Bug#443942: Dependencies: please suggest tripwire; recommend wget|curl|links|elinks|lynx
Hi Moritz, Le mardi 25 septembre 2007 à 06:10 +0200, Moritz Naumann a écrit : rkhunter supports running tripwire (check for software intrusions) and so the package should suggest it. As far as I know, rkhunter does not support tripwire. In the upstream FAQ (section 3.1), it is recommended to run tripwire or any other file integrity checker if a file property check fails to avoid false positives. In addition to supporting wget (as mentioned in README.Debian) it also supports curl, links, elinks and lynx, according to upstreams' README.gz. As such, the latter should be listed as alsternatives to wget (and maybe README.Debian should be more clearly stating that wget is not the only option). Indeed, we forgot about this one! Will be updated in SVN and the changes will be part of the next upload. Thanks for this. Cheers, Julien

Bug#445554: /usr/sbin/newvserver: allow for unattended install
Hi Jochen On Sat, Oct 06, 2007 at 08:11:50PM +0100, Jochen Voss wrote: Package: vserver-debiantools Version: 0.4.1 Severity: wishlist File: /usr/sbin/newvserver Tags: patch [ Reportbug crashed on me while trying to send this the first time. I apologise, if you receive this twice. ] Only one bug. :) Hi, the appended patch modifies the newvserver script to allow for installs without answering any questions. This aim is achieved by implementing the following changes: - Default the time zone of the clients to the time zone of the host if avvailable. This allows to get rid of the tzselect questions. - Allow to optinally specify a debconf database to answer debconf questions during package installation. This is implemented with the help of the new DEBCONF_FILE_DB configuration variable. This allows to get rid of all the remaining questions in a standard Etch install, including the tasksel step. It would be nice if this patch could be incorporated into the upstream version of newvserver. I hope this helps, It sure does. Thanks a lot. Applied and uploaded. Bug#429226: Debian xmonad packages − please test
Hi, I have created Debian packages for xmonad, based on the 0.3 release. I will upload them to debian as soon as I get some positive feedback, so please test them. There are two binary packages: * xmonad contains the xmonad binary with the default configuration, as well as a wrapper in /usr/bin/xmonad that calls ~/.xmonad/xmonad instead, if it exists. * xmonad-rebuild contains the xmonad source and a script called xmonad-rebuild which will create a custom ~/.xmonad/xmonad if you have put your configuration in ~/.xmonad/config.hs It also comes with example configurations (contributions welcome) It does not yet contain XMonadContrib. dons mentioned that he had expected that directory to be present in the release tarballs, so when it appears in 0.4, it will also be in the source shipped with xmonad-rebuild and available for your custom configuration. Bug#439157: acknowledged by developer (closing no-bugs)
Quoting Martin Godisch ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): The original proposal was to use the de facto standard. Since then, discussions in -devel (thread starting at http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/09/msg00628.html) showed that using the Homepage: field in debian/control is already possible and should be promoted. I read your follow-up to that bug report as withdrawal of that bug report. Kind ofbut my suggestion was anyway to remove the homepage pention from where it is, also..:) - or use the new field If the de facto standard is a good one, please make it the official standard and announce the new field officially (Debian policy, d-d-a posting, dpkg manual, whatever). Then I'll happily adopt it, bug reports to all my packages aren't neccessary. This is underway: http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgHomepageFieldTransition I think that things are on their way enough for the change to happen. Several packages have already done this. Is there a reason, anyway, for this bug to be closed without explanations to the bug reporter? I don't consider closing no-bugs as a valid one, especially when no comments from you appears in the bug log. You're right, I'm sorry. No problem. Your answer is clear and respectful which I appreciate. