2009-08-03 Thread Bill V WA7NWP

The goal is also for DM780 to take data from the SDR console and use it to
display / monitor up to 200kHz of bandwidth.

Lets not forget the opportunities here to even transmit with wider
bandwidths then before. There are likely both weak signal and faster
data realms here we can finally begin to explore...

For a starter, how about a 10 KHz version of the QPSKx25 mode...

Well - this assumes you have a SDR transmitter of course, but the SDR

The Softrock radios make me a little nervouse because their
availability seems sporadic and their website makes you wonder if they
are still a full busines. Is the V9 mentioned in this thread a
multiband? Ideally hams would be beter off with one SDR that covers
80-10 rather thans several for each band. Also,I would like to avoid
kits.

2009-01-03 Thread Jose A. Amador

Maybe one of the latest versions of Hamcom, or Mix 2.19 or 2.21 could be
configured to make your boxes run with a PC and PC software.

I did some 12 years ago, using a KPC 2 as dumb modem and homebrew FSK
modems (TU's) on my old 386 and 486's using the serial and parallel
ports. Don't ask me about the specifics right now, as it has been a long
time to remember it all in detail. Just browse the help and docs of
Hamcom and the old DOS Mix, and your boxes manuals

I had particularly good results with a homebrew dual AM demodulator for
FSK using some ideas borrowed from the KAM modem and the AN-93. I ran
AMTOR and PACTOR using TERMAN 93 and packet using BPQAX25. Filter's
alignment and a suitably good post demodulator low pass filter are
certainly important. So your equipment may be out of fashion but not
useless if it is still in good working shape.

But it will be hard to find anyone on AMTOR or plain old pactor in the
HF bands, and packet is quite scarce too.

2008-07-20 Thread Andrew O'Brien
There has been a 'war of sorts at the former Windrm Google Discussion
group and it no longer exists. A new one has been formed entitled
digital voice. Most of the download FDMDV links appear to have a
re-direct to the new Google group. When you apply to join the group,
you are warned that you are not welcome if you want to discuss MELP
. MELP is a patented codec that works well in WINDRM and FDMDV but
Texas Instruments owns the copyright to plain MELP and TI ,
Microsoft , and a group of others own the rights to MELPe. It appears
the FDMDV owner cost miffed about the discussion about the legality of
the software with MELP.

Cesco worked hard on this fine application, it is sad that the
distribution appears to be limited to a USA web site that is
occasionally subjected its self to erratic behavior and on several
occasions has got in to copyright trouble.

Andy,

I believe that somehow it has been already done and is hidden to most of us.

How ?

I have not tried to run the recent Linux ham apps from the command line,
but the cron can be used to start and stop tasks in one minute
intervals. You can invoke either applications or scripts with arguments.

Years ago (some 8+ years ago), I used the FBB cron to switch bands with
an automatic antenna tuner / switch, that even allowed remote QSY of the
BBS with a simple CAT program I wrote for the FT-757.

I am crossposting this reply to both linuxham* lists and the WSJT Group,
because that even when I have not done it, somebody might already have
done it and might comment about this.

What you're describing could be done quite easily from within a

The only hang-up that I see is in terms of tuning: So, you tune to
14070 in PSK31 mode and listen for 20 minutes, or whatever. Suppose the
station is on 14070.5?

My point is that especially with these narrow modes, wouldn't what
you're describing require activity directly on the frequency in
question? PSK31 tuning is pretty fussy.

Re: [digitalradio] software for digital modes MAC and LINUX

2006-07-12 Thread Darren Long
Hi Joaquin,

For Mac, try http://www.machamradio.com/index.html. Cocoa-modem is
the best digi-mode app around for OS X. Xastir is great for APRS.

For Linux, the 0.7pre version gMFSK is probably the best thing going
at the moment, covering Olivia and CW in addition to the usual
suspects (psk, hell, etc). The 'stable' 0.6 release doesn't cover
those additional modes. You may have to compile it yourself, I can't
recall (hint: don't bother if your running a 64-bit kernel).

For packet and APRS you can use the builtin ax.25, soundmodem
software tnc and the APRS app Xastir.
