Like most bug chasers, he has the impression that the virus just isn't such a big deal anymore: It's like living with diabetes. You take a few pills and get on with your life. Carlos spends the afternoon continually calling a man named Richard, someone he met on the Internet. They met on barebackcity.com about a year ago, while Carlos was still with his boyfriend. That boyfriend left because Carlos was having sex with other men and because he was interested in barebacking -- the practice of having sex without a condom. Carlos and Richard are arranging a date for later that day. Carlos is part of an intricate underground world that has sprouted, driven almost completely by the Internet, in which men who want to be infected with HIV get together with those who are willing to infect them. The men who want the virus are called bug chasers, and the men who freely give the virus to them are called gift givers. While the rest of the world fights the AIDS epidemic and most people fear HIV infection, this subculture celebrates the virus and eroticizes it. HIV-infected semen is treated like liquid gold. Carlos has been chasing the bug for more than a year in a topsy-turvy world in which every convention about HIV is turned upside down. The virus isn't horrible and fearsome, it's beautiful and sexy -- and delivered in the way that is most likely to result in infection. In this world, the men with HIV are the most desired, and the bug chasers will do anything to get the virus -- to get knocked up, to be bred or initiated into the brotherhood. Like a lot of sexual fetishes and extreme behaviors, bug chasing could not exist without the Internet, or at least it couldn't thrive. Prior to the advent of Web surfing and e-mail, it would have been practically impossible for bug chasing to happen in any great numbers, because it's still not acceptable to walk up to a stranger and say you want the virus. But the Internet's anonymity and broad access make it possible to find someone with like interests, no matter how outlandish. Carlos surfs online about twenty hours a week looking for men to have sex with, usually frequenting sites such as bareback.com and barebackcity.com, plus a number of Internet discussion groups. Most of the Web sites use the pretense that they actually are about barebacking, which is in itself risky and controversial but still a long way from bug chasing. For the Web sites, that distinction is at best razor-thin and more often just an outright lie. We got Poz4Poz, Neg4Neg and bug chasers looking to join the club, the welcome page to barebackcity.com, which claims 48,000 registered users, up from 28,000 about a year ago, recently said. The college's seriously flawed approach to health and safety matters raised a distinct possibility that both hepatitis C and dengue fever could be released into the open while it was attempting to create a hybrid from the two. Neither staff nor members of the public were adequately protected from the possibility that the man-made organism could have escaped, Blackfriars Crown Court in London was told. Scientists, led by Dr John Monjardino, failed to use sealed cabinets while studying the virus and made no emergency plan for dealing with a spillage. Staff at the college, part of London University, were not provided with protective clothing and had to walk through a room used as an office by other university employees in order to dispose of contaminated material. Keith Morton, for the prosecution, said: They were creating a hybrid virus for which no vaccine or treatment exists. Safety measures should have been of a very high standard to protect staff and the general public. They have shown a disregard for basic measures to ensure and monitor safety, as a consequence of which their employees were exposed to a very real risk of infection. Contrary to expected procedures, the Health and Safety Executive was only notified that the research had begun when a researcher inquired about transporting the hybrid virus to Oxford. A subsequent inspection in December 1998 uncovered the potentially hazardous regime. While Judge David Martineau acknowledged that work on finding a vaccine for the two diseases was very important, there could be no excuse for such lapses, he said. Hepatitis C is frequently fatal, while dengue fever causes a severe but non-fatal reaction. Imperial College admitted one count of failing to apply principles of good microbiological practices and principles of good occupational safety and hygiene under the Genetically Modified Organisms (Contained Use) Regulations 1992. It also pleaded guilty to one charge of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The college and its safety advisers were each fined £20,000 in March for exposing the public to an unacceptable risk from the HIV virus. The State vs. Doctors by Congressman Ron Paul, MD Being invited to address you today is indeed a particular honor for me. In seeking advice about my speech I was told to observe three things: 1.) Be brief; no one remembers graduation speeches and too often they are boring. Being brief is not the easiest request for a politician to fulfill. But I did decide not to read the 80-page speech I'd written. 