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Hmm, the last upload of the package happened on 2007-07-01, that changed over to using taglib instead of the other code that we had for tag reading. taglib (in theory) should be giving me utf-8 and determining the character set of the tags for us. I'll need to set up a test set of tags and see if I can reproduce the issue, but it definately won't be in the gtk1 broken utf-8 handling (we never touch that chunk of code!). On Wed, Jul 18, 2007, Joe Drew wrote: dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libpango1.0-common_1.16.4-3_all.deb (--unpack): trying to overwrite `/etc/defoma/config', which is also in package gs-common This has been the case for a few days now. I don't see the bug on pango or gs-common, so I'm reporting it now. Sorry if it's a duplicate. I didn't receive similar reports nor confirmation from you on this bug; perhaps this was a temporary situation or a filesystem corruption on your side? Do you mind if I close the bug? You would be welcome to reopen it if you reproduce the bug. Bye, -- Loïc Minier

Bug#445651: posh: Conditional operator evaluates both arguments
Package: posh Version: 0.5.7 Severity: normal I'm in the process of implementing assignment/conditional operator support in dash. I noticed that posh/pdksh has an anomaly with the conditional operator in that both arguments seem to be evaluated. POSIX defers to ISO C on this which forbids the evaluation of both operators. For example, $ posh -c 'echo $((0 ? x = 3 : 4)); echo $x' 4 3 $ bash -c 'echo $((0 ? x = 3 : 4)); echo $x' 4 $ Putting brackets around x = 3 seems to fix it so this could be a parse error. Bug#445561: conky: wireless_* variables not working
tags 445561 + wishlist thanks Hello, On Sat, 06 Oct 2007, Marek Turnovec wrote: On page http://conky.sourceforge.net/variables.html I read about wireless_* variables, but none of them is working on my installation of conky from last version od Debian package. This is strange, because this page should contain (according the homepage of this program) variables from version 1.4.7. And Debian version is also 1.4.7... The Debian package is compiled with the default upstream options which does not include wireless, rss and other support as documented in README.Debian. Basically, I am not keen to increase the number of dependencies of this package. However, one could re-think this if there is enough demand for the wireless component of conky. One could also think of making a conky-heavy which contains all features compiled in. Please indicate what you think. Regards, Kapil. -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#432032: libpango1.0-0: Japanese characters rendered invisible

More digging in dpkg logs … I could not reproduce your bug wit dejava at size 1 or 30, with cairo or xft, with full or no hinting. I'm pretty sure this is font specific, so I would recommend you upgrade cairo, freetype, and your font package to the latest versions and try again whether you get the bug with dejavu. If you don't get it with dejavu, for example with: pango-view --backend=cairo --hinting=full --font=dejavu 1 -t 夏影 then I think it's a problem specific to your font, but I'm not sure who's to blame. Bug#445662: rkhunter: Improvments of the cron scripts
Package: rkhunter Version: 1.3.0-1 Severity: normal Hi, I suggest the following improments of the cron scripts: · In the daily script, you check for “! $NICE”, but you source the defaults config after this. I think better is something like this: . /etc/default/rkhunter if [ -z $NICE ]; then NICE=0 fi or to check for numbers: case $NICE in [0-9]|[01][0-9]) ;; *) NICE=0;; esac But I prefer the first one. · What do you check with “[ $(stat -c %s $OUTFILE) -ne 0 ]”? Is this the same as “[ -s $OUTFILE ]”? · (weekly script) Is it intended that the OUTFILE gets overwritten by the second call of rkhunter? Otherwise you should use this line: ($RKHUNTER --versioncheck; $RKHUNTER --update) 1/dev/null 2$OUTFILE or use in the second call. You can forget all about the messing up of the device special files. The problem is me mis-using the mdadm command and forgetting to put a name after the --create. So, it uses the first device name it finds, which is the name of one of the devices I want to make array out of, and messes up that device special file by turning it into a md device. Sorry for the trouble. However, the box did crash again, this time on the reboot command. This time it responded to the reset button. The console output was different, it crashed in a different way. It's is quite a pain to transcribe the console output so please let me know if you want these in the future. It may be that mucking up the device special file is what's causing the crash on halt/reboot. I suspect so. Package: dillo Version: 0.8.5-4.1 Severity: normal I'm using vnc4server (4.1.1+X4.3.0-21) on my etch system and noticed that dillo frequently crashes with the error message Gdk-ERROR **: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) serial 32418 error_code 9 request_code 53 minor_code 0 Gdk-ERROR **: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) serial 32419 error_code 9 request_code 55 minor_code 0 I tried to reproduce this on another etch machine but it did not occur in 10 minutes. When I started dillo from debian unstable chroot (while still using vnc4server on etch side) I managed to crash dillo in a few minutes by just browsing around. Bug#415366: kdevelop: Other navigation methods
