2008-06-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

As you can see in the image that I send in attachment, when I click in a menu,
in this case menu 'Aplicações' the icon of the console that I have in my
toolbar in the top of my screen, lights up as I hope you can see in the image...
Another, but related, bug is that when I click in a menu, ( like the situation
I talked about earlier) the deskbar-applet obtain the borders that might only
happen when I select it with the keyboard...

Sorry for my bad english.

By the way, my gnome panel version is 2.22.1.3, the deskbar-applet

[Bug 243646] Re: [Hardy] gdmsetup closes when launched

2008-06-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Re: [Bug 125734] Re: Firefox scrollbar doesn't use the infinite size usability effect

2008-06-28 Thread John Vivirito
AleksanderAdamowski wrote:
John, it seems I was wrong and this is indeed a GTK issue.

I've unpacked chrome files shipped with firefox-3.0 Ubuntu package and
tried to locate CSS border settings for main-window or browser or
 document, nothing significant was there.

Then I've noticed that the Firefox scrollbars correspond to the GTK
theme's scrollbars, they are even updated in real time if I switch GTK
 styles.

So it seems that Ubuntu Firefox's default theme is closely integrated
with GTK and it inherits GTK's problems. This would also explain why
installing a different theme (like Nick Welch did) fixes the problem -
3rd party themes aren't integrated with GTK.

I've tried verifying it in a different GTK application or even some QT,
but all apps I've tried have some ridiculous border added to the whole
document area (I've tested gedit, abiword, gnumeric, gnucash, oowriter,
oocalc, kedit, kword, konqueror). This is quite a problem, BTW, as this
severely impacts usability of a large group of basic apps.

kedit kword and konqueror dont use GTK. Your native desktop is kde# or
gnome or xfce?

Do you know any well-behaving application (apart from Firefox) that
doesn't create this useless border around its window that I could test
with? Or maybe this is the problem with GTK itself, not those
 applications?

I cant say as i am unable to reproduce this here in gnome. However if
you see it in all those apps you may see it in any browser you use.
Ubuntu-Mozilla-Team can you please try to reproduce this, I am unable to.

[Bug 243711] [NEW] use of backspace in rename edit box conflicts with menu shortcut

2008-06-28 Thread Patrick Byrne
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I reassigned the 'Open Parent' navigation shortcut to be 'Backspace', to
make it like windows explorer.

Unfortunately, this make it impossible to use backspace while editing a
file/dir name.

Expected: backspace in the edit box deletes the character behind the
cursor.

Got: nautilus does 'Open Parent', since it is mapped to 'Backspace'
shortcut.

I maintain that shortcuts should be disabled while the text edit widget
is active.

when I close a window that I open clicking on it. Its not logical. NO
ubuntu application does this by default.

Looking for examples?

The blue round pair of arrows that signals that you need to reboot the
machine. It's in front of me right now. I click on it, and it tells me
to reboot. I have NO WAY to make it disappear. Very cool. I can only
reboot my machine or keep the thing there forever. Closing the window
won't make the notice disappear.

And it is a notification, after all. As that is a notification area
the notice should disappear after I ack it. Instead, there is no way.

For normal applications, that are not just notices, like pidgin or
transmission, it's not even under question that the application should
quit when I close the window. Why? Because I can open the window
clicking on the icon, then the window is seen as *dependent* from the
icon. So how it is that I can open a window clicking on a symbol on the
screen, and then I can make the symbol on the screen disappear by
closing this dependent window?

Take the mixer, the network icon and so on. There is no other
application I can see installed by default, that shows a symbol in the
upper right corner of the screen, that exhibits the following behaviour:
1) click on the symbol 2) close the window that appears 3) see the
symbol disappear.

The only application that does this is rhythmbox. Please just
acknowledge this.

And now say that I am unpolite and I don't respect free software. I just
don't respect being mercyless ignored for months and years and having to
fork a package just for the sake of people I install ubuntu to.

[Bug 199088] Re: [Hardy] Message: Suspend Problem. Your computer failed to suspend

2008-06-28 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Oh, so it's a recorded sound... it sure sounds more like somethings
broken in my speakers. I think it is the same, but it seems it is
played a bit faster (and therefore also at a higher pitch) when it
indicates suspend failure.

