[Dx4win] Error message
The following error message comes up too often and then disappears. I have the latest update as of July 17. And version 9.0.4.2176. Today it came up when I entered qso info from a recently received QSL card. As I picked up the phone to compose this message, the error message disappeared by itself. “an error occurred in the application. Choose either continue application, restart application, or close application. “ And it happened again when I entered information from another qsl card and I noticed the countdown clock at the top which says modified. when it hit modified with zero time, the error message came up and it still staying on the screen now for about 20 seconds and then disappeared What is going on here? [Dx4win] external data software such as hamcall, qrz, etc.
Revisiting the problem again on using an external call database with DX4WIN, I thought that DX4WIN would now work with the QRZ.com database. With my previous general logging software, WIN-EQF, I used the Buckmaster Hamcall CD info (which I put on the hard drive) and could populate name, address, grid, etc.- type info into the logging program by use of a function key. When I changed to DX4WIN, I found that DX4WIN did not offer this linkage to Hamcall so I no longer subscribed yearly to their call database. With all the recent changes to the QRZ.com site, I asked them for its compatibility to DX4WIN. Here is their answer today: DX4WIN has problems that prevent it from working with the Current QRZ system. Basically, the program is old and is no longer being maintained. There are a lot of other good programs that will work, such as WIN-EQF or Ham Radio Deluxe, both of which are current and being supported by their authors. Our XML subscription provides the most utility and is $29.95 per year. So do any of you DX4WIN users use a call database that, by use of a function key, will populate the entry window with the information so that it is saved in the contact info? In the preferences section of DX4WIN in the Data Sources, there is a listing of CDROMS such as Buckmaster, Flying Horse, QRZ, etc. that appear to be options to use. Also on this page is QRZ.com/db/ so what is the use of this listing? thanks, 73 Steve Sala K7AWB DN17es Nine Mile Falls, WA __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Dx4win] ghost reappearing
I have a deleted country contact that keeps reappearing as a non-deleted contact in DX4WIN. I wonder if every time the country list is updated that it makes my entry change? I worked VK9CH in Bougainville on phone on September 3, 1971 when it was in the Territory of New Guinea. I put it in DX4WIN as prefix vk9/t which makes it a deleted entity and gives me credit for it in my deleted totals. Several times a year, it becomes a VK9C entity which is Cocos (Keeling) Islands now. That adds one to my active phone country totals. Today I reconciled again DX4WIN records via their reports menu with the new ARRL totals I got today after a LOTW submittal. I was one country off and this has happened several times before, being one entry off, finding it during reconciliation. Jim ADC! Can you add this to the country list as a VK9/T so it always stays? Would that do it? Right now I am correcting the entry again to be a deleted Terr of New Guinea. When I do m, my phone totals is the same as the ARRL says. The VK9CH now shows as a deleted entity when I call it up. But it will not stay and the only thing I can see changing it without my approval is when the country list is updated? [Dx4win] dxcc vs. vucc
I worked a Hungary station on 6 meters on June 29th. A few days later, our LOTW uploads matched giving me a new country on 6 for DXCC. Unfortunately , he did not fill out his TQSL info so he had no zone or VUCC grid listed. So I did not get a VUCC match for his grid. In DX4WIN, I show a letter C for a confirmation on VUCC reports as well as the C for DXCC reports. It should NOT show a VUCC match because he did not list his grid. I have asked him 3 times to complete the TQSL info and resubmit all his erroneous uploads including mine (of course!), but he has not done it and may not understand my English or want to do it. I do have a card in the mail system which , if received some day, will satisfy the VUCC requirement for the ARRL. I solved my problem. I was mapping in TQSL the term RTTY to DATA so satisfy (what I thought was necessary) the DATA changes at ARRL for awards. I did not know I did not have to do this and I removed the mapping statement from my TQSL. I now works fine. Norm at HQ told me the mapping was to modify a non-standard mode to the standard ones so LOTW could recognize them. I agreed with the date, checked Include QSL detail and selected my call sign. I then clicked on Download report. I put the adif file in my Save directory. Inspecting the adif file through DX4WIN, it shows the many RTTY QSOs and has Data marked for the modes. Incidentally, in the DX4WIN Logbook, the contacts are marked as RTTY. In the exception file, it shows most of my RTTY contacts, all listed with an X on in the left column and the mode as SSB. This was a RTTY contest! [Dx4win] changes of zone without asking me!
