I didn't see anything in the text to implicate the American Communist Party
here (other than support of Wallace).  That wasn't exactly espionage.  As for

one day with great fanfare, the pretty captain took the colonel to base
operations to catch a plane to the states.  He was going home for a divorce.
Fine, lots of that in the military too.  When he came back,  she welcomed him
with open arms and lots of smiles.   All went on as usual.  A few months
later, she again packed him up and drove him to base operations to catch a
plane to the states.  He was going home to get married.  After a couple of
weeks, he came back again, and again she welcomed him with open arms and lots
of smiles, and their relationship continued as it was until he rotated.  Now
that shocked me.  You will please observe that most of the time when the
military get really officious about these matters, they involve
fraternization.   That's any relationship between officers and enlisted.  They
are pretty sticky about that.  I remember one general who was having an affair
with an enlisted guy's wife, but he fixed it by having her husband made an
officer.  (He was a Marine Corps general; I don't think the others have the
power to do that anymore.)   If an officer's child happens to be enlisted and
comes home to visit, he advised not to wear his uniform.  So you can see, they
really don't want the two castes to mix.  Anyway, no matter what these folks
try to tell us these days, there's a whole lot of sex going on in the
military.  Some of it fits the mold, and a whole lot more does not.  Prudy

of everyone they could find, someone (I think it was the driver when asked
what did the governor say when he got shot, said that Connally had spoken
those words.  It was a man's voice that I heard say it.  At the time I turned
to my husband and said, "Connally was in on it.  He knew something was going
to happen, and he was afraid he hadn't been included in quite all the plan."

Did anyone else read the column by Sebastian Rotella in the Los Angeles Times.
It was "Behind Condominium Gates and Electronic Security, Brazil's Wealthy
Tremble."  It gave a picture of the wealthy Brazilians living in well guarded
enclaves from which they try never to venture forth.  They are under constant
threat of robbery and kidnappings.  It claims that more and more Brazilians
avoid public spaces and conventional homes in favor of closed streets and
controlled environments.  Even in the so-so city in which I live, I notice
more an more gated communities and restricted areas.  When I see the way we
are going in the US, it is possible that the Brazilian experience is what we
have to look forward to.  Even though the lowly and downtrodden in this world

what-is-sex survey of college students to coincide with President Clinton's
impeachment trial.   The article - "Would You Say You Had Sex' If...? found
that 59 percent of college students surveyed did not consider having oral sex
as having "had sex."   What is and what isn't having sexual relations is

Turkey is in bad trouble with the new US attitude here.  They want to
strengthen the Kurdish factions which are right on Turkey's border.  Since the
Kurds want the land that is Eastern Turkey, they may well use their new
strength to attack that area.  Turkey already has intense problems with the
Kurds who live in East Turkey and who want to declare that part of Turkey as
their own Kurdistan.  Of course there are other Kurds who want their Kurdistan
to take part of the Soviet Union and part of Jordan and part of Iran and part
of Iraq.  So the Turks are very nervous.  They don't want to aid the US in
letting the Kurds take their part of Kurdistan out of Turkey.  When I was
living in Diyarbakir, Turkey, the Kurds could play their music, speak their
language and dance their dances.  That still did not stop their desire for a
sovereign nation of their own.   I don't think there ever was a Kurdistan
historically, but philosphically there certainly is.  Prudy

with the downfall of Richard Nixon?  Bob Woodward was the point man in this
operation, and he is as conservative as they come, both in heritage and in
personal belief.  He was not a cub reporter.  He was an ex-Navy commander who
had been a briefing officer at the White House.  I don't know when he decided
to leave the White House and take a job with the Washington Post.  How did he
get the plum?  Your guess is as good as mine.  He was not a good writer, but
he did have the background of Yale where he was involved in journalism to some
extent.  He didn't make Skull  Bones, but he was Snake  Book or Book 
Snake, whatever.  After him we have Alexander Haig and a host of others who
could never be considered to be "left or liberal" however you want to slice