2.) Be positive; don't dwell on the problems medicine faces; this is to be an upbeat event. Now that's a little more difficult for one who titles his weekly legislative report: Texas Straight Talk. 3.) Be non-controversial; well, that's just asking too much of a politician. My task today is to remark on the relationship of medicine to society from my perspective as a physician and legislator. To me this is a very interesting task, but difficult to accomplish in a short period. Before I begin, let me reassure you that I will try hard not to offend anyone, but that's probably not completely possible. If I do offend, I apologize. But you need not worry too much about a disagreement you might have with what I say, because I'm an advocate of a political philosophy that believes social and economic problems should not be solved by passing more laws and using force, but instead, solutions should come through freedom and persuasion. The same events that early on motivated me to go to medical school later motivated me to participate in politics. Clear memories of the horrors of World War II and the Korean War and the reports of loss of life of family, friends, and neighbors had an impact on me. I knew very early on I never wanted to carry a gun in a war and, with the draft in place, I realized the odds were overwhelming that I would be called up to serve. I definitely knew at an early age that I preferred a medical bag to a gun, healing to maiming, life to death. I'm sure all of your reasons to become physicians vary, but most young people deciding on the medical profession share the noble goals of promoting health, healing, and life. There are two short stories I want to tell, one medical, the other political and economic. First, when George Washington got a serious illness, the best physicians in the country were called in. Three of the best consulted and agreed that bloodletting was the treatment of choice, and the leeches were put in place. Washington's weakened condition that was the result of a serious respiratory infection promptly worsened and he soon died. (There was no malpractice lawsuit filed.) Good intentions and conventional wisdom were not helpful in saving the life of the father of our country. Medical care involves more than good intentions. Second, in 1620 the Pilgrims, under the guidance of Governor Radford, landed at Plymouth Rock. For the first two years the guiding principle was from each according to ability, to each according to need - and by force. Starvation ensued and the colony neared extinction. However, in the third year, Radford, in consultation with the adults of the community, agreed on a system of private plots and self-reliance. Results the next summer were astounding. Productivity shot up, and a community spirit of voluntary sharing replaced the harsh laws that guided the first two years. Freedom solved the problem of starvation. The second story reminds me of one of my early lectures in medical school. We were told that Kwashiorkor was the most common illness in the world, killing more persons than any other. Immediately, with delusions of grandeur, I dreamed of being the physician to find a cure for this devastating malady. But later in the lecture I learned that Kwashiorkor was a different kind of illness - it is the end result of starvation. Later it dawned on me that the solution to this problem was more political than medical. Because we in this country have enjoyed the benefits of the freest society ever known, true famine has never existed here. But a headline a few weeks ago read: Rickets on the rise in the U.S. I wondered at the time, could this be an early sign that something is wrong? Have we undergone a reversal back toward the philosophy that nearly destroyed the Plymouth colony? Currently the method of distribution of medical care in the United States is coming under attack by politicians, bureaucrats, hospitals, labs, service providers, doctors, and patients. More laws and more money are demanded from all quarters. But could it be possible that distribution of medical care is now being criticized because of a return to a system of government similar to the early rules of the Plymouth colony? Or is it possible that freedom combined with self-reliance no longer works? A basic understanding of economics helps one to understand why distribution of medical care today is becoming more difficult; quality is down while costs are

Anarchists plot medieval warfare at G8 summit

ANARCHISTS preparing to disrupt next months G8 summit in Genoa are threatening a seaborne assault of up to 4,000 protesters and a medieval-style attack using catapults and battering rams to smash through a ring of steel in the city centre.
The Italian hardline movement known as the Tute Bianche the White Overalls is using training camps in Milan and Genoa to teach its members how to fight police and to march in tight columns using homemade shields as protection from baton charges.
It said yesterday that British anarchists from the Wombles organisation were expected to be among up to 10,000 people who will try to force their way into the meeting.
The Tute Bianche intensified its plans after police in Gothenburg helped to keep rioters in check this month by placing metal freight containers around the Swedish city, stopping them from reaching the summit of EU leaders.
The anarchists are preparing to use battering rams to force their way past similar obstacles in Genoa and are building giant catapults to hurl objects such as dead fish and paint at police, according to the citys newspaper.
They will carry ammunition in wooden siege carts and will try to catch teargas canisters in large nets. They have been told to offset the effects of teargas with lemon juice on their faces and by washing their eyes with water.
Protesters have been trained in marching in turtle formation, a method used by the Romans, in which the front row of an advancing column raises its shields vertically while those behind hold them over their heads. Other training includes advice on how to remain calm and defence against baton charges, according to witnesses who have attended the camps.
Luca Mondo, one of the camp teachers, said: We will do whatever we have to to get into the summit and to stop it from happening. When the police start hitting us, we will go on pushing them and we will be enough to pass through. I believe the real violence will be by the police. Last weekend, at a lake near Milan, the group simulated an attack on Genoas port using canoes, rafts and tyres. There will be 3,000-4,000 of us in the water, Signor Mondo said.
