[Dspace-tech] Unable to connect DSpace

2013-09-13 Thread SanjibKumarDeka
Hi,

We are using DSpace 3.1 in RHEL 6.4 with xmlui interface. Sometimes I'm
unable to open the DSpace homepage even from the server. In that case, If I
shutdown and restart the Tomcat then sometimes it works. Otherwise I have
to reboot the server to access the DSpace page.

Kindly help me please to fix this problem.

With regards,

[Dspace-tech] Using Curation Tools

2013-09-13 Thread Matthew Sherman
Hello,

Earlier in the week I had been asking about the link checker, as we ran it
but were getting the following result:

The task was completed successfully.

STATUS: Fail, RESULT: Item: 123456789/473 -
https://repository.bridgeport.edu/xmlui/handle/123456789/473 = 0 - FAILED

Now we are wondering if we have it setup properly or are simply using it
incorrectly. The documentation on how to use the curation tools is less
clear on how to make everything work than we would like. Is there a more
in depth resource that explains how to configure and use the curation
tools? Or can someone provide a primer to make sure we have done
everything correctly? We are currently using DSpace 1.8, but looking to
upgrade at the end of the semester when classes finish. Any help is
appreciated.

 accounts.

  Just a quick follow-up, I've gotten the last strategy pretty
much working now, thanks!

  There is a remaining issue, not related to password complexity --
profiles are not being imported correctly from the LDAP. I suspect
this is a permissions problem in my LDAP, but I'm not sure yet.

[Dspace-tech] Configuring Discovery per Collection/Community

2013-09-13 Thread Terry Brady
I have just begun to experiment with configuring multiple Discovery
Configurations, and I am very excited by this feature. (Thank you to those
who coded this!)

I have been able to successfully include a defaultFilterQuery for one of my
collections, and I see that this filter is applied when performing a search
or navigating by facet. If the user performs a browse, then the filter is
ignored which makes sense.

My default filter is set to only show items of a specific type (Digital
Object).

I would actually like for the user to see that this filter is being applied
and to have the ability remove that filter when desired. Is there some way
to configure this behavior?

Thanks, Terry

[Dspace-tech] LDAP auto-registration -- what am I missing?

2013-09-13 Thread Andrew Reid

  Hi again all --

  I am having some difficulties with auto-registration of LDAP
authenticated users.

  When I first sign in as a user who exists only in LDAP, most
of the profile entries are wrong, and I can't figure out why. I
thought it was probably permissions, but I have gotten to the point
where everything in the LDAP is at least readable by everyone,
and it's still failing.

  One issue is, I can't seem to find any error messages -- I'm new
to tomcat and Java generally, so pointers to docs on more verbose
logging would be welcome.

  What I have done is, first set up a DSpace admin user via
the regular password mechanism. The plan was then to create
a new LDAP user, add it to the admin group, and then turn off
password authentication. That actually all works fine, that's
independent of the profile issue.

  Here is an example -- this is all on a VM with local mail transport,
it's DSpace 3.2, and CentOS 6.4, and I am using the xmlui interface
via mod_jk from Apache 2.2, with a local LDAP service, over https.

  In LDAP, I have an accounts OU, and there's a user whose LDIF looks
like this:

 dn: uid=dadmin,ou=accounts,dc=rest-of-domain
 objectClass: inetOrgPerson
 cn: New Guy
 sn: Guy
 givenName: New
 uid: dadmin
 userPassword:: e1NTSEF9OUxqZ2ozUU9VNjZtaU9JTkJoSTlqZjlzVHVYM2hJTjg=
 mail: dadmin@localhost
 description: Dspace experiment

  Initially, this user is not present as a DSpace E-Person, until
I log in via the LDAP. I successfully authenticate as dadmin,
and then the original admin user gets this e-mail:

 A new user has registered on Example DSpace at URL:

 Name:   null null
 Email:  dadminnull
 Date:   9/13/13 2:15 PM

  So, apparently autoregistration is happening, but it's not
seeing the right info.

  The authentication-ldap.cfg file's non-comment entries are these:

 enable = true
 autoregister = true
 provider_url = ldap://localhost/
 id_field = uid
 object_context = ou=accounts,dc=rest-of-domain
 search_context = ou=accounts,dc=rest-of-domain
 email_field = mail
 surname_field = sn
 givenname_field = givenName

  The fact that the authentication succeeds makes me think I'm
not too far off. I don't think I've typo'd any of the field
names on either side. Is there some subtlety in the permissions
that I'm missing? Does this work for other people?

  I'm not doing heirarchical authentication, should I be?

  I have set xmlui.user.registration=false and
xmlui.user.editmetadata=false in dspace.cfg, but these do not appear
to affect the auto-registration, only later edits.

  Any extra clues would be appreciated.

[Dspace-tech] How to purge/remove old thumbnails?

Hello everyone,

I have this situation where some entries had two PDFs, and got thumbnails
generated for these PDFS.
But the first PDFs of these items were removed from the entires. But the
items' thumbnails in the search results did not change, they are still
showing the thumbnail for the first PDF as the default thumbnail for the
entry in the search results.

filter-media -f does not help as it does not remove the old thumbnails,
only updates.

Hi Carlos,

NAS doesn't imply SRB. SRB is a grid computing technology, whereas NAS only
exports filesystems. But that's good news - setting up NAS with DSpace requires
you simply to mount the exported filesystem on the DSpace server in an empty
directory, point assetstore.dir in dspace.cfg to that empty directory and
restart Tomcat.

You'll also probably want to copy your current assetstore over to that mount
point before you restart Tomcat. Then you won't need your old assetstore
directory anymore. Another alternative is to add
assetstore.dir.1 pointing to NAS in addition to your current assetstore.dir; in
that case all new content would be stored to
assetstore.dir.1 and the old content would remain in assetstore.dir.

[Dspace-tech] High CPU usage

2013-09-13 Thread Nemiz, Elvi
Dear all,

Lately we are encountering unusual high CPU usage of our repository which
causes it to hang. Restarting the tomcat service usually resolved this
problem. I created a batch file that monitors cpu usage and if it reached
100%, it will stop and start the tomcat service automatically. Looking at
the dspace log I found the error below, I don't know if this is related at
all to the high cpu usage.
