Re: [Dx4win] Losing conformations

2024-02-22 Thread Jerry N9AW
When you are doing your Import of the WSJT log to DX4WIN, just before the
import a window pops up that says Options for duplicate QSOs. The default
value is (or should be) Imported QSO is Ignored.

Is that the way it is set? Because otherwise all of the WSJT QSOs are
going to replace your DX4WIN QSOs.

I am a long time DX4WIN user but I have never found a way to eliminate
Priority level 7 (or even 6 for that matter) QSOs from showing in the DX

Does anyone know a way to do this?

Re: [Dx4win] FW: Operating from two QTH.

2022-10-12 Thread Jerry N9AW
Whenever I have operated from another location, for example operating in
another state, I have just kept a separate log. This, too, has pluses and
minuses in that you don't see complete statistics, reports, etc but it does
make the QSLing process easy for generating labels, etc. I've uploaded
from these logs also, which only requires a one time upload, if my
operation was from a vacation. On the import from LOTW side of things you
can just open each log that you may have QSLs from LOTW and run the import
for each DX4WIN log. The contacts that are not in that log are simply
rejected. And, if you eventually want one complete log of all QSOs, you
can open a new log and simply import all of your DX4WIN logs into the new
log.

I guess this is just another approach to dealing with multiple logs.

Re: [Dx4win] Question

2022-08-21 Thread Jerry N9AW
Hi John,
If you want to export specifically in order to submit your QSOs to LOTW
then you will want to use the LOTW | Submit to LOTW pull down menu. Using
this assumes you will only submit those QSO that have the LOTW Upload flag
set to Y. Using this method will ensure that if you add QSOs to the log,
then only your added QSOs will be exported to go to LOTW. And, again, the
criteria for selection are those QSOs that have the LOTW Upload field
marked as Y. There is a setting in Preferences so that all new QSOs will
automatically be marked with a Y for LOTW upload, so you don't have to mark
them manually.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

[Dx4win] Question about Notes for this QSO field

2021-03-10 Thread Jerry N9AW
My question - is it possible to make a mass change to the "Notes for this
QSO" field?

Background
I have used the group field to indicate my operating location. One was in
a campground where I had a seasonal for years. There were others too.
Anyway, I want to use the groups field in another way. I can select the
qsos I want to change using the Filter process. But then I would like to
insert some text into the Notes for this QSO field for this group of qsos.
Is this possible short of manually entering each entry?

Re: [Dx4win] QSO statistics

2021-02-16 Thread Jerry N9AW
If you know of a contest logging program that has this feature (reporting
on number of QSOs by country) I would be surprised. More importantly, that
program should be able to accept an import from an .ADI file. Perhaps the
easier resolution is to export your DX4WIN log and import it into this
logging software you mentioned and then you will have your answers.

Personally, I can't see the value of knowing the count of QSOs by country.
DX4WIN has the summary and other information regarding counts of countries
worked in total, by mode and by band. That is extremely important to me.

Good luck

Re: [Dx4win] Fw: Re: Very Satisfied with DX4WIN

2020-04-16 Thread Jerry N9AW
And if Paul (developer) were to implement these things you ask for, would
you be willing to pay for it? The man and his family have to eat too.
Or how about this, would you be willing to pay an annual fee for upgrades
to DX4WIN ? Other loggers with robust features demand this.
I too am a very long time user of DX4WIN. I don't recall the year I
started using it but it seems like the early 90s. As I recall, Paul said
long ago that he was freezing any further development of DX4WIN. That
lasted for a long time. When we went from vers 8 to vers 9, I considered
that a gift. I can't even recall if we paid to get the new version, if we
did it was something like $35. For someone to whine and complain that they
want their money's worth, I mean come on. I'm sure you'd throw $35 over
the bar in one evening or spend that for a mediocre lunch. The other thing
to consider is that perhaps Paul does not have time to devote to DX4WIN.
Maybe, he has just lost interest.

Here's a thought, write to Paul direct in stead of the user group. We're
not the ones that will be doing any develop of DX4WIN.

[Dx4win] Minor Request for Update

2019-12-11 Thread Jerry N9AW
I would like to request that LOTW be added as a QSL Method in a future
update.

Been using DX4WIN since the 90s, great logging program. Thanks for all
your hard work Paul.