This GNOME bug is about this sound:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406144 - quote Rickard Hughes:
It needs to be quite painful to listen to be able to be heard in a
laptop bag.

The real bug is of course that suspend does work, but is giving error
messages anyways.

[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit

2008-06-28 Thread bsolar
Vincenzo,

I understand your disappointment but I don't think the developers are
waiting for people to forget. This issue has been fixed upstream with a
trivial patch wich adds a gconf option, so the developers did do
something about this problem (even if it took a long battle for
this...).

What I wish to have is this patch backported to the current version of
rhythmbox shipped with ubuntu (I guess the version with the patch
included will not be available in ubuntu until the next release?). I
don't care if the default option stays the same as it is now (which is
wrong in my opinion but this has ben beaten to death and I'm tired of
it).

To be able to change the default behaviour via gconf is enough for me
and I guess for almost all the other people annoyed by this bug, so,
since the patch is obviously not dangerous, backporting it is a
reasonable solution, IMHO.

[Bug 115415] Re: the user has no information of internet availability

2008-06-28 Thread Motin
Looks like a good addition to the Ubuntu desktop!

Since version 0.7 most likely will be included in Intrepid
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/206463),
the best way to ensure that this is included in future releases would be
to rebase the patch against the 0.7 trunk and submit it upstreams.

Any volunteers?

Cheers!

Sorry that we could see some frustration building up over the bug's
status. As you can see, it has been confirmed, triagged and in
progress, which means you have indeed got some attention over this bug.
As bsolar points out, may be it needs to be backported to the existing
version in Hardy. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope this issue
gets fixed ASAP.

[Bug 236678] Re: nautilus does'nt thumbnail ogv files

2008-06-28 Thread Matt Zimmerman
I'm surprised to read that nautilus isn't expected to do this, as I see
thumbnails for .avi, .mp4 and .ogg videos. Renaming a .ogv to .ogg gets
the preview working for me.

I'm attaching an example screenshot. In this example, the .ogg and .ogv
are identical files, showing that the preview works if the file
extension is .ogg but not .ogv.

[Bug 243751] [NEW] closing the lid should suspend if and only if no external video is connected

2008-06-28 Thread Marius Gedminas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On laptops it's very convenient to have the laptop go to sleep when I
close the lid. However, when I connect an external monitor (or a TV) to
a laptop, I often want to close the lid so that the smaller internal
screen doesn't get in the way. Blanking the screen or going to sleep is
exactly what I don't want in those use cases.

g-p-m should offer me a choice to ignore lid events when there's an
external monitor connected to the laptop, and I'd even go as far as to
say this choice should be the default.

Use cases:

  * Bob is working on his laptop and needs to go somewhere. Bob closes
the lid, laptop goes to sleep.

  * Mary comes home with her nice small Asus EeePC, plugs in a large
external monitor, a USB keyboard and wants to close the laptop screen to
save power (or desk space). The laptop shouldn't go to sleep.

  * John wants to watch a movie on a large TV. He plugs the cables,
starts the movie, and closes the lid to avoid having an extra light
source showing the same (but much smaller) picture next to the TV.
The laptop shouldn't go to sleep.

[Bug 235326] Re: regular segfaults with .gvfs access

2008-06-28 Thread Craig
I've been experiencing the same problem for since the release of Ubuntu
8.04 and the fix mentioned at the top also didn't help me. I just want
to mention how I always experience the problem just in case it offers
some clues:

1. Make a Samba share on another server. Mine are unpublished i.e. you don't
see them when browsing the network, but you can cd and log into them after
which they become visible in Nautilus.
2. Use Gnome Commander to navigate via the ~/.gvfs directory to the samba
server and open a source code file in gedit.
3. Edit and save the file.

After a couple of saves at most you get a Transport endpoint is not connected
error and an ls -al of the .gvfs directory returns this:
d? ? ? ? ? ? .gvfs

In /var/log/messages you see this:
Jun 28 18:57:19 Green732 kernel: [ 8748.661968] gvfs-fuse-daemo[6048]: segfault
at 087a eip b7dec540 esp b740d0ac error 4

[Bug 163382] Re: Mlayer- wrong display of video

2008-06-28 Thread Tristan
I'm changing the status of this bug back to New because it still effects
Ubuntu 8.04 and I've located the cause.