Hello Andreas, thanks for your suggestions and sorry that I saw your answer so late. While I'm aware of other methods to navigate between files it's unfortunately not the same than the disappeared shortcuts. :-( For now I arranged myself with Next/Previous Window and reordering the tabs by using the middle mouse button. Are you sure the changes proposed on http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147134 solve this problem? It's not about the first or the last tab of a tab widget but about a stack of most recently used documents. Always when releasing the Alt key after using Alt+Up or Alt+Down the current window is put on top of the stack. With First/Last Accessed Window you can very easily toggle between two files by always pressing the same shortcut (Alt+Up) because the most recently used documents are always on top of the internal stack. No need to look where the files reside in the tabs nor if one file is before or after the other when cycling through the documents. That's very handy for example when editing a header file and it's corresponding implementation or when comparing something in two files. If it had been possible I had assigned the disappeared functionality to the shortcuts Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab since this is the shortcut which is quite standard on other systems ;-) for toggling between multiple documents in a multiple-document-interface (MDI). This would be very consistent with toggling between different applications by Alt+Tab and Alt+Shift+Tab. Unfortunately the keys Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab seem to be hardwired to the same functionality as Alt+Right respectively Alt+Left. I found no way to disable the default action and use it with First/Last Accessed Window in the past. If you have a hint for that I will try it as soon as a new KDevelop version with a fix for First/Last Accessed Window appears in the Debian unstable repository. By the way: Although I was very puzzled when I discovered that my most used keyboard shortcut didn't work anymore the important severity was a bit harsh in retrospect, sorry for that. Thank you very much again and keep up the good work. Best regards Stefan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The whole system doesn't get broken just because this particular package is a bit old. The goal was to awake mainteners... It seems to work. No it doesn't, I don't consider this bug serious and I merge it with two other bugs that were asking for new upstream. When you'll have your head in the build system and the hell dependencies, maybe you'll understand how a pain it is to package argouml. See the mdr license and source problem for example. As see with argouml developers, 0.24 is not compilable for now and there's no maintenance branch for it, only a unstable development branch. Can you envisage to drop argouml out of Debian ? The goal is to remove an outdated and obsolete package. Perhaps in few years we will have an argouml release that would be packagable. How does upstream build argouml when its not buildable according to you? Perhaps using icedtea for building will solve all issues. icedtea will (hopefully) be soon included in Debian. The development branch can be built, but it's not usable for packaging: http://argouml.tigris.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=devmsgNo=21295 The build issue for 0.24 can be fix using a part of the development branch (MDR) on which there's a license issue as Arnaud Vandyck said before. Then its perhaps best to file two bugs, one against ftp.debian.org to remove argouml from testing and another against argouml to prevent argouml from migrating into testing again. Then we can update argouml in unstable when its ready to do so. Cheers, Michael

