[development-axapta] Ax performance
Hi guys Have you checked out http://blogs.msdn.com/axperf/ lately? We have added a few very helpful articles on this site. Do try out the trace parser training video. In case you have not already tried trace parser...this is going to play a major role in indentifying your performance issue. There is also a distinct possibility that if you log any performance bug the support people will start asking for trace files. So might as well get used to this tool now*s* Regards Harry [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

RE: [development-axapta] getting trace messages into a table
Hi Ovidiu On the same window (development-trace) you have a check-box for storing the data in table which can be later viewed from admin-inquiries-Database – sql statements trace log. However, this tool is mostly useful for 1. Checking out the query plan quickly 2. Look for some obvious problems like missing indexes. I would recommend looking at TraceParser (as mentioned by Max) which is much more advanced. RE: AW: [development-axapta] Who locks the table?
Hello, You are saying this form 'often' does not show any SPID. In this case it may be worthwhile to checkout 'timeout' setting on your database. Is there any possibility that the blocking process was initiated by the user but the user disconnected or aborted the process leaving orphaned SPID? RE: [development-axapta] Re: Formbuilddatasource - adding a datasource runtime to an already running form
hi Lars I give up, Axapta starts crashing if I try to do anything. If I as really desparate I would modify the formrunclassonclient to make sure that { if the form being loaded has been setup to display the related values the form being loaded does not have the new datasource { use .AotAdd method to add the datasource and the related control to the grid } at least this way you will not have to modify the forms manually regards harry Lars Holm [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Harry, Okay, I will try to describe what I want to do. The user should be able to setup which forms should display some additional information in the grid or other control. E.g. in the salestable form, some additional fields would be displayed in the grid if the form is setup for this. This additional data is stored in a 1:1 related table with refrecid and reftableid relation. Then, in the syssetupformrun I will add the datasource to the particular form and add the display controls etc. too, thus it must be done at runtime. I can not modify all the forms in the AOT in Axapta just for this reason. I hope this described it in a sensible and informative way. If not, please let me know. Re: YNT: [development-axapta] SalesFormLetter_invoice from salespackingslipfor.
hi 1. There certainly is a 'salestable' in saleseditlinesform. However, I am not sure if joining the packing slip jour to the sales table will work. if not then 2. What you will have to do is as follows: as long as the document being processed is invoice { change the query in the salesFormletter to return a new query based on packingslipjour. take the packing slip ids and find sales order number (packing slip id is stored in inventtrans). look at createParmLine method you will have to match the inventtranslines with the packing slipid with inventnow, salesnow quantities. } If you are skilled in Axapta architecture then this should not take you more than 5-6 hours. else If you are not skilled in Axapta architecture then I would recommend this project as a good experience *s* Otherwise I would strongly recommend buying it off from the person who is offering this modification. regards harry regards harry Cenk Ince [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Amit There is no salestable in saleseditlines form. RE: [development-axapta] Adding new field to inventrans and getting it populated
Hi James Its very simple, there are multiple ways to do this. One way can be... Say you have created a field called InternalReferenceMMS (or InternalReferenceESG in your case *s*) on InventTrans Now create a new method on class InventMovement say Str 20 internalReferenceMMS() { ; return ; } Now override this method on InventMov_Sales Str 20 internalReferenceMMS() { ; return salesOrderLine.salesTable().PurchOrderFormNum; } Now .. go back to Class InventMovement method initInventTransFromBuffer add a line inventTrans.InternalReferenceMMS = this.internalReferenceMMS(); regards harry ps1: another (quick and a bit dirty) way would be to extend the initInventTransFromBuffer on inventmov_sales and add the following line before super() inventTrans.InternalReferenceMMS = salesOrderLine.salesTable().PurchOrderFormNum; ps2: I am planning to upload some modifications (my personal ones) on this forum. These modifications cover extending inventmovement and inventupdate classes. However, I am not sure as to how is the administrator of this forum, any idea as to the identity of this person? Ps3: I have not tried the above code but there is no reason why it should not work. Do let me know if you have any problems. _ From: James Flavell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, 10 March 2005 5:24 p.m. To: development-axapta@yahoogroups.com Subject: [development-axapta] Adding new field to inventrans and getting it populated Hi I would like to know what I need to do to add a new field to the inventrans and to get this field populated. I could use the batch number inventory dimension to record this PO number but dont think this is the best approach so I want to mkae a new field on the inventtrans and get this field copied from the sales order down to the inventtrans. Is this the best/correct way? If so can I just add the field (same name as sales order) and put it in one of the field groups and the system will take care of the rest (me dreaming?) or do I have to change a lot of code to get inventrans correctly populated? RE: [development-axapta] Add cost to inventory and recalculate issues