Hastert, have been working together for a long time.  The Feb 7 issue of "In
These TImes" says "they have been deploying their good cop/bad cop routine in
tandem for years."  They claim that this has put DeLay in the catbird's seat
on the new team.  They also say "Hastert is steeped in the dour and
puritanical traditions of German Protestantism, and his surface geniality and
reputation as a man of his word will serve as the perfect cover for DeLay's
draconian exigencies."  They discuss DeLay's various tactics, etc., and then
say: "Those menaces were backed by the shock troops of the Christian right and
their feldkommandurs--Paul Weyrich, Gary Bauer, James Dobson and Randy

  According to my morning paper the grand jury has dismissed our "crackpot
theories" about the Oklahoma bombing and returned a  sealed indictment that
said it found nothing to indicate additional conspirators or a Government
cover-up.  The judge who oversaw the grand jury said the report will satisfy
many people who had serious questions but was worried that "others will simply
now include these jurors as the newest members of the conspiracy."  The
Oklahoma Attorney General, however was really upset about "the worst kind of
paranoid conspiracy pandering" and is not surprised by the jury findings.   He
will be overjoyed to hear that we crackpots are not surprised by the results
of this grand jury investigation either.  Still, fellow crackpots, doesn't

INCIDENT WITH UCLA CAMPUS SECURITY FORCE - A LESSON FOR ALL AMERICANS

DATE: (1) December 23, 1998 starting at approximately 5:30 PM
 (2) December 29, 1998 starting at approximately 10:50 AM

PERSONNEL: Initially, a single Campus Security Officer (this division
claims to be the same as LAPD, and wears the same style of black uniforms
and drives a similar "black  white" with the "University of California -
Los Angeles" stenciled on the side of the vehicle), however, Lt. Garza
explained to me that they are employed by the UC system and similar to
Highway Patrol.  Later, Sgt. Sanchez, Watch Commander, and several officers
 - one a short, skinny, blood female.  Total of three patrol cars involved.

VICTIM:   Kathy Kasten, very tired state employee leaving campus to return
home after working overtime.  It is a long story, but I can assure you,
worth your while.

EVENT:After crossing the street (Le Conte, going south on Westwood)
legally.  Two cars attempting to make a left hand turn into traffic drove
into the pedestrian zone - insisting by their movements that I needed to
hurry and get out of their way because traffic was now coming at them.  In
other words, they were about to be hit, and I was just soft sided
pedestrian.  It was the third time that week that this had happened.  I
suddenly was overcome with "road rage" pedestrian-style.  There was no
vehicle traffic either north or south on Westwood, but the light was still
green.  To express my anger, I crossed against the light.  There was no
traffic coming, please remember that.  Yes, I was jay-walking.  Maybe for
the third time in my life.  A UCLA squad turned on its lights while crossing
Le Conte going south - against the light.  The officer got out and asked me
for some I.D.  I did not have any.  I had taken the bus to work (therefore,
I do not usually carry my driver's license), and my I.D. badge was in my
desk drawer in my office - a block from where I was standing.  The officer
asked my once again to produce some I.D.  I stated that I was homeless (I
live in an RV on the streets of Los Angeles, the people I work for know
this, it is no problem - I am clean, dress nicely, and do my job).  I also
stated that I had no I.D.  Whereupon, he made a statement - which I could
not hear - into the receiver around his neck.  Within a minute, we were
surrounded by patrol cars.  The Watch Commander jumped out, and ordered me
to spread eagle and bend over.  My purse and brief case was already sitting
next to the first patrol car where I had been ordered to place them.  From
almost the beginning, I had been calling attention to passer-by on the
street that I was homeless without I.D. and that was the reason I was being
held.  At one point, after the female officer had hand cuffed me and was
doing a physical search - i.e., this is no exaggeration, shoving her fist up
my crouch three times - no, NOT just running her hand over my body; plus,
pinching my breasts in circular motions - also three times.  Finally, I
asked the officer next to me why I was being arrested.  He stated "because
you have a big mouth."  I repeated this statement to anyone who was passing
by.  I was being arrested for having a big mouth.  Whereupon, the officer
stated he was going to pepper spray me and throw me in jail with gang
members.  I was in fact crammed into the first officer's squad and driven to
a cell in the Campus Police Station.  Even though, on the very short drive
to it, I remembered that I in fact had my driver's license because I had
brought my credit cards with the intention of getting some cash out of the
ATM on the way home, to tide me over the long 4 day weekend - Christmas!  No
matter.  I would still need to be put in a jail cell, provide fingerprints
and photo (of a very tired lady with unkempt hair - who knew).  Yes, I was
given a ticket.  There was some confusion on the part of the first officer
on the scene.  He did not know what to law to cite on the ticket.  I had
been arrested, not for jay-walking.  No, I am going to court because I was
unable to identify myself.  I wish this was the end of the story, and it
would have no importance for you.  But, it does not.

