[Bug 441982] [NEW] Totem don't play video with subtitles in certain conditions

2009-10-04 Thread Everaldo Canuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

On Ubuntu 9.10 Totem freezes when play video with subtitle, it only
freezes when you use nautilus to open video or if you pass file name as
parameter when call Totem.

When you call (theres a video.srt on same dir):

# totem video.avi

Totem open, freezes and you got this message on terminal:

(totem:6021): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: value 10752000 of type `guint'
is invalid or out of range for property `connection-speed' of type
`guint'

If you open Totem without any parameter and them go to menu and open same video
everything works well, it also works well if you delete the subtitle . So, the
problem looks to happens only when you have two conditions: subtitles and pass
filename as parameter.

[Bug 441998] [NEW] Cannot browse through pictures using Next button

2009-10-04 Thread Dan Andreșan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to a folder with multiple pictures (at least three)
2. Click on the 1st one, Eye of Gnome will open with that picture.
3. Click on Next and DO NOT MOVE THE MOUSE
The second picture will appear and the Next button looks like unselected
4. WITHOUT MOVING THE MOUSE click on Next
... Nothing happens ... instead of third picture being displayed
5. Move mouse a little bit and Next button looks like selected again
6. Click on Next
The third pictures appears.

So instead of browsing: Click, Click, Click
I need to Click, Move mouse, Click, Move mouse, Click, etc.

I propose it as a regression (I don't remember seeing it before) and as a
paper-cut.
Please ask for any more info and I will quickly provide the info needed. Thanks.

[Bug 411322] Re: desktop icon position of symbolic links are not restored

2009-10-04 Thread Jan Mynarik
I have the same gvfs* packages with same versions.

Although, I remember doing one thing before ... I removed metadata information
about Desktop from ~/.nautilus/metafiles. I did this:
cd ~/.nautilus/metafiles
find | grep Desktop.xml
...and removed that file and restarted nautilus (relogin or killall nautilus)

But I'm not sure this is the solution.

[Bug 290703] Re: ssh connection should open the user directory by default

2009-10-04 Thread Mikko Ohtamaa
Patrick I see your viewpoint, but there is little more depth in this issue.
As far as I know SFTP is recommended by Ubuntu as a secure method to put files
to the server. It is very visible in the default setup of the system.
Alternatives like FTP and WebDAV surely aren't better... so it is basically
drawing a like what's Average Joe and what's not - I see remote copying of
files as normal task which you might encounter in your studies and at least in
your company work.

But this indeed does not matter. Hints how to solve this bug SFTP and
GVFS are welcome. If it's just few simple lines I could probably patch
it together.

[Bug 442070] [NEW] incorrect visualization of mpg video captured from DVB-S card

2009-10-04 Thread ubuntista
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem does not well visualize any of my several .mpg video that are recordings
from a DVB-S card (Skystar 2).
The effect is like meaningless bix pixells the sound is good.
The files are MPEG2 transport streams.

Other considerations:
VLC 1.02 in Karmic beta works well on these files (previous versions of VLC
doesn't) .

The problem could be in the Gstreamer framework because the same exact problem
happens with Moovida and Pitivi applications that also use Gstreamer.

A video editor named Openshot that instead use the MLT framework works
well on the same files.

[Bug 290703] Re: ssh connection should open the user directory by default

2009-10-04 Thread Mikko Ohtamaa
Actually the bug is not as simple as you might think.

It would be trivial to fix Nautilus/GVFS to map the URL
sftp://mi...@something.com to sftp://mi...@something.com/home/mikko.

However this violates the URI specification RFC r3986 as discussed in
the upstream https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=561998

sftp://mi...@something.com

should be same as

sftp://mi...@something.com/

which is effective the server root folder.

Command-line SFTP does not respect URI specification in the first place.

The suggested fix was to have sftp://mi...@something.com to do a SFTP
specific redirect to sftp://mi...@something.com/home/mikko.

[Bug 442077] [NEW] [karmic] clicking twice on a GtkCheckButton does nothing

2009-10-04 Thread Micha Moskovic
Public bug reported:

What happens:
Clicking on a GtkCheckButton toggles the button, but clicking a second time (or
a third, a fourth…) doesn’t toggle it again. In order to toggle the button a
second time, you have to leave the widget with the pointer. Pressing the space
key toggles the button every time, so the problem is only with clicking.

Expected result:
Clicking on a GtkCheckButton should toggle the button every time.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a Gtk window with a GtkCheckButton
2. Click on it, the button is toggled
3. Click on it a second time without leaving the widget, nothing happens

[Bug 442084] [NEW] Accessing a panel's properties menu can be needlessly difficult

2009-10-04 Thread Michael
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The GNOME Documentation Library says, To modify the properties of a
panel, right-click on a vacant space on the panel, then choose
Properties.. Now that would be fine if you could guarantee that there
is vacant space somewhere on a panel. :P

If the panel's hide buttons and expand mode are both turned off, then
even deleting items from the panel may not expose any vacant space!

I feel that the panel properties ought to be accessible from each
applet's context menu.

if so, maybe we could just use that. (It is open source, after all.)

What always bothered me about services-admin is that it wasn't
comprehensive. It was hard-coded for some particular services, rather
than providing a general interface for manipulating any services the
user may have installed. I hope its replacement is more general.

[Bug 442115] [NEW] Greeter always defaults to USA keyboard layout, ignoring system configuration

2009-10-04 Thread Max Bowsher
Public bug reported:

My system keyboard layout as defined in /etc/default/console-setup is

[Bug 441828] Re: System Monitor ignores close request and uses 100% of one core

2009-10-04 Thread paniq
Chris, you are a magician! :)

That's it. There has indeed been a lot of activity with the session
monitor, which seems to be drive related - there has been an audio CD in
the drive.

