Bug#756976: usermode: Two dialog boxes (one hidden) on errors with new password
Package: usermode Version: 1.109-1 Severity: normal Tags: upstream Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? I run userpasswd (eg with window manager xfce4 on Debian Wheezy) through Settings - Password menu from the desktop) and enter my old password. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I enter mismatched new passwords, or a new password that is too short. * What was the outcome of this action? There are two overlapping dialog boxes displayed. The top one looks like: Error Authenticating as user Sorry the passwords do not match. Cancel Clicking that Cancel button has no effect. The bottom dialog looks like: The password you typed is invalid. Please try again. Close Clicking that Close button dismisses both dialog boxes. However, that Close button is hidden under the top dialog box. Depending on the error message, the entire bottom dialog box could be hidden, which makes it hard for users to work out how to close the (top) dialog box they can see when its Cancel button has no effect. * What outcome did you expect instead? It would be much nicer if there was a single dialog box including an error message like Sorry the passwords do not match. Or at least have non- overlapping dialog boxes so both are visible. I have reproduced this problem on Debian 7 wheezy with XFCE4 (my main concern) and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with Unity. -- ___ David Keegel d...@cyber.com.auCyber IT Solutions Pty. Bug#754526: [BTS#754526] templates://mopidy/{mopidy.templates} : Final update for English review
Dear Debian maintainer, On Wednesday, July 16, 2014, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for mopidy. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the final proposed changes are attached to this update to the original bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading mopidy with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Thursday, August 07, 2014, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Thursday, August 28, 2014. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Friday, August 29, 2014, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- # These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english # team # # If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask # debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. # # Even minor modifications require translation updates and such # changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. Bug#756584: [ITR] templates://whatmaps/{templates}
Dear Debian maintainer, The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf templates used in whatmaps. This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with users and its aims are: - to improve the use of English in all debconf templates; - to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent; - to encourage more translations of templates. Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the distribution. The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and Debian translators. The details of the process are given in http://wiki.debian.org/I18n/SmithDebconfReviewProcess. I will act as the coordinator of this activity for whatmaps. The first step of the process is to review the debconf source template file(s) of whatmaps. This review will start on Thursday, August 07, 2014, or as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to carry out this process. All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration with you, and, unless you explicitly ask for it, no upload nor NMU will happen for whatmaps. If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so, and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle. Bug#756978: .tar-less push
Package: dgit Version: 0.21 Severity: wishlist Now that the archive finally supports .deb-less uploads, dgit should be able to take it a step further, to .tar-less push. I envision something like: dgit push --via somehost That would push the git repository as usual, then go to somehost and dgit clone, generate the source package, and feed its files and checksums back to the local dgit. The local dgit can then update the .dsc's checksums, update the .changes to contain the new .dsc checksum, sign the files, and scp both files to somehost. Finally, the dgit on somehost can dput the source package. The --via host would need to have dgit installed (probably), and should probably have the same version of dpkg-dev as the local host, to avoid skew issues (if the two hosts don't agree on the filenames that constitute the source package, dgit would probably need to give up). But it does *not* need to have the package's build deps installed, since only the source package is built there. -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#756659: aster: [hdf5 transition] please support hdf5 1.8.13 new packaging layout
Hi, Gilles Filippini a écrit : The hdf5 1.8.13 package in experimental features a new layout for headers and libraries, so that all the binary packages are now co-installable. Please find attached a patch proposal to support both the current and the new layouts. Because this bug is in the way of the hdf5 transition I intend to NMU in a few days. Package: ghostscript Version: 9.05~dfsg-8.1 Severity: important When I run ps2pdf on a PDF title that has a document info title (as generated by pdflatex), Ghostscript generates a PDF file with an Untitled XMP title, which is incorrect. This currently makes the PDF viewer of Firefox display Untitled as the title instead of the real title of the PDF file: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1031612 As XMP entries are regarded as the successor of the document info ones according to http://www.pdflib.com/knowledge-base/xmp-metadata/ they will tend to override the document info ones (unless the application is aware of this bug). Bug#756986: wheezy-pu: package debian-lan-config/0.13~bpo70+5
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal Tags: wheezy User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: pu Dear release managers! I would like to ask for the permission to upload and the inclusion of the latest debian-lan-config package in the upcoming wheezy point release. The debian-lan-config package is kind of special, as it contains no 'program' in itself, but instructions (in a FAI config space) on how to build a composed system within debian, cf. URL:https://wiki.debian.org/DebianLAN. The package did not make it for the wheezy freeze and I provided it via backports after the release. However, with further improvements, it got less and less justified to use backports, as the wheezy package is not a strict 'backport' of the version in jessie, which is of course targeted at jessie. Content and history of the package is available here: URL:http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/debian-lan.git/log/?h=wheezy The package should not pose any risk to the distribution, as it needs to be 'activated' manually to do anything at all. To get an idea, cf. URL:http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/debian-lan.git/tree/debian/README.Debian?h=wheezy. Bug#753589: systemd: missing pre-dependencies for runlevel(8) etc.
