[Bug 243646] Re: [Hardy] gdmsetup closes when launched
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Re: [Bug 125734] Re: Firefox scrollbar doesn't use the infinite size usability effect
AleksanderAdamowski wrote: John, it seems I was wrong and this is indeed a GTK issue. I've unpacked chrome files shipped with firefox-3.0 Ubuntu package and tried to locate CSS border settings for main-window or browser or document, nothing significant was there. Then I've noticed that the Firefox scrollbars correspond to the GTK theme's scrollbars, they are even updated in real time if I switch GTK styles. So it seems that Ubuntu Firefox's default theme is closely integrated with GTK and it inherits GTK's problems. This would also explain why installing a different theme (like Nick Welch did) fixes the problem - 3rd party themes aren't integrated with GTK. I've tried verifying it in a different GTK application or even some QT, but all apps I've tried have some ridiculous border added to the whole document area (I've tested gedit, abiword, gnumeric, gnucash, oowriter, oocalc, kedit, kword, konqueror). This is quite a problem, BTW, as this severely impacts usability of a large group of basic apps. kedit kword and konqueror dont use GTK. Your native desktop is kde# or gnome or xfce? Do you know any well-behaving application (apart from Firefox) that doesn't create this useless border around its window that I could test with? Or maybe this is the problem with GTK itself, not those applications? I cant say as i am unable to reproduce this here in gnome. However if you see it in all those apps you may see it in any browser you use. Re: [Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit
Il giorno sab, 28/06/2008 alle 04.14 +, Ian ha scritto: I should be consistent like every other popular music app on Linux Amarok, Listen, Banshee... it should close to the tray icon. It *does* seem to me like developers are just waiting for people to forget this. Just asking for a stupid option is not enough. It seems that the only viable alternative is a fork. I will not do this anyway, because I have better things to do. However I can't but notice the lack of any will to dialogue with users. In ubuntu we have transmission and pidgin installed by default. They make a certain use of the notification area. Then, we have rhythmbox. It makes a different use of the notification area. Nobody wants to comment on this except for saying things are not going to change. I personally don't see why I should see a notification icon disappear when I close a window that I open clicking on it. Its not logical. NO ubuntu application does this by default. Looking for examples? The blue round pair of arrows that signals that you need to reboot the machine. It's in front of me right now. I click on it, and it tells me to reboot. I have NO WAY to make it disappear. Very cool. I can only reboot my machine or keep the thing there forever. Closing the window won't make the notice disappear. And it is a notification, after all. As that is a notification area the notice should disappear after I ack it. Instead, there is no way. For normal applications, that are not just notices, like pidgin or transmission, it's not even under question that the application should quit when I close the window. Why? Because I can open the window clicking on the icon, then the window is seen as *dependent* from the icon. So how it is that I can open a window clicking on a symbol on the screen, and then I can make the symbol on the screen disappear by closing this dependent window? Take the mixer, the network icon and so on. There is no other application I can see installed by default, that shows a symbol in the upper right corner of the screen, that exhibits the following behaviour: 1) click on the symbol 2) close the window that appears 3) see the symbol disappear. The only application that does this is rhythmbox. Please just acknowledge this. And now say that I am unpolite and I don't respect free software. I just don't respect being mercyless ignored for months and years and having to fork a package just for the sake of people I install ubuntu to. -- Window close should close, not quit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/38512 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit
Vincenzo, I understand your disappointment but I don't think the developers are waiting for people to forget. This issue has been fixed upstream with a trivial patch wich adds a gconf option, so the developers did do something about this problem (even if it took a long battle for this...). What I wish to have is this patch backported to the current version of rhythmbox shipped with ubuntu (I guess the version with the patch included will not be available in ubuntu until the next release?). I don't care if the default option stays the same as it is now (which is wrong in my opinion but this has ben beaten to death and I'm tired of it). To be able to change the default behaviour via gconf is enough for me and I guess for almost all the other people annoyed by this bug, so, since the patch is obviously not dangerous, backporting it is a reasonable solution, IMHO. -- Window close should close, not quit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/38512 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

In this example, the .ogg and .ogv are identical files, showing that the preview works if the file extension is .ogg but not .ogv. ** Attachment added: Screenshot-Videos - File Browser.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15662171/Screenshot-Videos%20-%20File%20Browser.png -- nautilus does'nt thumbnail ogv files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 243751] [NEW] closing the lid should suspend if and only if no external video is connected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager On laptops it's very convenient to have the laptop go to sleep when I close the lid. However, when I connect an external monitor (or a TV) to a laptop, I often want to close the lid so that the smaller internal screen doesn't get in the way. Blanking the screen or going to sleep is exactly what I don't want in those use cases. g-p-m should offer me a choice to ignore lid events when there's an external monitor connected to the laptop, and I'd even go as far as to say this choice should be the default. Use cases: * Bob is working on his laptop and needs to go somewhere. Bob closes the lid, laptop goes to sleep. * Mary comes home with her nice small Asus EeePC, plugs in a large external monitor, a USB keyboard and wants to close the laptop screen to save power (or desk space). The laptop shouldn't go to sleep. * John wants to watch a movie on a large TV. He plugs the cables, starts the movie, and closes the lid to avoid having an extra light source showing the same (but much smaller) picture next to the TV. The laptop shouldn't go to sleep. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- closing the lid should suspend if and only if no external video is connected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/243751 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I've been experiencing the same problem for since the release of Ubuntu 8.04 and the fix mentioned at the top also didn't help me. Use Gnome Commander to navigate via the ~/.gvfs directory to the samba server and open a source code file in gedit. 3. Edit and save the file. [Bug 188639] Re: laptop will not sleep after idle time
I have a Dell Inspiron 1420N running Hardy with the security and and recommended repositories enabled, with those packages installed (Up to 26 June 2008). My computer is able to suspend and hibernate when I do it manually. When I use gnome-power-preferences, and set the time to put the computer to sleep when inactive, the computer does not sleep after that amount of time has elapsed. Some kind of event does seem to be generated, but the computer does not sleep. Attached is output from gnome-power-manager run as --verbose --no-daemon (the text of this bug report is included at the top) and left until the inactive timeout (after killing the normally running instance of gnome-power-manager.) Incidentally, sleep and inactive are both ambiguous. When is the computer inactive? Is sleep suspend or hibernate? But I should probably use a separate bug report for ambiguous wording. ** Attachment added: afabian-gpm-bug.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15667060/afabian-gpm-bug.txt -- laptop will not sleep after idle time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/188639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