December 29, 1998 at 10:30 AM, I walked over the Campus Police Station to
get a complaint form.  I was made to wait 20 minutes with two different
excuses.  1) the Watch Commander was on the telephone with another citizen;
2) the Watch Commander was out in the field and would be returning.

I don't think he has an ace up his sleeve.  I think he is a pragmatic
individual who realizes that even God could not stop the Republicans from this
impeachment program, so what good does it do to waste time and worry on it.
Some women may understand.  It's like being pregnant.  You just relax and wait
for the outcome.  I even called my own congressman, Phil English, to tell him
to vote for impeachment.  We might as well get on with it.  This way the
Republican Party won't have to punish him for disobeying orders, and he may
get decent committee seats and be able to do the people in his district some
good.  The other plus is that this business just might get the Democrats back

UNIONISTS ARRESTED IN TIJUANA!
posted December 17, 1998

Tijuana, Mexico: Enrique Hernandez Felix, General Secretary of the  6th of
October Union of Workers in Industry  Commerce (the union representing the
Han Young workers) and Jose Angel Penaflor, the lawyer for the union, were
arrested this morning. This is part of an ongoing pattern of repression and
violations of human rights and Mexican labor law by officials of the Mexican
government. We hope to be able to post more information - as well as an
action request - soon, when we can consult further with the Support
Committee for Maquiladora Workers.

Meanwhile, local activists are urged to continue their leafleting activities
at Hyundai Motors dealerships. (Han Young produces chassis for another
division of Hyundai, which assembles tractor trailers.)

Background Information

Located in Tijuana, Mexico, the Han Young factory welds chassis for nearby
Hyundai operations, where the chassis are assembled into tractor trailers
("semi's"). Since June of 1997, workers at Han Young have been struggling to
win representation for an independent union and to get management to bargain
a new contract. Core issues are substandard wages (many skilled welders
receive the equivalent of only $4 US / $5.70 a day Canadian for a 10- to
11-hour shift) and life-threatening health and safety issues (totally
inadequate safety equipment, lack of ventilation for toxic gases, having to
stand in puddles of water while using high voltage equipment with frayed
cables, decrepit cranes which drop their loads without warning or swing
wildly out of control).

A clear majority of the workers has voted three times to be represented by
an independent union. The workers have stood firm in the face of armed
thugs, bribes, firings, disinformation campaigns and a host of illegal
actions by management and government officials in Mexico. The workers won
certification of their union in January after a 26-day hunger strike, but
management has refused to negotiate a contract with the independent October
6 union. Since May 22 of this year, when the previous contract expired,
virtually the entire regular workforce at Han Young has been on strike.

Throughout this struggle, international pressure has remained strong. The
two essential elements of international solidarity are: political pressure
on the Mexican federal government to enforce its own labor law and economic
pressure on Hyundai to use its considerable leverage with Han Young, which
produces only for Hyundai.

the Vietnam thing was.  Did he do his duty.  Of course.  Does he blame Clinton

with a ton of guys who enlisted into the Air Force to keep from being drafted
