Re: [digitalradio] Software defined receivers, versus transceivers, for digital modes ?
The goal is also for DM780 to take data from the SDR console and use it to display / monitor up to 200kHz of bandwidth. Lets not forget the opportunities here to even transmit with wider bandwidths then before. There are likely both weak signal and faster data realms here we can finally begin to explore... For a starter, how about a 10 KHz version of the QPSKx25 mode... 73 Bill - WA7NWP

The Softrock radios make me a little nervouse because their availability seems sporadic and their website makes you wonder if they are still a full busines. Is the V9 mentioned in this thread a multiband? Ideally hams would be beter off with one SDR that covers 80-10 rather thans several for each band. Also,I would like to avoid kits. Re: [digitalradio] SOFTWARE?
Maybe one of the latest versions of Hamcom, or Mix 2.19 or 2.21 could be configured to make your boxes run with a PC and PC software. I did some 12 years ago, using a KPC 2 as dumb modem and homebrew FSK modems (TU's) on my old 386 and 486's using the serial and parallel ports. Don't ask me about the specifics right now, as it has been a long time to remember it all in detail. Just browse the help and docs of Hamcom and the old DOS Mix, and your boxes manuals I had particularly good results with a homebrew dual AM demodulator for FSK using some ideas borrowed from the KAM modem and the AN-93. I ran AMTOR and PACTOR using TERMAN 93 and packet using BPQAX25. Filter's alignment and a suitably good post demodulator low pass filter are certainly important. So your equipment may be out of fashion but not useless if it is still in good working shape. But it will be hard to find anyone on AMTOR or plain old pactor in the HF bands, and packet is quite scarce too. 73 HNY, Jose, CO2JA --- Siegfried Jackstien wrote: you can get an old pc for free sometimes ... just hold your eyes open commodore c64 ... yes it is really old gear happy2009 dg9bfc - Original Message - *From:* Michael Mihailovic mailto:vk...@bigpond.com *To:* digitalradio@yahoogroups.com mailto:digitalradio@yahoogroups.com *Sent:* Saturday, January 03, 2009 10:13 PM *Subject:* [digitalradio] SOFTWARE? Re: [digitalradio] Software Link for WinDRM?
There has been a 'war of sorts at the former Windrm Google Discussion group and it no longer exists. A new one has been formed entitled digital voice. Most of the download FDMDV links appear to have a re-direct to the new Google group. When you apply to join the group, you are warned that you are not welcome if you want to discuss MELP . MELP is a patented codec that works well in WINDRM and FDMDV but Texas Instruments owns the copyright to plain MELP and TI , Microsoft , and a group of others own the rights to MELPe. It appears the FDMDV owner cost miffed about the discussion about the legality of the software with MELP. Cesco worked hard on this fine application, it is sad that the distribution appears to be limited to a USA web site that is occasionally subjected its self to erratic behavior and on several occasions has got in to copyright trouble. Mike you may like to try YAPP. It's a all around TNC DOS based terminal program. Split screen - and all that. I think it's still in the files area of this list. If not I will add it again. ARRL bulletins are transmitted that way still today. It should not be that hard to do. I wrote a rtty program for an old 8080 processor about 20 years ago that would do that. After about 65 characters it would look for a space and would send two carriage returns, a line feed, and a leters function to be compatiable with the mechanical machines. If it did not get a space, it would force the end of line sequence after 72 charcters. I mostly use the computer sound card interface for most digital work, but do have an old mechanical machine hooked up and it is irriatating to have to watch it to make sure it gets the cr/lf instead of just printing a big black block at the end. Re: [digitalradio] Software for the digital ham that multi-tasks while sleeping ?
Andy, I believe that somehow it has been already done and is hidden to most of us. How ? I have not tried to run the recent Linux ham apps from the command line, but the cron can be used to start and stop tasks in one minute intervals. You can invoke either applications or scripts with arguments. Years ago (some 8+ years ago), I used the FBB cron to switch bands with an automatic antenna tuner / switch, that even allowed remote QSY of the BBS with a simple CAT program I wrote for the FT-757. I am crossposting this reply to both linuxham* lists and the WSJT Group, because that even when I have not done it, somebody might already have done it and might comment about this. 73, Jose, CO2JA -- Andrew O'Brien wrote: If you are like me, there is SO MUCH happening in the amateur radio digital world that it is hard to keep up with , more fun to be had than can be squeezed in to 24 hours. In my own case I can record the incoming audio and play it back later. At the moment I leave DM780 running all night picking up SSTV pictures. I'm not sure I would want a scheduler but were I to add one I would use a UI similar to Outlook's calendar. Simon Brown, HB9DRV - Original Message - From: Peter G. Anyone care to invent this ? What you're describing could be done quite easily from within a particular program. It could easily be built as an external program that sends ActiveX commands to MixW, for example. The only hang-up that I see is in terms of tuning: So, you tune to 14070 in PSK31 mode and listen for 20 minutes, or whatever. Suppose the station is on 14070.5? My point is that especially with these narrow modes, wouldn't what you're describing require activity directly on the frequency in question? PSK31 tuning is pretty fussy. de Peter K1PGV
RE: [digitalradio] Software for the digital ham that multi-tasks while sleeping ?
WinWarbler can decode all PSK31 or PSK63 QSOs within any 3.5 khz band segment, determine the stations involved, and maintain a Stations Heard window like this: http://www.dxlabsuite.com/winwarbler/Heard.jpg WinWarbler can be configured insert station's heard into SpotCollector's database, thereby enabling long-term capture and analysis. Awhile back, 4X1DA used this to assemble this interesting analysis of 8 hours of 20m PSK monitoring from his QTH: http://www.dxlabsuite.com/winwarbler/4X1DA.xls 73, Dave, AA6YQ -Original Message- From: digitalradio@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Peter G. Re: [digitalradio] software for digital modes MAC and LINUX
Hi Joaquin, For Mac, try http://www.machamradio.com/index.html. Cocoa-modem is the best digi-mode app around for OS X. Xastir is great for APRS. For Linux, the 0.7pre version gMFSK is probably the best thing going at the moment, covering Olivia and CW in addition to the usual suspects (psk, hell, etc). The 'stable' 0.6 release doesn't cover those additional modes. You may have to compile it yourself, I can't recall (hint: don't bother if your running a 64-bit kernel). For packet and APRS you can use the builtin ax.25, soundmodem software tnc and the APRS app Xastir. 73's have fun flinging bits into the ether Darren, G0HWW On 10 Jul 2006, at 10:33, EA4ZB wrote: Hey all: Pse, I need info for software from psk31, etc and outher digital modes to MAC and LINUX.