Policy says new Pre-Depends should be discussed on debian-devel so let's try that. (Please do not derail this thread into discussing whether systemd is a good thing or not, everyone is tired of that.) Quick summary of #753589 for debian-devel readers: Essential:yes packages are expected to provide their functionality while merely unpacked, even when not yet configured. The new init package is Essential:yes, and the functionality it represents includes sysvinit-compatible implementations of runlevel(8), shutdown(8), halt(8), telinit(8), poweroff(8) and reboot(8). At least runlevel(8) is actively used via invoke-rc.d in maintainer scripts, leading to #753589. (Side point: I'm also going to open a bug asking that invoke-rc.d stop trying to determine the runlevel under systemd, because it's rather meaningless. The same is probably true of Upstart.) init pre-depends on a sysv-compatible init implementation to provide those tools: sysvinit-core | systemd-sysv | upstart. This makes those tools transitively Essential, so they are also expected to function when merely unpacked. Under systemd-sysv, all of those tools are symlinks to /bin/systemctl. Michael's proposed patch is simple: diff --git a/debian/rules b/debian/rules ... +# the SysV compat tools (which are symlinks to systemctl) are quasi-essential +# so we add the depencencies of systemctl to Pre-Depends +# https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=753589 +override_dh_shlibdeps: + dh_shlibdeps -psystemd -- -dPre-Depends -edebian/systemd/bin/systemctl -dDepends + dh_shlibdeps --remaining-packages resulting in: Control files: lines which differ (wdiff format) Depends: libacl1 (= 2.2.51-8), libaudit1 (= 1:2.2.1), libblkid1 (= 2.17.2), [-libc6 (= 2.17),-] libcap2 (= 2.10), libcryptsetup4 (= 2:1.4.3), libdbus-1-3 (= 1.1.1), [-libgcrypt11 (= 1.5.1),-] libkmod2 (= 5~), [-liblzma5 (= 5.1.1alpha+20120614),-] libpam0g (= 0.99.7.1), libselinux1 (= 2.1.9), [-libsystemd-daemon0 (= 208-5),-] libsystemd-journal0 (= 208-5), libudev1 (= 189), libwrap0 (= 7.6-4~), libsystemd-login0 (= 208-5), util-linux (= 2.19.1-2), initscripts (= 2.88dsf-17), sysv-rc, udev, acl, adduser, libcap2-bin {+Pre-Depends: libc6 (= 2.17), libdbus-1-3 (= 1.0.2), libgcrypt11 (= 1.5.1), liblzma5 (= 5.1.1alpha+20120614), libselinux1 (= 2.0.65), libsystemd-daemon0 (= 208-5)+} Expanded dependency tree: libc6 is already quasi-Essential, via e.g. coreutils libdbus-1-3 Depends: libc6 (= 2.17) libgcrypt11 Depends: libc6 (= 2.15) libgcrypt11 Depends: libgpg-error0 (= 1.10), already satisfied in stable libgpg-error0 Depends: libc6 (= 2.14) liblzma5 Depends: libc6 (= 2.4), already satisfied in stable libselinux1 is already quasi-Essential, via coreutils libsystemd-daemon0 Depends: libc6 (= 2.8), already satisfied in stable Michael wrote: The Pre-Depends list is still a bit long. But I guess there is no way around to it. I don't think that list looks too bad: all the libraries added to it are quite self-contained. The only way I can see to reduce that list would be to reimplement the sysv compatibility tools as one or more separate binaries, in which case the question would be: how much of their functionality is Essential? I don't see any reason why it would be reasonable for a maintainer script to do anything with those tools except runlevel, telinit q, or telinit u. Bug#747229: cloud-utils requires qemu-img
Hi Thomas, However, I'm not sure that you really wanted to remove all of these dependencies: - gnupg, - python, - python-paramiko, - python-yaml, These are required by the ubuntu tools that I'm dropping from the package. - util-linux (= 2.17.2), This is still in the dependency list for the sub-package cloud-utils-image. Can you explain? Do you know why you ended up with a patch that doesn't apply on top of the 0002 one? Did you rebase the debian/unstable branch to upstream 0.27 before applying the patches? That's the only explanation I can come up with as to why the patches don't apply (cleanly). ...Juerg

Looking at the package's upload history, the first upload reached the archive a few weeks before the wheezy release, with the first upload to unstable being on the day of the release. That's really not the same as did not make it for the wheezy freeze, which had happened almost a year earlier. via backports after the release. However, with further improvements, it got less and less justified to use backports, as the wheezy package is not a strict 'backport' of the version in jessie, which is of course targeted at jessie. Given it's a configuration package, the diffstat of 66 files changed, 390 insertions(+), 245 deletions(-) doesn't look crazy for a backport. Reading the unstable changelog, I have to admit that I'm not sure why you're maintaining the backport as a separate branch and wonder how big the diff would be if one took the current package from testing and then applied the changes required for wheezy. Content and history of the package is available