Re: [Dx4win] Entering Swl Qsl’s

2019-11-04 Thread Jerry N9AW
It works here. Use Search (F8) to find the callsign of the QSO that the
SWL is asking for. The press Ctrl-F2 or use the QSO pull down menu to
select Confirm QSL. A box pops up asking for the SWL number.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN failed to start - Bug report is available - Need advice

2018-05-15 Thread Jerry N9AW
Very good Kostas and thank you for the help. I always start DX4WIN well
after the PC starts up so I haven't experienced any issues with Dropbox.

On an application that does start at PC startup, it routinely doesn't show
the data out in Dropbox until the Dropbox connection is made but then all
the data appears and the app goes along its way. Its a PIM (Personal
Information Manager) type of software.

Anyway, I am glad all is working again. Thanks again.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN failed to start - Bug report is available - Need advice

2018-05-14 Thread Jerry N9AW
Just an update on this problem, I re-installed DX4WIN 9.03 and everything
is back working just fine. I did the Check for Updates and downloaded the
latest updates too. The only thing I seemed to have "lost" is that I have
a customized version of the Logbook report that is now missing. No big
deal I will just recreate that report.

Thanks to everyone that offered their help. I am glad it was just as
simple as a reinstall.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN failed to start - Bug report is available - Need advice

2018-05-14 Thread Jerry N9AW
Thank for the help Kostas. Here's an update on what is happening.

1. When I start DX4WIN, it starts but only with the Packet window and the
DX Spots window. The box pops up saying "An error occurred in the
application" with the 3 options of continuing, restart or close. As I
press the continue button multiple times the QSO Window opens but it has an
old QSO in it. Another Error box pops up and says "A fatal error occurred
reading the logfile". The logfile is in Dropbox. I can see it there with
File Manager and open other files in Dropbox. When I next press the
Continue Application button DX4WIN logs on to my cluster node and displays
spots. At that point I can also click the OK button in the Error Box that
is telling me A Fatal error occurred reading the logfile. When I click
that OK button I can access the QSO window which now has a recent QSO in
it. I can also access the FILE menu to try to open a log.

I have several logfiles from different operations out on Dropbox. When I
try to open any of them I go back to the error window that says An error
occurred in the application with the three options to continue, restart or
close.

About your questions...
1. I did press the Send Report button so hopefully Paul will get the file.
2. Dropbox is working OK for all other applications that I checked today.
Examples, MS Word, MS Excel, WSJT-X.
3. I only started one instance of DX4WIN.

I am guessing I should reinstall DX4WIN at this point. What do you think?

Thanks again for your help Kostas. It is much appreciated.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN failed to start - Bug report is available - Need advice

2018-05-13 Thread Jerry N9AW
I tried to start DX4WIN this evening and it failed to start. A box popped
up saying "An error occurred in the application" giving me three options
which are continue application, restart application and close application.
It also indicates that a bug report is available. That bug report is a
text file in the DX4WIN file folder.

I opened the bug report file and one line in it says that the Exception
Class is EInOutError and that the Exception Message is as follows:
Access violation at address 006BC143 in module 'dx4win.exe'. Read of
address

I can send the bug report file to Paul or . PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I need some advice. Is there a cure or should I reinstall dX4WIN v9.03.
I have my license key file saved and all of my logs are saved in the cloud
so no problem there.

Re: [Dx4win] NEW VERSION

2017-10-07 Thread Jerry N9AW
That is exactly what beta testing is all about. I think the underlying
question is WHAT is it that is being beta tested. Release 9 doesn't define
anything really.
It's just a bit unusual to not hear what the contents of the release will
be. That's OK, Paul has always done a very fine job so I am not concerned
about it. I've tried other loggers but I am not willing to go through the
learning curve.

Re: [Dx4win] NEW VERSION

2017-10-07 Thread Jerry N9AW
Has a list of what will be in the new release ever been published? Beta
testing is a long way down the road for development. I would be interested
in knowing what we should expect as new features or changes. I have been
a DX4WIN user from the beginning also.

Hopefully, the new release will allow the end user to setup new modes or at
the very least to allow new modes to be setup in the Data Updater program.

Re: [Dx4win] cut numbers?

2017-07-28 Thread Jerry N9AW
Here's the skinny on "cut numbers". Some memory keyers support cut
numbers.Basically, they are an abbreviated way of sending some things
on CW especially used during contests.

