Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN and QRZ.com **SOLVED**

2023-07-03 Thread Rick Stoneking
So it turns out that somehow the Data Source under Address Search was set to
None and I did not notice it!! When I noticed this I thought maybe changing
from using the web page lookup (alt-F3) to the XML subscription it got
changed by the program - because I assumed that if the Data Source was None
it would not have worked for the Web lookup either... Wrong! I tested this
and with Data Source set to None the Web lookup still works fine, so it was
all cockpit error.

My apologies,
Rick

Tim/All,

I have subscribed to QRZ.com XML service and verified it is working using
the QRZ XML Test page.
I have put the following in the Ext Data config of DX4WIN - this is a
copy/paste from the fields in DX4WIN:

Initial Callsign Lookup Address:
http://xmldata.qrz.com/xml/current/?username=[USERNAME];password=[PASSWORD];
agent=[PROGRAM]

Callsign Lookup Address:
http://xmldata.qrz.com/xml/current/?s=[SESSIONID];callsign=[CALLSIGN]

and in the User Info box I have put my callsign which is my username for
QRZ.com login and in the Password box I entered my callsign.

Pressing F3 with a callsign from in the QSO Entry window, with a callsign
entered that I know QRZ has info for, results in a blank popup box??

I have tried changing my password so it has ONLY letters and numbers but
that did not work. I have searched the web for any additional help but no
joy.

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

DX4WIN version is 9.0.9

Rick

Hitting JUST F3.when in the QSO window, brings up the pop-up (with the

Hitting ALT F3 .will do ALL the following: Open your default browser
(if it isn't already open), bring up the QRZ websiteANDtake you to
the QRZ page of the callsign in the QSO window when you hit this

Of course, for ALL of these things to happen in this detail listed above

1. You're a QRZ XML subscriber
2. You have it configured correctly in the File>Preferences>Ext Data

MANY have had issues with getting that config correct. It goes like this:

*Under Online Callsign Lookup*

*Enabled* is *checked *(of course, it has to be on) *Initial Callsign Lookup

[Dx4win] CW Keying Com Port issue

2023-06-25 Thread Rick Stoneking
All,

I have DX4WIN 9.0.9 running on a Windows 10 PC which has one build in
hardware serial port which is connected to my Kenwood TS-950SD via the
Kenwood IF-232. I then have a USB 2.0 to Serial (FTDI chipset) adapter
plugged in to a USB 2.0 port (COM9) and configured DX4WIN to use COM9 for CW
keying. I built a home brew interface and it works fine but the problem
that I have is that sometime when the computer starts up, after having been
turned off, and I launch DX4WIN I get an error dialog that says "Could not
open COM9 for keying: ie_Open - device already open". At first I started
going in to File->Preferences selecting a differenc com port (non existent)
for keying and saving changes (got an error that the Com port is not
available - which was expected. I then repeating this and re-selecting COM9
and saving and no error message and DX4WIN keying works fine.

I then tried something different - when the error occurs I just do a
File->Preferences->Save Changes and Exit - WITHOUT making any changes. This
results in CW keying working fine. I then found that if I repeat this
again, save changes without changing anything I will get the 'already open'
error. Every other time I save changes I get the error. And this happens
even when NO changes are made, just open preferences and immediately tell
DX4WIN to save preferences.

This is not a big deal but it is annoying and I am hoping someone out there
has a solution.

Thanks

Rick

[Dx4win] DX4WIN with IC-756PROIII

Fred,

I recenctly when through this exact same exercise. I had to make a couple
of chagnes to the DX4WIN rig file for the pro III.Find the [RF-Current
VFO] entry and edit it as follows:

[RF-Current VFO]
CMD=Read VFO A
FMT=BCD-R
POS=7
LM=4

After making these changes my ProIII works perfectly.

Good luck,

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN with IC-756PROIII

Could someone help me on this?

I am using DX4WIN version 7.02.15 under windows 2000. I have a FT1000MP
connected to the computer working fine with DX4WIN.

I have installed RigTalk in order to add an Icom 756PROIII as a second
radio. Rig talk has been installed successfully. The 756PROIII works 100%
with TRX Manager. So RigTalk is working fine.

I have configured preferences for the second radio using 756PROIII default
entry, the corresponding COM port being set and a poll rate of 1000 ms (1
second).

When I switch to the second radio, DX4WIN can communicate with the radio,
but it is somewhat erratic. When I change bands it takes long to adjust
DX4WIN band/mode (at random basis).

Then I have tried the option radio|set frequency. I have realized that
when pooling the frequency from the radio DX4WIN understands the frequency
wrong. For instance radio is on 7035.00, but DX4WIN reads 703.500,00.
Suddenly it understands correctly and at this point the band/mode is
ajusted at QSO window when in real time logging (F9).