Hi InventTransAdjust is the correct class. Updating inventory and ledger has to be in a single loop (i.e. post ledger, get voucher numbers and use them while updating inventory costs), this is absolutely essential since Axapta stores all the updates (GL code wise) to the costAmountPosted and CostAmountAdjustment field in various tables (this is how Axapta will reverse inventory closing). One potential problem that you have is the ledger - physical and financial voucher button on InventTrans this relies heavily on the voucher numbers. However, this should not be a dead end, must be some way to solve this issue. I guess you will also have to make sure that you are not adjusting transactions that have been previously closed. Last but not the least, Axapta has some amazing programming hidden behind all these classes and it is completely flexible, so it is certainly possible to do what you want to do. Hope this helps. Regards harry _ From: matiazo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, 7 December 2004 7:33 a.m. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [development-axapta] Add cost to inventory and recalculate issues Hello everybody, We've been working with Axapta for about one year and we're currently developing one little module do add some direct and indirect cost based on Ledger Accounts using a cost month closing journal and job (splitting direct cost for salary for example into the orders that have time appointment in the month, and indirect costs like Administrative cost based in total hours appointed in the orders, then update de inventory and after, the ledger), there's no problem with this. But we need to add this cost to the inventory, we're currently researching to use the InventTransAdjust class that fills the field adjust for a specified inventTrans voucher. This is the most correct way to do this? Another question is, as we use de average cost, and our issues was with the previous cost, does the Inventory month closing will adjust all the issues for the goods??? For example, the cost of a semi- manufactured good will change with this (as we add´s up the cost with InventTransAdjust), and consequently the cost of finish manufactured good have to change to production order cost + semi- manufactured cost (the new one with that InventTransAdjust adjustment) + the amount that we add up to the order with InventTransAdjust. Example: Production Order 1 : semi manufactured have to be adjusted in $10 due administrative and other direct costs (this process its ok, no problem with that) + std Axapta cost ( not touched, BOM cost + cost of work centers, already in the inventory when the production order was finished) = $100 Production Order 2 : finish manufactured good 1 have to be adjusted in $33 due administrative and other direct costs (this process its ok, no problem with that) + std Axapta cost ( not touched, BOM cost + cost of work centers, already in the inventory when the production order was finished) = $120 Finish good 1 120 + 10 + 33 | | - semi manufactured 100 + 10 As it is, all the issues for finish good 1 has to be corrected in 43 when we run the inventory month closing and adjust. And the issues for semi manufactured have to be corrected in 10. This can be tested if we purchase some raw material, product some semi manufactured good with it, product another finish good with the semi- manufactured good then sell it. Turn back on purchase invoice for the raw material and adjust the cost with the misc. charges function, all the cost tree has to be changed. Does Axapta do this??? Hi Axapta 3.0 SP2 Does anybody know what this error message means (at the end of method ... pointed out in subject)? Label is @SYS55093 and text is Quantity '%1' cannot be updated with inventory reference '%2', as inventory transactions with status '%3', '%4' or '%5' are insufficient. Method in subject, sums Qty-s of InventTrans records and if the result is not 0 (zero) it throws this error message. The message is displayed (in my case) when trying to insert row in ProdJournalBOM table. The only way i was able to avoid this message, was to clear the values InventTrans.TransChildRefId and InventTrans.TransChildRefType for all rows in InventTrans table that had the same InventTransId (same InventTransId as in ProdJournalBOM). I have no idea what these fields (TransChildRefId, TransChildRefType) are being used. RE: [development-axapta] Form sort used for what?
Hi James First of all... if you want to apply a different sort order then you have to finger around with newJournalList method of class salesFormLetter_PickingList. Now to your question as to why this is not working for you... To be very honest, I did not try this out. However, I have a feeling as to why this is not working out for you. Axapta as two methods of printing the picking lists. First method is print pickinglist one by one as soon as they are processed. Represented by Printout=current on salesEditLinesForm. Second method is print pickinglists after they are processed. Represented by Printout = after on salesEditLinesForm. Obviously the sort will not work if Printout = current, since picking lists are being printed as soon as they are processed. I do not think you cannot change the value of printout manually. This can be changed in the update method of class salesformletter this.initParameters(salesParmUpdate, PrintOut::Current); // Printout I have not made a study of why this has been set as current in standard Axapta and the implications of setting printout to after. (for eg. If the picking list operations fails after processing 5 picking lists then whether the previous picking lists are reversed and if they are not reversed and there is a system failure then picking lists will not be printed etc etc.) However,in order for the formSort to work this value will have to be set to after. Another option which you may want to look at will be to change the order in which picking list are processed. Hope this helps Regards harry _ From: James Flavell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, 7 August 2004 11:28 a.m. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [development-axapta] Form sort used for what? Thanks very much Harry, Your example situation is a very good one and one that had not really crossed my mind :) my situation is very similar in that I want to make sure the warehouse pick priority customer stock first and therefore want the picking instructions to appear in customer prioirty order. I would refer the pick instruction number to be assigned in this order as it is more full proof but if it cannot then the print out in that order is the next best thing. Can you tell me exactly what you set to get it to work and what you did to test it worked? Like I said I have v3.0 SP2 and have set a sort but dont seem to get the printouts in that order (did you print to screen or printer...although I believe I should still be able to see the effect on the screen...) RE: [development-axapta] Form sort used for what?