Cut Numbers...

in sending RST reports in abbreviated form, for example 599, is sent as
5NN. "N" in place of the number "9".".
Also CW stations sometimes report their zones as "A4" or "A5" instead of
sending "14" or "15".
0 = T  1 = A   2 = U  3 = V   4 = 4
5 = E   6 = 6  7 = B  8 = D  9 = N

We've all heard and probably used 5nn in place of 599. In DX4WIN
certainly 5NN can be put into macros. And you wanted to consistently send
a report involving one of the above numbers then you could use the
abbreviation in your macro. But other than that I don't know of any way
to tell DX4WIN that you want to send cut numbers and have it
automatically do so when it encounters one of the above numbers in text.

>From my experience in contesting the most common usage has been in contests
involving the sending of your CQ or ITU zone number. For example, being
in Wisconsin, I might send 5NNT4 instead of 59904. Caribbean stations
often send 5NNT8. Europeans might send 5NNA4 instead of 59914, etc. etc
etc.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Dx4win] JT65

2017-06-20 Thread Jerry N9AW
Hi All,
I guess this doesn't address Paul's issue directly but.. I use the
JT65 program by HB9HQX. It has an internal logging function with an export
feature. The export from HB9HQX comes into DX4WIN very cleanly. While the
rstS and rstR are filled with 599 the Notes for this QSO field look like
this:
Import:{rstS=-04 rstR=-06}

I am fairly new to JT65 but the HB9HQX program is working solid for me.

Re: [Dx4win] How to change entity to match call

2017-01-26 Thread Jerry N9AW
They are the same. This is the information I found online when searching
for T32C 2011

Between 1 and 24 October 2011, thirty eight radio amateurs from 11
countries activated the Island of Kiritimati (Christmas Island) in
the Northern Line Islands, a part of the Republic of Kiribati. The
DXpedition was organised by the Five Star DXers Association (FSDXA)
<http://www.t32c.com/About_FSDXA> and operated using the call sign T32C.

Re: [Dx4win] Error in DXCC report - version 8.05

2016-12-13 Thread Jerry N9AW
I think Mike gave an excellent explanation. The following comes from the
DXCC Rules on the ARRL website:

*c) CW*: Contacts must be made using CW since January 1, 1975.
Confirmations for cross-mode contacts for this award must be dated
September 30, 1981, or earlier. CW contacts dated December 31, 1974, or
before, are credited as Mixed mode.

Re: [Dx4win] Removing unwanted parts from the log

2016-11-05 Thread Jerry N9AW
Hi Dieter,
Here's how to remove those QSOs.

This assumes you have a separate log of the CQWW QSOs already somewhere
else and you are just trying to delete the CQWW QSOs from your log and NOT
move them to another log. It also assumes that you have NO OTHER QSOs on
the date of the CQWW you mentioned.
1. Before doing anything, backup your log by doing a FILE|SAVE AS. Save
your log under another name.
2. Do a search (F8) by inserting the date of the contest into the date
field (since it was CQWW will need to do this in two steps, one f
or each date)
  - All of the QSOs for the entered date will be selected. If you have
Log window open you will see them. To verify this you can use the FILTER |
COUNT menu item and it will display the count of the QSOs selected.
3. Use the QSO | MULTIPLE QSO OPERATIONS | DELETE QSOS menu to delete the
QSOs that have been selected.
4. Now go back to step 2 and select the other date for that particular
CQWW contest.

At this point your log should be cleared of those CQWW QSOs. Backup your
log again before continuing with normal operations.

Good Luck / 73

My suggestion would be to identify these contacts in some way that you can
search for later. Perhaps either as a note in the Notes for This QSO
field or by setting up a Group for these type of contacts.

[Dx4win] Ignoring Screen spots from spotter

Is there a way to screen off spots from a spotter using DX4WIN?
There is a certain spotter that will go un-named, that spots DX spots that
 I
can never hear anyway. It's annoying to me to get these spots.
My ham friend says that his free logging program has this feature but I'm
not ready to give up on DX4WIN as I like it.

Set up a filter at your node, so the spots won't even be sent to
DX4WIN. Syntax varies between the different Cluster software, so you'll
have to check the docs. If you have trouble with it, feel free to email
me directly and tell me which softwqare the node uses (usually found in
the sign-on headers or with show/version).
