price of oil is so low because Russia sells so much oil. They should stop selling oil - they'll make more money that way. The inflation rate, judging by Decembers figures, may rise to 100%, or even higher if the government decides to pay off wage arrears by printing money. As it is, many public-sector workersteachers, for instance, who are supposed to get a princely $20 a monthhave not been paid for a whole year. Much of Russias nascent middle-class has been pulverised. "As it is" - implying that the action contemplated in the first sentence will exacerbate the problem mentioned in the second; in other words, if they print money to pay workers then it will take even longer for workers to get paid. Very sound reasoning: bring up the inflation bugaboo and Econmist readers will believe any gibberish. Anyways, 100% inflation would probably result in an economy which is more efficient than one where household goods are bartered for food, and even big companies barter because they can't afford to pay taxes on money that they can't even borrow. The monetised economy is barely half the size of the Netherlands. Remember that: they have no money. We must not give them any and they certainly musn't print any. That way they can buy more. The murder rate may be the worlds highest. Male life expectancy has fallen to African levels: 58 years is now the average life-span, and the population is contracting by 800,000 souls a year. The country seems to be dying on its feet. True, Russia now has in Yevgeny Primakov a prime minister who, as a former head of the KGB, is gathering power and has the experience to make use of it. But he is not a man with a vision of the future or the determination to make changes for the better, more someone to manage the countrys decline. With Boris Yeltsin yet again shoved to the margin by ill health, Russia has no presidential guidance. The federation threatens to fragment. It has no real leader, no moral compass, no tangible hope that things material will soon improve. "Russia now has" - implying change. But the rest of the paragraph confirms that things are exactly as before. But Econmist subscribers are being prompted to change their opinions and actions regarding Russia. Kick 'em while they're down! It'll make you feel better for waiting until you read it in the Econmist to pull out of Russia long after the pirates have pillaged the investments the Econmist told you to make in Russia. Naturally there was a lot of outrage and complaints from the victims about the tens of thousands of dollars in repairs, but there were also some health complaints because the dampness allowed mould and fungi to grow which caused lingering flu-like symptoms and fatigue. This struck me because I remember a number of people on this list complaining of flu-like sickness that wouldn't go away. So you might check for damp areas in your residence. As to the luminescence of the contrail, if it was the *early* night sky and the contrail was very high, remember that the sun might still be shining on it. These contrail stories make me uneasy, too. I remember going out for a paper one morning when Vancouver was being sprayed to eridicate gypsy moths. I heard a plane overhead so I hurried -- couldn't have been outside for more than 3 or 4 minutes -- but I came down with a sore throat which was one of effects on humans that the sprayers admitted might occur. So I definitely don't like chemical agents being dumped on me from above! Nevertheless, it's important to eliminate alternative explanations before getting too paranoid. Re: [CTRL] Fascism On The Move Toward New Order
-Caveat Lector- Howard Davis wrote: So now I do not have the single question of whether or not it happened, but now I have two questions, first: Why did the allies do nothing about it? After the above was released I expected a lot of discussion on the above question. I did not see any on the major news web sites. Then last fall I went by the Holocaust Museum in Washington. I went by the library there to see what they had on this. The librarian knew nothing about it and even questioned if I might be mistaken. And, I could find nothing in any of the Journals they carried about this revelation. The second question, of course, is why not? Something is very fishy about this whole thing. You would think that there would have been a lot more about it in the news then, for instance, the Nazi gold in Switzerland. Also, the documents should set the total number killed much more accurately then was possible previously. Any ideas? Howard Davis Do you know any popular history that isn't simplified to a few basic points? Any that doesn't have clearly delineated good guys and bad guys? And it seems that the main defence against Holocaust deniers is to simplify further and focus all of the blame on those who committed the genocide and none on those who may have been complicit through acts of omission. The whole effect is to turn the Holocaust into an historical icon which has no meaning outside of itself; all those resolutions of "Never again" are as firm as a blade of grass in a hurricane. Anyway, I'm not convinced that this information is as suppressed as you imply (although it is surprising that the Holocaust museum professes to have no knowledge of it). I recall hearing Allied excuses years ago and I believe that there were a few posts on this list some weeks ago about whether or not the train tracks to Auschwitz should have been bombed. Nevertheless your concerns have some resonance with a current scandal that made a blip in the news and then disappeared: who knew what, and when, and failed to act on that information to prevent the genocide in Rwanda. Put Dallaire+Rwanda into a search engine to get the dirty details, but here are some of the highlights: -- General Dallaire asks for authorization to confiscate an arms cache. Not only is permission refused but Dallaire is instructed to relay his informant's intelligence and the U.N. decision not to act to the Rwandan president and his political party, even though they were the very people who were planning the massacre. (btw that's Gen. ROMEO Dallaire, an apt name for a peacekeeper: see Romeo Juliet Act 3, Sc. 1) -- Dallaire faxed the U.N. quoting a senior Rwandan security official as saying he had been ordered to register all Tutsis in Kigali for the purpose, he suspected, of "their extermination" Kofi Annan is head of peacekeeping operations at this time. -- Dallaire comes up with a plan to break the momentum of the slaughter. The U.N. Security Council dithers and the idea is finally scotched when Bill Clinton refuses to allow the use of American planes to transport troops from Nigeria and Ghana to Rwanda. (The Ghanaians probably come out best in the whole affair. The general in charge of their meagre forces already in Rwanda disobeys a direct order from the U.N. to