Versuch mal Deinen Monitor auszumessen und in der Datei /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 oder XF86Config oder aehnlich (ich nehme an dass Du einen display manager/grafische Oberflaeche laufen laesst) unter der Section Monitor eine Zeile von Hand einzuflicken mit Breite und Hoehe in mm DisplaySize 325 243 Der Effekt kann erstaunlich sein und das ganze Schriftensystem auf die Beine stellen. Das tangiert aber nicht jedes Programm. Schade, das hat bei mir leider keine Auswirkungen gehabt. Gibt es noch eine Möglichkeit, die Schriften einzustellen? Bin für jeden Rat dankbar! Bei mir war es damals das Problem, das die ISDN Anlage uebers Netzwerk angesprochen werden sollte. Gut waer es gewesen, wenn man den Com-Port einfach haette freigeben koennen, geht ja aber nicht. Dann hatte ich mir ein Programm vorgestellt, welches (wie ich schon schrieb) die Daten am Server abfaengt, und an einen Client weitergibt. Wie soll denn das ganze bei eurem Programm funktioneren? Geplant ist folgendes: Es wird ein Kernelmodul geben, welches die serielle Schnittstelle emuliert. Dieses Modul kommuniziert mit einem Server, der wirklich eine serielle Schnittstelle besitzt. Da wir nicht vorhaben eine wirklich Portable Lösung zu schreiben ( zu aufwendig ) wird sich die Kommunikation an die Art und Weise anlehnen, wie Linux-Programme mit der seriellen Schnittstelle reden. Zum Beispiel muss die Software nicht wissen, ob wir gerade die Baudrate setzen, es genügt, dass es ein ioctl mit gewissen Parametern ist. Bei der Portierung auf Windows müsste man dann allerdings genau diese Informationen unterscheiden und auch generieren, was die Sache sehr schwierig macht ( und viel Linux Know How verlangt ). Ueberhaupt wuerde ich gern das Projekt verfolgen, wird der Quellcode frei verfuegbar sein? ja Gibts dazu ne HP oder ML? Noch nicht, ist eigentlich auch nicht geplant. Eigentlich interessiert sowas ja keinen :) Aber ich kann ja mal meine Mitstreiter befragen, eventuell opfern wir dafür etwas Zeit. Kannst du mich ueber neue Informationen benachrichtigen? Mini-PCI-Karte für WLan unter Debian
Hallo, hab hier ne WLan Mini-pci Karte für einen Toshiba Satellite. Der Chip ist Texas Instruments ACX 100 22Mbps Wireless Interface. In den Foren, die ich durchstöbert habe, gabs noch keine Unterstützung für den Chip. (die beiträge warn aber von 2002), deshalb meine Frage: Hat zufällig jemand diese Karte unter Debian zum laufen bekommen? Stammt aus einer MBO-Wireless-Lan PCI-Netzwerkarte (MBO wlan-PCI 2002). x2x nur 5 Minuten
Moin, ich hatte x2x installiert um mit einer Tastatur/Maus auf mehrere Rechner gleichzeitig zugreifen zu können. Zuerst funktioniert es sehr gut, die Maus lässt sich auf den anderen Screen schieben, die Tastatur 'folgt' ebenfalls. Nach wenigen Minuten jedoch geht es nicht mehr; x2x läuft aber noch, nur kann man auf den remote Bildschirm nicht mehr wechseln. Der Bildschirmschoner (den hatte ich zuerst im Verdacht) ist es nicht. Keine Festplatten mehr unter /dev/hd*
