Anyway - consider migrating from the mbox format to something else.

Open Printing has hesitantly placed it in the `paperweight' category.
And Epson doesn't appear to produce a driver for it.

ligne "session required pam_unix.so" du fichier

I concur. And it's only going to get more useful with each update as the
world's time gets more complicated. Especially if you happen to be in the
northwestern US, where half of the Boise and Portland metro areas will now
be off the other half by an hour half the year...

Do you ever need to convert the time and date in some distant time zone
to your local time or vice versa? The "date" command can do that for
you using that database.

Also, the database is updated (even in Stable) when jurisdictions make
changes such as moving the start and end dates for daylight savings
time.

It's tiny and useful. leave it alone.

It's the Olson database, needed for any application that will want

Does anyone know about this issue? Any hints to solve it? I could try a
different pop3 server?

I have no experience with popa3d but if it supports Maildir instead
of mbox format then you could start storing users' mails in Maildir
format. Maildir's one file per message approach usually provides
better performance, though you do end up with a lot of metadata
activity on the filesystem.

I don't think it can deal with the Maildir format. Thank you for sharing
this idea.

This limit is defined in the source of popa3d.

Thank you, that was a good hint.

ulf@deb10-p330:~/popa3d$ grep -r "#define MAX_MAILBOX_OPEN_BYTES" *
debian/README.Debian:#define MAX_MAILBOX_OPEN_BYTES 2
popa3d-1.0.3/params.h:#define MAX_MAILBOX_OPEN_BYTES 2147483647

I guess you have to recompile the package to change this.
But please consult README.Debian before.

Or (in my opinion the better solution) swicth to dovecot.

I installed dovecot but it didn't really work. Actually only with one
specific account, the one which produces this big mbox file. And I
couldn't figure out the reason.

So I recompiled popa3d and it seems to work now.

Thanks a lot.

gparted is "supposed to be on DVD-1"? It is actually and truly on DVD-1.
I know it is on DVD-1: you know it is on DVD-1; everyone knows it is on

Bonsoir,

Ubuntu:

https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2019-12881

Merci d'avance.

fibre problem with Intel 82571EB

2020-11-20 Thread Frank Weißer

Hi folks!
Situation:
Debian-Edu 10 Server with

eth0 NC(=unused)
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network
Connection (rev 02)
Subsystem: Fujitsu Technology Solutions 82566DM-2 Gigabit
Network Connection

Kernel driver in use: e1000e

eth1-4
eth1 NC
eth2 NC
eth3 flags=4163 mtu 1500

Controller (Fiber) (rev 06)

Subsystem: Intel Corporation PRO/1000 PF Quad Port Server Adapter
Kernel driver in use: e1000e

I can reach tjener via fibre cable and switch and use it with scp, smb
and so on.

But dhcp, bxe-boot and ltsp-clients don't work.

dhcp requests via
#dhclient eth4
need about 70 seconds to give me an ip. Network manager already gives up
in that time. Even connecting direct (with a media converter, not using
other fiber cables or switches) doesn't work.

So cable/switch don't seam to hurt.

How can I tell 82571EB to do its work?

If I switch eth4's address to eth0 (copper) everything works fine. So
services seem to be running

appreciating any answer

This has the potential to come up again and again :) If you _only_ install
from a DVD and have no network, then the medium is left as the only source in
/etc/apt/sources.list - the first cdrom line is still there because you have
nothing else.

[I only discovered this doing the last run of CD testing when Steve M.
happened to tell me why :) ]

You could:

Put the DVD .iso file on disk, loopback mount it and use apt-cdrom

You could download subsequent DVDs and do the same.

Or you can mount the DVD as someone else has suggested and do it that way.
Given no network on the final machine, I'd be most tempted to use a nearby
mirror and jigdo to make the 16G Jigdo image, dd that onto a stick and
use that.

All the very best, as ever,

Andy C.