I included this even for native packages...which could be debatable, though. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash diff -Nru dh-make-0.44/lib/debianb/control dh-make.new/lib/debianb/control --- dh-make-0.44/lib/debianb/control2007-01-08 00:19:08.0 +0100 +++ dh-make.new/lib/debianb/control 2007-10-07 19:58:16.078603784 +0200 @@ -4,6 +4,7 @@ Maintainer: #USERNAME# #EMAIL# Build-Depends: #BUILD_DEPS# Standards-Version: #POLICY# +Homepage: insert the upstream URL, if relevant Package: #PACKAGE# Architecture: any diff -Nru dh-make-0.44/lib/debiank/control dh-make.new/lib/debiank/control --- dh-make-0.44/lib/debiank/control2007-01-08 00:10:24.0 +0100 +++ dh-make.new/lib/debiank/control 2007-10-07 19:57:49.577093549 +0200 @@ -4,6 +4,7 @@ Maintainer: #USERNAME# #EMAIL# Build-Depends: #BUILD_DEPS# Standards-Version: #POLICY# +Homepage: insert the upstream URL, if relevant Package: #PACKAGE#-utils Architecture: any diff -Nru dh-make-0.44/lib/debianl/control dh-make.new/lib/debianl/control --- dh-make-0.44/lib/debianl/control2006-06-22 03:03:46.0 +0200 +++ dh-make.new/lib/debianl/control 2007-10-07 19:58:05.077976894 +0200 @@ -4,6 +4,7 @@ Build-Depends: #BUILD_DEPS# Standards-Version: #POLICY# Section: libs +Homepage: insert the upstream URL, if relevant Package: #PACKAGE#-dev Section: libdevel diff -Nru dh-make-0.44/lib/debianm/control dh-make.new/lib/debianm/control --- dh-make-0.44/lib/debianm/control2006-06-22 03:03:58.0 +0200 +++ dh-make.new/lib/debianm/control 2007-10-07 19:57:58.577606459 +0200 @@ -4,6 +4,7 @@ Maintainer: #USERNAME# #EMAIL# Build-Depends: #BUILD_DEPS# Standards-Version: #POLICY# +Homepage: insert the upstream URL, if relevant Package: #PACKAGE# Architecture: any diff -Nru dh-make-0.44/lib/debians/control dh-make.new/lib/debians/control --- dh-make-0.44/lib/debians/control2006-06-22 03:01:51.0 +0200 +++ dh-make.new/lib/debians/control 2007-10-07 19:58:11.578347329 +0200 @@ -4,6 +4,7 @@ Maintainer: #USERNAME# #EMAIL# Build-Depends: #BUILD_DEPS# Standards-Version: #POLICY# +Homepage: insert the upstream URL, if relevant Package: #PACKAGE# Architecture: any
Bug#445679: iceape: Typo in package description
Package: iceape-browser Version: 1.1.4-1 Severity: minor Tags: patch Hi, the package description of iceape-browser contains the acronym WYSIWIG which I do not know. Probably it should be WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get). Jens -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#445680: cyrus-imapd-2.2: mail lost: race condition with duplicates and shutdown?
Package: cyrus-imapd-2.2 Version: 2.2.13-13 Severity: normal This problem appears to involve data loss. A message was being delivered while the server was shutting down. It appears not to have been delivered, but when the server came back up there was an entry for it in the duplicates database. So the retry (by exim) was tossed. As a result, the mail was never saved by cyrus. I speculate that the problem is that a message's id goes into the duplicate database before the message is actually delivered. It would be safer to make the entry after delivery. It is possible the real problem is that cyrus did not fully commit the original transaction. I have a bdb backend. Bug#383802: gnu-efi amd64 already in
Julien BLACHE wrote: Eugen Dedu [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, If I understand correctly http://wiki.debian.org/MacBook#head-c01ca021c676fa6c705b7b67480d10fc689a050c debian amd64 cannot be installed on a MacBookPro, but i386 (with or without amd64 kernel). I would really love to use amd64 on it. This wiki entry is utterly wrong and misleading. You can install refit from refit.sf.net under OS X (and you'll need to anyway because you need to bless the refit binary otherwise the PROM won't boot it and still defaults to the OS X bootloader), do your partitioning from there too (a bit tricky, be careful), and use the gptsync feature from refit when you reboot (it's in the utilities offered by the bootloader at boot time - it'll save your life eventually). Another option is to boot a livecd of some kind, do your partitioning with parted, reboot, use gptsync from the refit menu at boot, boot the installer - you're done. So, sure, it's not straightforward at the moment. Note that the gptsync utility works on amd64 too - it doesn't depend on gnu-efi, so you can build it *BUT* you'll need a small patch otherwise it'll utterly fail. I've posted that patch in this bug, IIRC, otherwise I can dig it up. I don't know how well d-i copes with the machine, as I debootstraped my laptop instead of using the installer. Hi, I have finally succeed to install debian amd64 with the steps given at http://wiki.debian.org/MacBook#head-c01ca021c676fa6c705b7b67480d10fc689a050c The only problem was to cope with refit absence in amd64. (I did not used a live CD, only the debian one.) Thank you for your remarks and for your work. -- Eugen Dedu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