evacuate, saving 5-10,000 Rwandans.) Later analysis of Dallaire's plan by Gen. Schroeder of the Carnegie Corp. suggests that it had a good chance of working and certainly could have been no worse than the U.N.'s (in)action. -- Dallaire and other U.N. officials are refused permission to testify at a Belgian inquiry. Annan cites "diplomatic immunity" and claims that all necessary information had already been furnished by the U.N. Coverup? (the Belgians are pissed at Dallaire because he dawdled while their soldiers were killed; Dallaire had been negotiating for the safety of the Rwandan prime minister, but she was probably already dead at the time) Annan later waives diplomatic immunity to allow Dallaire to testify at the trial of the Rwandan massacrists. Apparently his testimony regarding the insanity of the situation is to be used to mitigate the sentences of the killers. And so on. About a year ago a black Congresswoman from Georgia was pressing to find out what Clinton knew, and when he knew it, but apparently there's something about black Congresswomen that makes their voices inaudible to the media. But blaming Clinton won't help, especially with analysis from the Carnegie Corp.: "The

Hitler's Plan for Europe was to establish a Europe of Regions. The plan for the European Community or the "Europaischewirtschaftgemeinschaft" was published in 1942. This has been dismissed by Europhiles, and since any mention of the EU being a parallel to Hitler's plan produces the accusations of xenophobia, Germanophobia, etc. let's introduce another [snip] Bruce Rich in his book on the World Bank, Mortgaging The Earth, relates that the original plan for the World Bank was an idea of Hjalmar Schacht, the Nazi finance minister. It was broadcast as Nazi propaganda so the British went to John Maynard Keynes to come up with a better idea; he frankly admitted that he couldn't, so they doctored Schacht's plan a bit and spun it off as their own concept. The original Nazi (and Allied) plan for the "World Bank" (if I'm not mistaken there is no organisation called the World Bank -- it still officially goes by its original title: The International Bank of Reconstruction and Development [IBRD] ) bears no resemblance to the monster we see today. It was originally designed to rebuild Europe after the devastation of WWII. When this was pre-empted by the Marshall Plan its original president, John J. McCloy, a regular Mr. Fixit for the powers-that-be, would go on to become High Commissioner for Germany just in time to commute a few death sen- tences and exonnerate Krupp, Farben et. al. (Later, of course, he would sit on the Warren Commission and pave the way into China for Nixon/Kissinger/Bush/Clinton). The bank was converted to its current purpose of making sure that a steady flow of resources *and* capital moved from the Third World to the First. It has been some time since I read the book but the date 1942 (as given for the Europaischewirtschaftgemeinschaft) sounds about right for the "World Bank" plan as well. I feel more and more that Soros is deliberately manipulating the world economy for his own personal benefit. I doubt that he has a hidden political agenda, although others of the elite--such as Maurice Strong--clearly do. Bob Don't count on his conscience -- didn't you catch the bit about him being "a moral man who sometimes acts amorally" ? Those who resort to Amorality are wilfully blinding themselves in order that they may commit acts they know or suspect to be IMmoral. The Nuremburg trials removed the little guy's recourse to amorality ("just following orders") without reducing the big guy's ("just doing business"). Actually, Soros can't claim amorality since he has (correctly) pointed out that economics is a social science (rather than a hard science) and therefore not subject to immutable laws. As to his motive? I don't know; he seems to enjoy mooning everyone while they're craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the emperor's new clothes. Re: [CTRL] Iraq: Attack of the Hormones?
-Caveat Lector- Alamaine Ratliff wrote: What calamity (if any) was about to befall Geo Bush (Sr) when it was originally decided to act against Iraq back in '90? It seems as though when 'genderhood' is threatened, Hussein appears to be the one they try to geld. I refer to this in view of the Sudan/Afghanistan strikes (following Grand Jury testimony) and now this. The impetus for my comment stems in part from an O'Reilly (Fox News) piece with Al Haig, during which Haig referred to striking Iraq as being a way to prove 'manhood' ... is Willie Clinton the only one to whom Haig may have referred? Sorry to respond so late. I don't think Bush intended to attack Iraq at all. I recall that there was a regularly scheduled meeting of world leaders shortly after the invasion of Kuwait (G7 in Denver?) where the press had its first crack at the collected government leaders. When the question of Iraq came up Bush hemmed and hawed about an appropriate response; it was Margaret Thatcher who weighed in with threats to kick Saddam's ass all the way back to Baghdad. After that the idea of ousting Saddam from Kuwait wouldn't go away but neither was it a unanimous public opinion which is why the "incubator babies" incident was required. I suspect that the invasion of Kuwait had something to do with the manipulation of oil prices, possibly by placing an embargo on Iraqi oil (including the conquered oil, whether that was meant to be the disputed oil field or all of Kuwait's production). In return Saddam might get whatever he could haul out of Kuwait and the assurance that things would cool down after a couple of years and he could resume pumping oil (if Saddam's complicity was even required). Perhaps it was Bush's failure to achieve the original target that caused him to step aside (so to speak) but it might have been his final act anyway -- so many scandals barely under the surface, and Bush may be more effective away from the public eye. Maggie didn't last long after that and I don't doubt that she was turfed for speaking out of turn. It's also interesting to consider the consequences of the recent fireworks and ponder whether they were intended or not. Saddam now has a *greater* opportunity to build "weapons of mass destruction" since it will now be difficult for the U.S. to get world support to force Iraq to admit inspectors. Maybe there wasn't enough terrorism in the world? Russia is making noises about re-arming, China has cracked down on democracy activists; all in all America has lost its "moral authority" which may give despots everywhere the opportunity to eliminate nuisances without fear of reprisals. Something to consider, anyway. Gerry DECLARATION DISCLAIMER == CTRL is a discussion and informational exchange list. Proselyzting propagandic screeds are not allowed. Substancenot soapboxing!