As of my experience, th only solution is this:

Insert the flash.
# mkdir /media/usb0
# mount /dev/sdb /media/usb0 # (replace sdb with device node of your
flash)
# rm /media/cdrom
# ln -s usb0 /media/cdrom
# apt-get update
# apt-get install gparted

If i search "gparted" by
  https://cdimage-search.debian.org/
it says

  ...
  3. gparted_0.32.0-2_amd64.deb appears in:
...
debian-10.6.0-amd64-DVD-1 (list.gz | jigdo | iso)

So it is supposed to be on the USB flash drive.
How about writing an entry in
  /etc/apt/sources.list
for the mount point of your USB drive ?

  deb file:...path... buster main

I understand that the path after "file:" should point to the directory with
subdirectories ./dist and ./pool . That would be the root directory of
the mounted ISO on the stick.
Assumed that the USB drive is mounted at /mnt/iso i'd try:

  deb file:/mnt/iso buster main

If all works well, the request for DVD-1 should not appear any more.
A package from a DVD with higher number will pose the problem again.
In this case i would advise one of the ISOs "STICK16GB-1", "BD-1",
"DLBD-1" depending on how much the USB drive can take.

Have a nice day :)

Have a look there... or copy the contents here for review.

Note, que al

Gracias.

Hello Markos,

Lazy way: there are dedicated task-packages to facilitate this:

didier@hp-notebook14:~$ apt search task-chinese
En train de trier... Fait
Recherche en texte intégral... Fait
task-chinese-s/stable,now 3.53 all [installé]
  Simplified Chinese environment

task-chinese-s-desktop/stable,now 3.53 all [installé]
  Simplified Chinese desktop

task-chinese-s-kde-desktop/stable 3.53 all
  Simplified Chinese KDE Plasma desktop

task-chinese-t/stable,now 3.53 all [installé]
  Traditional Chinese environment

task-chinese-t-desktop/stable,now 3.53 all [installé]
  Traditional Chinese desktop

task-chinese-t-kde-desktop/stable 3.53 all
  Traditional Chinese KDE Plasma desktop

So, just install what you need (simplified or traditional, in console, KDE or
another Desktop Environment or Window Manager) , explore the menus of your X
environment to find the GUI tool that permit you to set-up how/when you want to
type chinese, and you are done :-)

Maybe the Installation Guide has more information:

https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/installmanual

Kind regards,

Re: How to write in Chinese

2020-11-20 Thread An Liu
HI

tbf the built-in Chinese input method is painful

i used to use ibus.el in emacs(but it is dead i think)
l

some minor problems i have
1. unless locale is set to Zh_CN.UTF-8 i cant type chinese under X,no
problem in Term though
i need to start emacs instant with LANG=zh_CN.utf8 emacs in bash if i dont
want to set system locale
2. Ctrl-Space (or Win-Space) might be conflict with input methods
change, make marks harder (use Ctrl-@)as alt
3. Latex is a little little but complex as you need CJK PACKAGE to make it
work

FYI

In a way, Fabrice is right: Emacs would solve one thorny
problem, that of the input method, which X leaves to a bunch
of strange and opinionated plugins. No idea how the Wayland
story is, in this department. Possibly you'll have to put
up with whatever Gnome or KDE have come up (gulp!) or perhaps
LibreOffice comes with its own thingy.

Emacs is yet another rabbit hole, but this one is at least
a bit closer than LaTeX: it offers a working fontset management
and an outstanding collection of input methods (I count 25
variants for Chinese in my Emacs instance, take that ;-P

No need to. GNU/Linux is decidedly multilingual :-)

I'm a big fan of LaTeX myself, but I fear this advise will send
the original poster down the wrong rabbit hole. Note how Markos
asked for tips on *typing* Chinese, not on *typesetting* Chinese?

And how he hinted at his familiarity with LibreOffice?

So I think what he needs is a suitable input method and suitable
display (and later perhaps print) fonts.

He'll need that anyway should he ever decide to go with LaTeX:
somehow the texts have to first go in :-)