Hallo Leute, habe mir soeben einen neuen Kernel (2.4.21) erstellt. Sobald man diesen Kernel startet,bekommtman dann beim BootvorgangdieMeldung, dass die Root-Partition (/) nicht mehr vorhandenist. Ich habe dann selbst nach der Partition gesucht bzw. nach der Festplatte. Eigentlich sollte diese /dev/hda sein.Aber unter /dev/ fehlen alle Laufwerke! Diese Laufwerke sind nun in /dev/ide/bus0/target0/lun0/disk(oder so ähnlich ;-))Nun habe ichLilo so konfiguriert, dass die Root-Partition /dev/ide/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 ist.Nur so lässt sich dieser Kernel starten. Aber der alte Kernel erzeugt die notwendigen Einträge in /dev/. Ansonsten scheintalles super zu funktionieren. Kann mir das mal einer erklären? Schonmal vielen Dank im Vorraus! Probleme mit konsole nach kde update
Hallo, seit dem ich kde3.1 installiert habe, zeigt mutt die Pfeile beim Threading nicht mehr an. An deren stelle sehe ich nur 4-eckige kästen. Das gleiche habe ich auch wenn ich den mc starte. Dort besteht die Umrandung aus diesen Kästen. Woran mag das liegen ? -- --- Stellt euch nur vor, wieviel Angst erforderlich sein wird, um Menschen davon abzuhalten, Kopien von Dingen auf ihren Computern weiterzugeben. mal wieder X-Server
Moin allerseits, vorab erstmal sorry, falls diese Mail komisch formatiert ankommen sollte. Ich sitze hier an einer Notfall-Windows-Webmail-Kiste. Ich habe auf einem Athlon XP 2400 mit MSI Geforce Ti 4200 Debian Woody installiert. Nun soll auch noch X laufen. Läuft aber nicht... ;-( Ich bin nach der Anleitung auf http://channel.debian.de/faq/ch-confighw.html#s-nvidia vorgegangen, Kernel ist der 2.4.18-bf2.4 Die Installation verlaüft ohne Problem, doch startx bricht mit folgendem Fehler ab: Primary Device is: PCI 02:00:0 Assigning device section with no BusID to primary device No devices detected Fatal server error: No screens found Weitere Fehler sind in der log-Datei nicht zu finden Nachdem ich jetzt seit heute morgen rumgoogle und diverse Neuanläufe zur Installation gemacht habe, bin ich so langsam mit meinem Latein am Ende. Neuem Galeon fehlen Features
Hallo, der neue Galeon aus unstable sieht ja total schick aus. Allerdings fehlen mir zwei DInge, die ich total lieb gewonnen habe. Ich denke aber, daß sich einfach nur die Art der Konfiguration geändert hat und ich schlicht nicht weiß, wie ich das wieder hinbekomme. Also: 1. Der Pinsel, mit dem man die URL-Zeile löschen kann ist fort. :-( (Ich habe gesehen, daß es jetzt ein Plugin für Mozilla mit dieser Funktionalität gibt. Ich hab es zwar installiert bekomme den Pinsel aber auch im Mozilla nicht zu sehen. Kann es sein, daß der neue Galeon das gleiche Plugin benutzt und dieses generell nicht funktioniert?) 2. Ich habe mich sehr an die Tastenbelegung Ctrl-Pfeil-links = Back Ctrl-Pfeil-rechts = Next gewöhnt. Das funktioniert im neuen Galeon auch nicht mehr. Gibt es eine andere Testenkombination oder weiß jemand, wie man das konfigurieren kann. Man soll ja auch Mozilla (Firebird) diese ShortCuts beibringen können - bisher ist es mir jedoch nicht gelungen. Dies ist dann sinnvoll wenn man einzelne Pakete zum Beispiel nicht upgraden möchte. Dies ist dann nur durch den Eintrag des jeweiligen Paketes möglich. Mann braucht nicht alle anderen Pakete hoch zu setzen, da apt-get für nicht eingetragene Pakete automatisch von einer Prioritöt von 1000 ausgeht. Genauer stehts im apt-howto nachzulesen Eigendlich sollte jetzt ein ap-get upgrade funktionieren, habs noch nicht