Hi This form (from accounts receivable menu) puts records into a table called FormLetterSortingParameters Formlettersorting method in the formletter class creates sorting order on the basis of this table. The above is used at a lot of places for eg. Class salesFormLetter_Invoice method newJournalList uses this sort order to create a journalist. RE: [development-axapta] Batch processing for Salesorder Invoicing
Hi Akash! 1. As to SQL locks ... I am just guessing..however, I do feel that this is a case of SQL locks on (most likely) inventory tables, which will slow down your processing time drastically. 2. Any class which inherits runBaseBatch can be run in batch mode. When you run Sales invoice, the variable 'parmId' is generated even before you go into the salesEditLines form. When you put this job to batch this variable is stored in the database. Now the class 'batchRun' is responsible for running the batch. Take a look at following code in method 'runJob' of class 'batchRun' runBaseBatch = batch.object(); - this creates an instance of the class. infolog.updateViewSet(runBaseBatch); runBaseBatch.unpack(batch.parameters); - this will get all the saved variables from the databse including ParmId info(); runBaseBatch.parmInBatch(true); runbaseBatch.setCreatedByUserId(batch.createdBy); runBaseBatch.run(); - this will run the class instance generated above Now if you set this batch for recurrence the variables like parmId are reused over and over. Which means your salesParmTable will have most of the invoices generated by a single parmid. What you will have to do is to create a method in runJob like 'changeParametersAkash' and call this in method 'runJob' between unpack statement and run statement (as above). Then recompile the system. This will make class SalesFormLetter_Invoice inherit this particular method. Now overwrite this method in SalesFormLetter_invoice to change parmId i.e. to get a new parmId. I have logged this call on the support system in my previous company. RE: [development-axapta] Batch processing for Salesorder Invoicing
Hi Akash! 1. This looks like some kind of a locking problem. Did u check the SQL locks being generated? 2. We also had one more unrelated problem with sales invoice. The batch class in Axapta does not regenerate parameters such as parmId, every time the batch is run. So if u have a recurring batch then all the posting over a number of days will be made with the same parmId. U will have to take care of this problem too. Either I have to create a field to hold the value of 'ItemGroupId' on salesLine. This field does not serve any purpose after a line has been created and violates the 'Normalization' rule for the data. It also takes up unnecessary disk space. One can also create just an extended data type field on the saleTable form (in the sales line grid). However, this means..if i specify an item group and go to second line to specify a different item group the first item group changes. This will create confusion for the viewer. hi Yifat, this isa one line modification. change method 'createBOM' on table 'reqTrans'. Put the following line somewhere in the 'Search' loop inside this method (say when the quantity is assigned to the BOM.) reqTransBOM.CovInventDimId = _reqPo.CovInventDimId; this should solve your problem regards harry --- In [EMAIL PROTECTED], "yifath1" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi there, The problem occurs when you run the master scheduling, it populates the warehouse for the production order, but it does not populate the warehouse for the raw material. RE: [development-axapta] Re: Warehouses in Master Planing
Yes, I mean that warehouse on BOM-lines is used in master planning. Without looking further I'm afraid that your friend from Technet might be right. But if I were you I would check on what parameters that makes it right when you create a manual production, and if possible steal some code from there. Sorry, but I don't have the time to go deeper into the problem right now, but the problem is very interesting so maybe later.. -Original Message- From: yifath1 [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 19. april 2004 14:03 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [development-axapta] Re: Warehouses in Master Planing Do you mean the warehouse on the BOM lines? If so, i have to leave this blank because there is no default picking location for the raw materials. The problem is that i have independent warehouses that produce and purchase material, and have the same BOMs... therefore i cannot have a default warehouse on the BOM lines. Just to re-iterate the problem: I have a BOM (called BOM A), that is produced in two different warehouses and each warehouse has its own stock room which it purchases stock into and it picks this stock for production (ie the warehouses are not refilled by a (common main warehouse) How would I set it up that when there is a demand in Warehouse 1 and Warehouse 2, that Master planning would suggest that I need to PURCHASE stock into warehouse 1 to be picked for production in warehouse 1, and at the same time that I need to purchase stock into warehouse 2 to be picked and produced at warehouse 2. Currently, Master planning suggests in which warehouse the production is required, but not the purchase orders. (Axpata suggests in which warehouse the production should occur, the picking list has no warehouse attached to it.) Currently when creating the BOM I have left the warehouse field blank, however the planned orders also have a blank warehouse and hence I don't know where the items must be purchased into.. According to a person who replied to be me on Technet (discussion 9196), i have to modify axapta... the problem is that i have no idea where to startplease can someone help me... Many thanks in advance. [development-axapta] ByProduct
hi I am wondering if anyone can help me with the concept of by-product. I have written a module and it's working fine in terms of inventory and posting to GL. My questions are: 1. What should be thefinancial and physical cost of such by-product? I am taking it at standard cost. Any other suggestions? 2. Currently I am posting the by-products by using a journal similar to 'reported as finished' journal. However, I wish to link this to route feedback quantity since by-products are produced at different operation numbers. But I dont want to make route posting more complicated (there can be more than one-by product coming out per operation). Any idea as to how to handle this part? regards harry Yahoo!