here: URL:http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/debian-lan.git/log/?h=wheezy The package should not pose any risk to the distribution, as it needs to be 'activated' manually to do anything at all. Hmm, I had already pondered about this when I saw the announcement. So, while I agree such option would make life easier for people that want to do “almost-source-only uploads” right now (because TBH the other alternatives are very annoying), on first thought this seemed to be a very non-generic and DAK specific option, and less useful if this is going to be a short temporary situation. But then there's (AFAICS) only two missing combinations in the tools, source+arch-dep and source+arch-indep, so I guess if I add both, then it keeps being quite generic. :) I'll try to include this for 1.17.11, which I'm planning to release RSN. Bug#756780: [Help] Need help for architecture specific code (Was: Bug#756780: bowtie: FTBFS almost everywhere)
Hi Ben, I recently updated the bowtie package in Debian to version 1.0.1. Unfortunately this package failed to build on most of the architectures in Debian. When discussion this issue I've got the following response which I would like to bring to your attention hereby. On Mon, Aug 04, 2014 at 04:34:17PM +0800, Paul Wise wrote: On Mon, Aug 4, 2014 at 3:48 PM, Andreas Tille wrote: third_party/cpuid.h No idea about this problem but here is what I could figure out based on the filename and the errors, using packages.d.o, codesearch.d.n and a quick look at wikipedia. third_party/cpuid.h looks like an outdated copy of the cpuid.h header from gcc, please ask upstream to remove it and just use the normal one. Do you have any specific reason to use this outdated copy of cpuid.h? The cpuid.h header seems to be only/mainly on x86 based platforms: https://packages.debian.org/search?arch=anysearchon=contentskeywords=cpuid.h If upstream was using autotools, they could detect if the header is present and only then enable the cpuid stuff. It might make sense to use autotools to create the makefile and by doing so simplify porting to different architectures. Do you intend to do something like this or would you appreciate help / patches to migrate to autotools? The bowtie2 package appears to only be available on *-amd64 (same issue I guess, some code seems similar): https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=bowtie2suite=unstable Looking at some valgrind code (thanks to codesearch) it seems you have to use popcntq on amd64 and popcnt on non-amd64 platforms. http://sources.debian.net/src/valgrind/latest/none/tests/amd64/sse4-64.c#L2039 This remark boils down to the question whether it might be possible to support bowtie2 also on other architectures. BTW, what is the difference between bowtie and bowtie2? Do we need both in the archive? This question was asked by a non-biologist and I personally do also not have any background in biology. I guess that bowtie2 is not fully replacing bowtie version 1 but it might be good to know your long term plans for both versions. Manoj Srivastava writes (Re: Bug#756123: chained implicit rule can fail to make a prerequisite [and 1 more messages]): In that case, I shall forward this bug report upstream, to see if we can get help in identifying the patch that fixed the issue (there ight not be a simpe set of commits that I might be able to backport, though). Even if we do find the fixes, we would still need to talk to the SRM team to see if this can be backported into stable. Right. I am prepared to try to properly debug this in 3.81, but I haven't ever looked at the code inside make so I would need some help for that to be a viable strategy. I could also bisect if there's a bisectable git history somewhere. I am traveling until Friday, and so will deal with this when I get back. Thanks. To be honest, while this bug seems pretty strange, I doubt it can be very critical in the grand scheme of things. From the point of view of a stable update, it might be better to leave everyone with the bugs they have rather than try to patch this - unless the fix is very very obviously correct. So I won't be upset if you don't want to put more effort into this bug. Regards, Ian. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#756456: Apply to debian fonts task force
Quoting Vasudev Kamath (2014-08-04 05:30:53) [at Bug#754926] There is a wishlist bug requesting to split it into families, I'm not sure if we really want to do it, It probably lead to one source containing 28+ binary packages!. Since upstream doesn't ship individual families still I thought of waiting. What do you think? If the source of all fonts bundled as fonts-noto is truly the same, then it makes good sense to me to continue redistribute in Debian as a single source package as we do now. If additionally the size of the bundle becomes 400+MB then it makes good sense to me to split into multiple binary packages. If, however, the upstream really is a bundling of sources actually developed elsewhere, then preferrably we should track those other sources directly - and eventually (if there is any benefit for Debian in doing so) keep the fonts-noto package as a metapackage pulling in all those other packages which together becomes same as what Google calls the noto bundle of fonts. In other words: I see no need to wait for upstream to split into multiple sub-parts - upstream may not have same needs as Debian for separation. - Jonas -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private signature.asc Description: signature