getestet, mach ich aber die Tage noch. Hallo, ich habe jetzt noch etwas ausprobiert. Tja die Karte hat wohl Probleme wenn es um NFS geht. Mit ssh habe ich gerade ein 40MB großes File _relativ_ Problemlos übertragen können. Die Verbindung ist zwar 3-4 mal abgebrochen aber es ging. Acha - das es unter M$ keine Probleme gibt brauche ich wohl nicht erzählen. Erstmal zum Lesestoff: Also mir haben die Manpages ausgereicht: man apt_preferences man apt-get man apt.conf So nun zu Preferences, auf einem meiner Systeme läuft woody, dort ist /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/default mit dem Inhalt APT::Default-Release woody ; Und dann schreibst du ein /etc/apt/preferences. Du solltest dir vorher allerdings mal anschauen ob nicht die Backports ordentliche APT-Repositories haben und auch Release Dateien zur Verfügung stellen (A.Bunk machts und ich glaube der gnome2.2 Backport von apt-get.org auch, kde3.1 ebenfalls). Diese kannst du dann in /var/lib/apt/lists einsehen (da gibts für jede sources.list-Zeile 2 Files - Packages + Release). Damit kann man wunderbar die Preferences aufbauen, z.B. indem man (für Bunk's Pakete): Package: * Pin: release o=bunk-1 Pin-Priority: 50 Das würde dafür sorgen, dass alle Pakete von A. Bunk nur installiert werden wenn es keine gleichnamigen gibt die installiert sind. Diese Laufwerke sind nun in /dev/ide/bus0/target0/lun0/disk(oder so ähnlich ;-)) Nun habe ich Lilo so konfiguriert, dass die Root-Partition /dev/ide/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 ist. Nur so lässt sich dieser Kernel starten. Aber der alte Kernel erzeugt die notwendigen Einträge in /dev/. Ansonsten scheint alles super zu funktionieren. Kann mir das mal einer erklären? Kann es sein, dass Dein alter Kernel die Optionen /dev file system support und Automatically mount at boot aktiviert hatte, und der neue die zweite oder beide Optionen nicht mehr hat? Suche mal nach den Einträgen mit CONFIG_DEVFS im Kernel .config File und vergleiche sie mit der Konfig des alten Kernels (sofern Du sie aufbewahrt hast...) Si tu veux être averti des tentatives de connection de l'extérieur, il faut installer le nids sur le firewall. Snort est le plus utilisé. Evites portsentry. Logcheck t'envoies par mail les logs qui en matchent pas des patterns à ignorer, c'est très utile. Tu peux utiliser ulogd qui gère spécifiquement les logs de netfilter, sinon ils sont stockés n'importe comment dans /var/log. A propos de snort, je l'ai utilisé pendant deux ans sur un serveur, finalement j'ai un peu réfléchi et me suis demandé à quoi ça sert vraiment, il envoie plein de logs sur des tentatives de connection pas très intéressantes. Quelques portscan, beaucoup de virus windows, quelques scans sur ssh, squid, etc. Les intrusions réussies sont en général des exploits récents sur des services pas mis à jour, et le pattern n'est pas dans snort. Je l'ai désinstallé quand il y a eu un trou de sécurité de snort lui-même. Si tu utilises snort, celui dans woody est beaucoup trop ancien. Si quelqu'un a déjà obtenu une information réellement intéressante à partir de snort ça m'intéresse ! Alain

Cê tem de instalar seu sistema primeiro e depois configurar o X usando o xf86config, uma ferramenta em modo texto.