The Tute Bianche is part of a coalition of more than 700 anti-G8 protest groups called the Genoa Social Forum, which is hoping that nearly 100,000 demonstrators will be in the city for the summit during July 20-22, compared with 20,000 who travelled to Gothenburg this month. Most protesters are expected to be peaceful. Demonstrations will begin with a protest by immigrants and will include sit-ins.
Up to 20,000 police and troops will be deployed, as opposed to 2,000 in Gothenburg. They will be backed by 15 helicopters, four aircraft and seven naval boats. The city will be closed to the outside world and separated into an inner red zone, off limits to demonstrators, and an outer yellow area, where they can hold protests.
There has been speculation that President Bush may be based on an aircraft carrier, but the White House said that it was looking at the possibility of staying in cruise ships provided by the Italian Government or in an hotel in the red zone. One reason for concern about security is the apparent lack of communication between the Centre Left city council, which welcomes the demonstrators, and the local prefetto, the Chief of Police appointed by the Interior Ministry. The council has virtually no role in the security preparations and the only public officials under its control who will be on the streets are the citys traffic wardens, who are permitted to carry guns but rarely use them. By contrast, the prefetto is responsible for the civil police as well as the carabinieri, a military division of the police that ultimately is accountable to the Defence Minister. The year-round subfreezing temperatures there holds the water prisoner in the form of ice. Water falls on Anarctica in the form of snow and sleet. Under normal conditions, it never gets warm enough for this frozen precipitation to melt and run off the land back into the ocean. It just remains there and piles up. The icecap gets thicker and thickerand heavier and heavier. When Admiral Byrd explored the Anarctic, he erected 80ft tall radio towers in order to have communications with the outside world. Many years later, during the International Geophysical Year explorations (1959), scientists found Byrd's radio towers were only 8 to 10 feet above the ice! Since then, those towers have been completely covered by the ice. This continual thickening of the Anarctic icecap poses a tremendous threat to the entire earth. And so it may be that the hidden purpose of intentional climate modification via HAARP-type technology is benevolent. However, since the earth's weather is a "closed system", when they modify the weather in one area of the earth, other areas are also affected. For instance, if you increase rainfall over one region, this will probably result in decreased rainfall over other regions. And sothere are unintentional side-effects. virus. Usually they rename notepad.exe to notepad.com and replaces
the notepad.exe with itself a file ~120K in size which acts as a

AS HITLER TIGHTENED his grip to create a Nazi dictatorship, why did Germans do little to stop him? Those Americans who have asked this question can now see the answer by looking in their bathroom mirror. The Clinton Administration, like a thief in the night 24 hours before Easter sunrise, staged a Gestapo-like raid with storm troopers in Miami, Florida. When most Americans learned of this, they shrugged. Some cheered, as anti-Semitic Germans did as they watched Jewish neighbors dragged away by Hitler's brownshirts. "Those aliens with their foreign ways had it coming."
At the home where six-year-old Elian Gonzalez slept peacefully, armored goons sprayed tear gas into the faces of women kneeling in prayer outside, clubbed one peaceful protestor into unconsciousness, and, without warning or warrant in hand, smashed in doors and entered while screaming threats and obscenities. One of the ClintonGore goons, victims recounted minutes later, was screaming "Gimme the fking boy or I'm gonna shoot!" Moments later an Associated Press photographer snapped the image of one storm trooper with his MP-5 submachine gun aimed at the terrified boy and the unarmed fisherman who five months earlier had rescued him. Welcome to Munich, 1938, and America, 2000.
What those automatic weapons and tactics reveal is that President Bill Clinton, advocate of gun control for the rest of us, was ready and willing to kill Elian and every member of his Miami family rather than wait two weeks and risk the boy winning a chance for freedom in the courts.
It was to preempt and deny Elian's legal rights to due process that this lunatic assault was made. The only danger posed to Elian and his physical and mental health has come from Janet Reno, Fidel Castro, and the Clinton Administration.
This is what it was like at the nightmare dawn of Nazi Germany six decades ago. Strong-arm thugs defying the law, the Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of appeals, and all human decency and morality. Within hours their atrocity is befogged with a cloud of government lies whose falsity is obvious to anybody with an IQ above 65. These orchestrated lies are parroted by the Leftist sock-puppets of the ruling national media. An instant poll released by the Castro News Network, CNN, proclaims that unidentified Americans by 57 percent applaud the government's brutality. The networks air Castro praising the pre-Easter human sacrifice of Elian to Caesar as a "Christian act"this from a dictator who has made free Christian worship a crime. The opposition parties that could have resisted the consolidating dictatorship mutter against the Nazis but seem paralyzed, unwilling or afraid to act.