When I removed the CD (and put it back in!), the issue went away. I
couldn't reproduce the bug again. The CD has to be in the drive when the
system boots, and the bug occurs only once.

[Bug 442130] [NEW] Custom fstab causes duplicate entries for partitions in Places

2009-10-04 Thread Martin Lindhe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I wanted my disks to automount on startup, but I didnt want to address them
directly with device path, since it can change.
So instead i use the LABEL directive.
Now each partition is listed twice in Nautilus Places (see screenshot).

According to a post on ubuntuforums, this issue can also happen if you identify
partitions by UUID:

A workaround is to specify the partitions by /dev/sdXXX paths instead

Actual:
Sound effects are heard at full volume

Steps to reproduce:
Install a fresh system / boot from live CD. Open firefox open two or more

[Bug 442148] [NEW] too long default delay before suspending screen

2009-10-04 Thread Jérôme
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I saw that the screen will be suspended after 30 minutes of inactivity.

I think this delay is too long even when operating on main supply.

This make the end user pay too much money for electricity. Moreover it
pollutes too much since electricity production is generating nuclear
wastes or greenhouse effect gases.

Maybe 10 minutes would be a good tradeoff.

[Bug 435035] Re: rhythymbox doesn't play cds (No URI handler implemented for cdda)

2009-10-04 Thread jolo
@Martin Meyer, I think the libraries you mentioned are the problem. I
did check the libraries in Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 5

j...@athlonxp:~$ find /usr -name libgstcdda*

/usr/lib/libgstcdda-0.10.so.0.17.0

/usr/lib/libgstcdda-0.10.so.0

Rhythymbox is able to play audio cds. Synaptic shows
libgstreamer-plugin-base0.10-0 0.10.24-1.
If I only update this in Synaptic to libgstreamer-plugin-base0.10-0 0.10.24-3

j...@athlonxp:~$ find /usr -name libgstcdda*

/usr/lib/libgstcdda-0.10.so.0.18.0

/usr/lib/libgstcdda-0.10.so.0

Then Rhythymbox doesn't play audio cds anymore: 'No URI handler
implemented for cdda.

[Bug 442163] [NEW] Dell Inspiron 510m freezes when lid is closed

2009-10-04 Thread vilbara
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Regression bug in 9.10 beta. Dell Inspiron 510m freezes when lid is
closed. It worked fine on previous ubuntu versions.

I assume this is not a problem with suspend, but rather key/event
handling. Suspend works fine if I press suspend key combination
(Fn+Esc) on keyboard. However, closing notebook lid always freezes the
notebook and I have to switch it off the hard way (press power button
and keep holding it).

This bug is especially annoying when I start shutdown sequence and then
close the lid before notebook is switched off.

[Bug 411322] Re: desktop icon position of symbolic links are not restored

2009-10-04 Thread Chris Coulson
Guys, this won't be fixed yet as the fixed version has not yet been
released in Ubuntu. The bug status is Fix Committed, which means a fix
has been committed somewhere, but it hasn't been released yet. In this
case, the fix has been committed in GIT upstream, and will shortly end
up in Ubuntu either when upstream roll a new tarball or we cherry-pick
the patch for our current version. When this happens, the bug will be
closed as Fix Released

Sorry, I was wrong. It looks for covers, but not for all. For example,
it can get cover for Deerhunter, but not for Placebo Meds or Radiohead
Kid A. So strange. I mean Placebo or Radiohead much more popular than
Deerhunter or Dosh. I'am not sure there is no covers in discogs for
them.

[Bug 442205] [NEW] Cannot click on toggle buttons more than once without moving mouse in between

2009-10-04 Thread Martin Meredith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Just tried to play an mp3 in Rhythmbox. I had to talk to someone, so
clicked the play button to pause it.

Without moving my mouse, I tried clicking on this again, but it would
not work, If I move the mouse and click on the button, it does.

This also happens when clicking play, and trying to pause.

I think this might be related to it being a toggle button, as this
also happens for the other buttons (home, shuffle etc), but does not
happen for the next and back buttons.

[Bug 351122] Re: gthumb doesn't work with gphoto (was please disable gphoto2 backend for Jaunty)

2009-10-04 Thread Martin G Miller
I have a Canon SD 550 which Ubuntu recognizes by its European name,
Digital Ixus 750 (PTP mode). I did experience this bug for a while, but
it has been working correctly for some time now in Jaunty.

The problem is a regression in 32 bit Karmic alpha 6. I have to unmount
the camera from the desktop before importing the pictures with gthumb or
I get the device locked... dialog. It does work correctly if I try to
use Fspot as the import tool, but I don't use that app to manage my
pictures.

I am currently downloading the Karmic 32 bit desktop beta and will try
that to see if the regression has been resolved.

[Bug 433701] Re: services-admin should be disabled

2009-10-04 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Correct me if I'm wrong (it's hard to get details on system-config-
services on the Web), but I don't believe the Fedora tool brings us much
more than we have (or could easily have). It seems to work only with
traditional init scripts, and does not seems to have very different
features from services-admin.

The problem about hard-coded services list is really silly, I guess I
can fix that for the next release. Basically, the problem is that you
can't get translated names and descriptions from random services,
because scripts don't provide it. But we can easily translate known
services, and show others in plain English.

And if the matter is making the GUI nicer and make it present more
informations, that should be quite easy to do, the framework is already
present.