Definitely there is something wrong at DX4WIN's side configuration wise or
even a glitch.

Any help is appreciated. Regards Fred PY2XB

[Dx4win] 756 ProIII and RigTalk USB interface

2006-10-31 Thread Rick Stoneking
More info.

Using the File-Databases-Radios menu option I was able to see some of the
information going back and forth between computer and radio. The first
thing I had to do was change the Read multiplier from 1.0 to 0.01 to get
the frequency to display correctly - sort of. This value seems to work for
any frequency up to 21,474.83kHz. At 21,474.84 kHz the reported frequency
is -21,474.83kHz and the number continues to go up (toward zero), at
42,949.67kHz the Edit Radio dialog box reports -0.00. As you increase the
frequency from there the reported frequency goes back up (e.g. 42,949.68kHz
is reported as 0.1).

Here is a capture of the information at some of these frequencies:

 Jim,

I tried all combinations of DTR/RTS with no luck. Here is a little bit
 more
 info that I do have.

Clicking on a packet spot correctly sets the rig frequency and mode.
 (e.g.
 18,101.30 USB)
If I then select Radio-Set Frequency the box pops up with the current
 frequency and mode displayed.(e.g.. 18,101.3)
If I then click the Read button, or if I just wait for a little bit
 (polling
time in radio setup?) it changes. (e.g. 1810,130.00)
If I change the frequency on the radio the Radio Frequency Control box
 will
update, but always with a bad freq (e.g. change to 14.336.68 and the
frequency in the dialog box says 1433,668.00).
Closing the dialog box and clicking Radio-Set Frequency brings the box
 back
up with the correct frequency (14,336.68) but it then changes to the wrong
 freq again.

 Thanks for your help,
 Rick

2. Check your radio's TRANSCEIVE setting. It shoud be in the OTHERS
menu. If it's NOT transceive, enable it. See if that makes a difference.

[Dx4win] Win NT Port Driver Error

2003-07-30 Thread Rick Stoneking
All,

I have a strange problem with V6.02 on my work computer which is running
Windows NT. A little background: I use the installation on my work
computer so that I can run various reports and print them on the nice
laserjet printer here. I have been a DX4WIN user since very early 2000 and
V6.02 is the fourth or fifth rev I have installed. I have always installed
the program on my work computer, it has always warned me that I do not have
administrator rights so I will not be able to install the CW port driver, I
have always just clicked the 'OK' button to continue, and the program has
always run. I do not actually have a radio at work so there is no problem
with the lack of a port driver.

However, with V6.02 (I did not attempt 6.00 or 6.01) everything looks the
same until I go to run the program and it tells me that it can not find the
port driver and it exits. The port driver is there, and if I log in as an
administrator the program runs fine. I have installed the program as an
administrator and it still will not run unless I am logged in with
administrator rights. I have installed the program as a non
administrator, then logged in with admin rights, extrated and copied the
port driver file, verified the program works, then log in without admin
rights and it will not run. What is most puzzling is the message that says
that it can not find the port driver which is there in the directory it is
supposed to be in!?

Anyone have any clue as to what is going on.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

[Dx4win] V6.02 question

2003-07-11 Thread Rick Stoneking
I have confirmed that the behaviour does not happen all the time. Last
night I tried to get it to happen and it would not. Others have also
stated that they see this same thing sometimes. It has been seen on XP and
Win98SE.

Thanks to all who replied.

Rick,

I cannot reproduce this behavior under Win98 or under WinXP.

[Dx4win] V6.02 question

2003-07-09 Thread Rick Stoneking
All,

I have noticed that since I upgraded to V6.02 that there is an annoying
behavior that did not happen in the 5.x versions. The problem is that when
I have DX4WIN open and I then open/switch to another window (web browser
for example) when I click the DX4WIN button on the start/programs bar at
the bottom of the screen to switch back to DX4WIN, only the window that was

was active when I switched to my web browser then that will be the only

[Dx4win] Soundcard questions

2002-11-18 Thread Rick Stoneking
Sorry if this is a bit off topic.

I have been trying to get my radio (TS-950SD) setup to use RTTY/PSK31 and I
have made the cable to go from the connector on the back of the radio to
the soundcard. I plugged the cable into the line in jack on the sound card
and could not get anything to work. I found that if I plugged the cable
into the mic input everything is fine - with the exception of the fact that
I now no longer have a microphone plugged into the computer - which I do
use for other things. The computer is a several year old Micron 230MHz
Pentium machine with the soundcard integrated on the motherboard.

Thanks,
Rick

Does anybody else have the problem that clicking the printer button on the
print preview screen does not actually cause anything to happen?