Elian Gonzalez, screaming in terror, was whisked away in a government van. By arrangements put in motion even while the Clinton "Justice" Department pretended to negotiate in good faith, the terrified boy was carried by jet to Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C. Hours later, carefully posed propaganda photographs depicting a smiling Elian joyously reunited with his happy father are released to the press. Many noticed that the boy's hair seemed mysteriously longer than hours before, that in our digital age it is easy to fake a photograph, that a spot on his arm where a needle would be injected now sports a bandage, and that Elian's once-bright eyes looked glassy and lifeless.
No reporters are permitted to see the boy or videotape him, which might become evidence that Elian has been heavily drugged, zombized, or subjected to electro-shock or torture. (Only days earlier the United Nations Human Rights Commission reported that people in Cuba are now routinely being medically treated with mind-altering drugs and electro-shock if they manifest symptoms of "apathy to Socialism." The message to 11 million slaves in Cuba: smile enthusiastically when Massa Fidel tells you to, as Elian was shown doing in those mysterious propaganda still photos, or risk very severe consequences.) The Clinton Administration, ironically, has granted asylum to a young African girl fleeing genital mutilation at her parents' hands, but it refuses to give Elian asylum from the threat of brain mutilation in Castro's Cuba.

There's ample reason to believe Bill Clinton was working behind the scenes on engineering the initial Waco raid even before he became president. One of the original witnesses against the Branch Davidians was Bill Buford, the agent in charge of the Little Rock, Ark., branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Buford was, also, according to Arkansas sources, a friend of Bill. The Waco case was apparently very important to Buford as an affidavit states he was working on New Year's Day calling former Branch Davidians seeking to find evidence of sexual abuse. My friend and colleague, Andy Beal, who first explored the Little Rock connection to Waco, asks a good question: What was the resident agent in charge of the Little Rock office of the BATF doing investigating a sex abuse case in Texas? Is sex abuse BATF's jurisdiction? Is Texas under the jurisdiction of the BATF's Arkansas office? Documents show Buford is noted as one of two "senior raid planners." He was also one of the BATF agents wounded during the Feb. 28 assault, but he is perhaps the only BATF agent to be visited in the hospital by none other than top Treasury Department official Roger Altman. Altman was the long-time "Friend of Bill" appointed to be deputy secretary of the Treasury and chief executive officer of the Resolution Trust Corporation. He resigned in August 1994 due to his interference in the Whitewater investigation. At the time of the Waco raid, Roger Altman was the second highest-ranking official at the Department of the Treasury. The BATF is a bureau within the Treasury Department. Is it not possible -- is it not likely, knowing what we know about the character of the Clinton administration today -- that the Clinton transition team was involved in the planning of the initial raid on Waco even before taking power? Remember, Vincent Foster's wife claimed he blamed himself for the deaths in Waco. Webster Hubbell, who became the point man between the Justice Department and White House during the siege, was also instrumental in that transition to power. Then there's Altman and Buford. Foster, Hubbell, Altman and Buford were all in Little Rock leading up to the inauguration. Clinton takes power Jan. 20, 1993. One month later, the BATF stages the largest and most dramatic raid in its history -- videotaped in living color in anticipation of its success in subduing religious non-conformists in possession of illegal guns. The injustice and illegality of the initial raid has still never been fully examined. Today the focus is on how and why the remaining occupants of the church building were exterminated in a fire. Yet, the equally puzzling question of why a dynamic and violent entry was necessary to serve a search warrant on David Koresh shortly after he went target shooting with officers of the BATF. The local sheriff offered to serve the warrant at the general store to avoid any confrontation. There was simply no need for all the deadly theatrics of the initial raid. The only reasonable explanation seems to be the one proffered by the documentary, "Waco: Rules of Engagement," which postulates that the raid was intended as a public relations effort by the BATF and a commercial for stricter gun control enforcement. There are many unanswered questions when it comes to Waco. But maybe now it's time to start asking some of the unasked questions. What was the involvement in Waco planning of key Clinton White House officials even before they took power? Was the Waco raid, in fact, cooked up as a publicity and political stunt by an incoming administration itching for drama and action?