Package: buildbot Version: 0.8.8-1.1 Severity: wishlist The new version 0.8.9 is the last one in the 0.8 series and is probably a good choice for jessie. But if you look at the complete history in git, you'll see that there has been done a lot of work much earlier. I did not upload that work because wheezy was still a moving target and the package would not have worked without issues. The problem is, that it builds on the finished distribution and therefore has to wait for all ingredients being ready. (Comparable to the debian-edu-config package). via backports after the release. OK, in my experience the setup is very fragile and it's hard to oversee and test all modifications. Therefore, I chose the path to only cherry-pick stuff from testing and keep the well-tested core from the wheezy-version. (Comparable to the stable distribution where usually only bugs are fixed.) Concerning backports, I already had a discussion [1] about the issue; we agreed that it's better to use a point release for debian-lan. So I find myself caught between two stools now. [...] It's not a question of posing a risk, but rather what compelling reason there is to break the general policy of adding new packages to stable - particularly a package that was barely in the archive when stable released. I hope I could explain the reason why the upload happened late above. The situation in jessie looks slightly better (apart from the fact that the package is already in the archive now) and I hope all needed stuff is available before the freeze this time. However, it would be nice to have the package in wheezy too. On Mon, Aug 4, 2014 at 4:13 PM, Jonas Smedegaard d...@jones.dk wrote: If the source of all fonts bundled as fonts-noto is truly the same, then it makes good sense to me to continue redistribute in Debian as a single source package as we do now. If additionally the size of the bundle becomes 400+MB then it makes good sense to me to split into multiple binary packages. From Chang's description CJK variant itself is 400+MB and till now it was not merged into noto, But Chang's patch to merge it into main tarball has been accepted so not sure how large that will make resulting fonts-noto tarball. I don't think its done else where, every thing is done by Google itself but again I'm not completely sure I stopped monitoring the project for a while now. May be some one who is following the project closely can enlighten us. And regarding creating fonts-noto as meta package also sounds Good. In other words: I see no need to wait for upstream to split into multiple sub-parts - upstream may not have same needs as Debian for separation. Benno reported it already on mailing list. Do you mean the library path was changed between 6b27-1.12.6-1~deb7u1 and 6b31-1.13.3-1~deb7u1, as part of a security update in stable? It seems that after this update openjdk-6 doesn't search for JNI libs into the multiarch path anymore. Bug#757004: pyflakes: incorrectly tracks scope of vars defined in list comprehesions (for Python 3.X)

Bug#757005: User language selection doesn't work completely
Package: gdm3 Version: 3.12.2-2 Severity: normal Hi, I've got an up-to-date jessie system configured like this: alexander@shepard:~$ cat /etc/default/locale LANG=en_US.UTF8 alexander@shepard:~$ cat /var/lib/AccountsService/users/alexander [User] Language=de_DE.utf8 XSession=default SystemAccount=false alexander@shepard:~$ gsettings get org.gnome.system.locale region 'fr_FR.utf8' alexander@shepard:~$ I'd therefore expect to get a German interface with French formats when logging into my user account. However, this is what actually happens: alexander@shepard:~$ locale LANG=en_US.UTF8 LANGUAGE= LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF8 LC_NUMERIC=fr_FR.utf8 LC_TIME=fr_FR.utf8 LC_COLLATE=en_US.UTF8 LC_MONETARY=fr_FR.utf8 LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF8 LC_PAPER=fr_FR.utf8 LC_NAME=en_US.UTF8 LC_ADDRESS=en_US.UTF8 LC_TELEPHONE=en_US.UTF8 LC_MEASUREMENT=fr_FR.utf8 LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.UTF8 LC_ALL= alexander@shepard:~$ This kind of setup used to work in wheezy; I'm not entirely sure when it stopped working. I'm also not entirely sure if GDM is actually still responsible for setting the locale when a user logs in. If this isn't the case anymore, please reassign the bug accordingly.