Debian lilo won't boot Redhat
I got a system with Red Hat 9 preinstalled, booting with lilo. After making some space, I installed Debian (testing) on it. I thought it would be good to preserve the ability to boot into RH, so I mounted its partitions under /red in linux, and modified its lilo.conf to use these new paths. (That is, I created /etc/lilo.conf under Debian based on the lilo conf from RH). Surprisingly, I find I'm unable to start RH doing this. I get Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to the kernel (it is already getting that option). On the other hand, if I chroot to /red and run lilo -b /dev/fd0, I get something I can boot off. The most obvious difference between the two is that they use a different install= option (must be the same for all files in lilo.conf). Of course, lilo and the supporting programs are different too. I have not touched the initrd images RH generated. I have a problem with this list
I think that it used to be that when I posted to this list, my message would be returned to me from the server at the time that it was sent out to everyone else on the list. Now that is not happening. Now, when I post, I see nothing on the list, but my message is showing up in the archives. Which is the correct behavior of the list? I would like to see my message show up. The message in my inbox is a nice anchor for collecting replies. But if policy is to not echo the message, what is recommended as a way to collect in one place the replies to a request for advice? Sorry for the several test messages. I had a question about exim that I posted, and from my vantage point, it never showed up on the list (and I never got replies). I thought maybe I had messed up my email config while poking at the exim issue. Now I know that I'm simply not getting an echo of my message, but why? Have you added root to the passdb.tdb file yet? (smbpasswd -a root) This is necessary to be able to authenticate as root. You may need to change the root password (smbpasswd root) to match the real root password and you may need to enable root (smbpasswd -e root). I wish I could help you more, but all the Samba experience I have is from reading about it, I'm still saving money to build my Debian machine! :) --Daniel S.

Greetings fellow Debianites, Sorry, this may be a little long winded. For the past couple of days I have been trying off and on to get the ALSA drivers setup on my Woody box. The computer is a IBM Intellistation Z-Pro (6866-60U). Because I never had sound installed on this machine, I never had the SOUNDCORE module loaded as part of my kernel. When I started this venture I was using a custom kernel that I made to support my 5 disk SCSI RAID5 LVM disk setup. So I built a new kernel that had SOUNDCORE support in addition to my other needs. I have the 2.4.18 debian package source for woody. Ran: make mrproper make xconfig make-kpkg kernel-image When I built the kernel the Debian way, for some reason my network card (eepro100) could never get an IP address. So, I built the kernel the manual way. Ran: make mrproper make xconfig make dep make clean make bzImage make modules make modules_install This worked wonderfully and I didn't have to figure out what was going on with make-kpkg. So now I have a custom 2.4.18 kernel with SCSI+RAID5+LVM and now soundcore support as a module. When I installed the Debian packages for ALSA using dselect, I could not get it to configure properly with my sound card. I then went to alsa's site (http://www.alsa-project.org) and followed their directions to install the latest stable release 0.94 of the Driver, Library, Utilities, and Tools. Libasound1, libesd-alsa0, xmms, esound, some documentiation. Now when I launch XMMS as a user, trying to play a mp3 brings up the message: Please check that: 1. You have the correct output plug-in selected 2. No other programs is blocking the soundcard 3. Your soundcard is configured properly Now when I run XMMS as root, it works just fine, plays my music just fine. Is this a permissions issue with the sound card device(s)? If so, what is the best (read most secure) way to enable access for my user account? Any ideas why make-kpkg kernel-image does not work correctly with my Ethernet card? Thanks! I still didn't try it, but I've read on several places about the wondershaper, if traffic shaping is what you want (ie, control as in 'command', not as in 'observe'). If you only want to control (as in 'observe') your traffic, you can use SNMP with MRTG to generate nice graphs of the data passing through your network card (again, I haven't done that yet). (For a number of reasons, I switched to Mandrake for my desktop system and the problem doesn't occur there. The other thing to check is in your menu.lst It says: kernel /vmlinuz-2.2.20-idepci root=/dev/hda1 ro Is that where that kernel is or is it /boot/vmlinuz-2... ? I think that /vmlinuz is a symlink to /boot/vmlinuz-2...; so /vmlinuz might work, but I don't think what you have will work unless that is actually what is in / . Unfortunately my /boot is on my root partition here where I just tried this myself. If you think that your MBR settings, whatever those are, might be messed up, you could try installing grub on a floppy. I just did that on my system. First I ran update-grub after installing grub on the system. I edited /boot/grub/menu.lst which had root(hd0,0) to make it (hd0,2) since it is on /dev/hda3. The rest of it seemed fine. Then I ran 'grub-install /dev/fd0' with a floppy in the drive. So you would do 'grub-install --root-directory=/boot /dev/fd0' I think.