The problem is not wrong display of video but wrong timing of audio.
Mplayer's libmad support is *known broken*. libmad fails to keep correct
time under mplayer when playing video with VBR MP3 audio. See
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-
eng/2008-January/055849.html for more details.

This is a bug with Ubuntu's mplayer package as mplayer does not default
to libmad for decoding! Mplayer upstream defaults to mp3lib, which does
not exhibit this problem.

[Bug 243807] [NEW] File Roller 2.23.3 Wont Extract

2008-06-28 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

I'm on Intrepid Alpha 1. In file roller there is a bug with not
extracting specific files. Replication steps

1. I have a zip file that contains the Elementary Icons that I downloaded from
gnome look
(http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Elementary+Icons?content=73439)
2. On the user's desktop directory, double click the file to open up file roller
3. Within file roller zip file, move into the elementary directory
4. Only select the Elementary_1.8.1b.tar.gz file
5. Select extract to the default current directory being the user's Desktop
6. Observe file roller close and no extraction take place

Work around is to extract the whole file and tidy it up from there.

[Bug 188639] Re: laptop will not sleep after idle time

2008-06-28 Thread Adam Fabian
I have a Dell Inspiron 1420N running Hardy with the security and and recommended
repositories enabled, with those packages installed (Up to 26 June 2008).

My computer is able to suspend and hibernate when I do it manually. When I use
gnome-power-preferences, and set the time to put the computer to sleep when
inactive, the computer does not sleep after that amount of time has elapsed.
Some kind of event does seem to be generated, but the computer does not sleep.

Attached is output from gnome-power-manager run as --verbose --no-daemon (the
text of this bug report is included at the top) and left until the inactive
timeout (after killing the normally running instance of gnome-power-manager.)

Incidentally, sleep and inactive are both ambiguous. When is the computer
inactive? Is sleep suspend or hibernate? But I should probably use a
separate bug report for ambiguous wording.

[Bug 233794] Re: [Hardy] gnome preferred applications for multimedia doesn't fully accept custom setting

2008-06-28 Thread dodmo
WorkAround

Warning: I am a total noob with Linux - This is what I did... try it at
your own risk.

Find file /etc/gnome/defaults.list.
open it for editing as root. (terminal - sudo gedit)
Find these lines:
x-content/audio-cdda=rhythmbox.desktop
x-content/audio-dvd=rhythmbox.desktop
x-content/audio-player=rhythmbox.desktop
Change the line(s) that is (are) relevant to your needs. Mine looks like this.
x-content/audio-cdda=grip.desktop
x-content/audio-dvd=rhythmbox.desktop
x-content/audio-player=rhythmbox.desktop
It works for me.

[Bug 243848] [NEW] [Xubuntu Hardy] the launcher icon of gnome-power-preferences is not shown in the menu

2008-06-28 Thread Toshio Ito
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Xubuntu 8.04 Hardy
gnome-power-manager: 2.22.1-1ubuntu4
xfce4: 4.4.2

In Xubuntu, gnome-power-manager is automatically started by default.
Although I can configure it by typing
 $ gnome-power-preferences
in Terminal, the corresponding launcher icon is missing in the application menu.

I suspect this is because
/usr/share/applications/gnome-power-preferences.desktop contains
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;

I wish the line was OnlyShowIn=GNOME;XFCE; or something so that the
launcher would appear in the menu.

[Bug 243854] [NEW] evolution email labels disappear

2008-06-28 Thread CTenorman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

For a reason I can't determine, all the emails in my Evolution Action
folder have lost their labels. I am not aware of having done anything to
cause this, and couldn't find a similar bug or problem that anyone else
is having. I'm happy to help however I can. All the best,

Scott

[Bug 243857] [NEW] New task/memo entry bar can disappear when scrolling list

2008-06-28 Thread CTenorman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When scrolling down the task/memo list in Evolution, the entry bar for
new tasks disappears. One might decide to enter a new item while looking
at another item down the list, and would have to scroll all the way to
the top to do so. Ideally, the entry bar for new tasks/memos should
always be visible at the top, no matter how far down the list is
scrolled.
