I just did an install of 5.5 in Australia/NSW timezone and the value
is correctly propagated to the config database, /etc/sysconfig/clock,
the shell environment and the system is 14 hours ahead of GMT.

Anyway, please report details to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (as Rich has pointed out).

You don't need to _rely_ on this. However it looks very cool when the freshly

concept for a Quantum SnapServer :)

Which I am not. But hang on, the languages are en_US and fr_CA, so
I'd say the defaults are pretty reasonable. If we added en_AU as a
language, I'd suspect the default would be Australian/NSW, or how about
Australia/Yancowinna to add interest? :-)

Yes, grovelling the network for lots of things might be a good idea,
but it takes time to implement and test and getting it wrong is probably
more annoying than a known default.

Finally, grovelling the local network in the _installer_, when most of
the SMB networking code is not available, is somewhat more than trivial.

BTW: I believe that choosing the timezone in the installer is a big
step forward from installing in US/Eastern and then having to go
to Date and Time to set the timezone. It also eases NTP setup since
you're already in the right timezone.

Subject: [e-smith-devinfo] Mitel Networks announces SME Server version 5.5

Mitel Networks is pleased to announce the availability of version 5.5
 of the SME Server.

This release includes many new features and updates.

 New Features

The following new features have been added to the Mitel Networks
 SME Server:

  - Internationalization infrastructure has been added to the installer,
server console and server manager web panels. A French-Canadian
localization is included with this release. You may switch between
languages when using the server manager by changing the Languages
setting in your web browser.

  - The Remote Access panel of the server manager now includes the
option to specify hosts which may remotely access the manager using
SSL (HTTPS).

  - The online manual link has been removed from the console.

  - Support for Windows Proxy Auto-detection and Netscape automatic proxy
configuration files has been added

More information about changes for developers and other corrections
can be found in the text below.

See below for a summary of new features available to commercial
subscribers.

 Installation

  - The user is required to accept the license conditions before installing
the software. This license is also available in the top directory of
the CDROM.

  - The installer detects whether the system is an existing SME Server
installation, and offers the choice to upgrade the system. In order
to perform a fresh install over an existing server, more options
must be typed in place of proceed.

  - The system can now be installed in English or Canadian French

Note: When installing in Canadian French, you must type the following
phrases instead of proceed or more options

 continuer (instead of proceed)
plus d'options (instead of more options)

  - International keyboard support has been added. The default keyboard
is us for English installs and cf for Canadian French installs,
although the desired keyboard can be selected during system
installation.

 - The timezone can now be set during system installation. The default
timezone is US/Eastern (for English installs) and Canada/Eastern
   (for Canadian French installs).

 Upgrades

  - Upgrades from SMEServer 5.0/5.1.x and e-smith 4.1.2 are auto-detected.

  - Direct upgrades from e-smith versions prior to 4.1.2 are NOT supported.
  - See http://www.e-smith.org/bugs/index.php3?op=showBugbugID=62

  - The installer detects an SME Server system which has not been correctly
shut down prior to upgrading. An upgrade cannot be performed reliably
on such a system. To upgrade in this case:

   - Halt the system
   - Remove the installation CD
   - Start up the system normally
   - Shut the system down using the Shutdown option from the server
console
   - Restart the installation from CD

If a fresh install is desired instead of an upgrade, type more
options
and choose the appropriate choice from the next menu.

  - Be aware that due to changes in the e-mail system, certain custom
templates will need to be updated.

 Documentation

  - The User Guide is available in the Documentation directory of the
CD image in HTML and Windows HTML Help file (CHM) formats. It is
available in both English and French-Canadian.

  - The User Guide is also available online at http://edocs.mitel.com/

 Developer notes

  - Obtuse SMTPD has been replaced with mailfront as the SMTP daemon.
All standard templates have been converted, but custom templates that
rely on Obtuse SMTPD need to be converted to mailfront format.

  - smtpfront-qmail is a drop-in replacement for qmail-smtpd with some
additional features - see
http://untroubled.org/mailfront/smtpfront.html

  - smtpfront-qmail supports /var/qmail/control/badmailfrom (as for
qmail-smtpd) and /var/qmail/control/badrcptto.

  - The FormMagick package provides a simple method to write web panels
with full internationalization support.

  - A comprehensive testing infrastructure has been added

Just to be clear, this is the one from the text-mode console. It took up a
menu item (real-estate is somewhat scarce on that page) and purely showed
you the URL for the manual. This was duplicated in the server-manager
and the server-manager link still exists.

Did you use the one in the text-mode console?

Gordon, Yes I did!

I suppose I can open a separate terminal log on as root ( or another user)
fire Lynx up and get it that way (arghghghgh!). Glad to hear the one in
server manager is still there though! I use that one even more!

I will miss it on the server console though... it was so easy, especially
for the hack-it test system that is just a stack of boards and drives
laying on my workbench here (assembled from things found in the dumpster by
various homeless folk that still want to be useful here around the museum)
I use it as a learning tool so I do not disturb the 'real' system that we
are using here. You have to understand, I am new to Linux..

  [...]

Just to be clear, this is the one from the text-mode console. It took up a
menu item (real-estate is somewhat scarce on that page) and purely showed
you the URL for the manual. This was duplicated in the server-manager
and the server-manager link still exists.

Did you use the one in the text-mode console?

  - A comprehensive testing infrastructure has been added. Many of the
reworked panels use this testing infrastructure.

  - The Apache web server

None, yet, but we have had requests for other items in the console.

It also had to be internationalised for 5.5, and its usage (very low)
didn't justify the effort.

Why don't you try getting it from another machine first?
One of the fields in SMB can provide this. Unfortunately I don't remember the
details. Will try to dredge it up.