I was in the OK RTTY contest this weekend and immediately moved my log info from WriteLog to DX4WIN and then to LOTW. The exchange was RST and CQ Zone. Many of the correctly received zones from other hams got changed when the file went over to DX4WIN as an adif file. Without my approval! For instance, W4GKM who gave me zone 4 was changed to 5. TN is a Zone 4 state, not 5. The program erroneously and immaturely saw the 4 in the W4 and thought it belongs in the zone where most W4's are normally are. NOT! With the advent of any call for any area, many hams do not represent the geographical state that their call would normally stand for. Another example: W2VKT from Arizona in Zone 3 got changed to, guess what, Zone 5 because of the W2 in his call. [Dx4win] cw contacts before 1975
My DX4WIN is crediting me with a CW QSO for the USA on 80 meters that occurred before Jan 1, 1975, the start date for CW credit. Those old QSOs only count for MIXED, not CW. How do I get a 1976 or later confirmed QSO or later into that slot? I tried to remove the confirmations from the 1950's QSOs that are giving me credit by changing the QSL confirmation from Y to N, but that just lies to the data base about my past QSOs and another pre-1975 pops up in that slot. This is also happening to me with Mexico and Canada so If WE solve it for the USA, I can solve it for the other countries. [Dx4win] pre 1976 cw qso

Fixed in 8.0x - I suggest you upgrade. 73 - Jim AD1C -- I am using VERSION 8.04. When I look at my REPORTS, DXCC, LISTING - and click on the C, it takes me to the QSO that is satisfying that criteria. That is the one I need to change to a 1976 or later for CW. so I can get it to show the *. What else do I do? [Dx4win] external data
I am trying to get additional info into the entry window by using my paid for Buckmaster Hamcall data. I download my Buckmaster Hamcall disk to my C: drive. I then put C:\ in the EXT DATA preference in the top two spaces: Buckmaster CDRom and c:\. I expect to put this data on individual hams into the entry window. I put in a new call into the entry window and use the space bar. I then use F3 to access external data. Up comes a separate window called CALLSIGN/ MGR LOOKUP. It has the name, address, grid, etc. on the ham whose call I put into the entry window. There is a button at the bottom of this Callsign/Mgr Lookup window called UPDATE QSO. I press it and nothing happens, I.e., the entry window is not populated with the information. What am I doing wrong? I read the entire manual (page 29-30) and cannot find what I do. Any help would be appreciated. 73 Steve Sala K7AWB DN17es Nine Mile Falls, WA 425 grids confirmed-6 meters __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] long lines in message
I just read a recent posting of mine in the archives dated today. It goes across the page and you have to use the horizontal elevator button to go to the right to view all of it. What am I doing wrong so I can correct it so it appears condensed like the other messages from other people? I am using windows live mail. [Dx4win] fred fish award
Jim That would be great. Right now, only QSL cards count towards the award, but soon, very soon, ARRL will open up their programming in LOTW for that to count for VUCC and Fred Fish award. That would mean a DX4WIN owner should have the method of saying they have a card or a LOTW credit for each of the 488 grids. The Fred Fish award seems to be equivalent to the DXCC Honor roll in which it takes many years, being at the right place when prop takes place, and having all those grids on the air to work. You are an asset to amateur radio! It would be possible for me to create a custom award module for the Fred Fish Award. In addition to filling in the grid square field in the log, you would also have to select FFMA from the Custom Award field, and then select the same grid AGAIN in the Custom Award Value field. If this is acceptable to people (and would work with older versions of DX4WIN also), let me know, and I'll see if I can make something over the weekend. 73 - Jim AD1C thanks to Jim! [Dx4win] fred fish award
I could not find the ARRL Fred Fish 6-meter award on the program. Will it soon be added? It is due to come up soon on the ARRL LOTW grid addition this month (I hope). 73 Steve Sala K7AWB DN17es Nine Mile Falls, WA 425 grids confirmed-6 meters __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] vucc/dxcc summary question
There are several headings for the columns such as: WORKED LABEL QSL SENT CONFIRMED SUBMIT CHECKED TOTAL TOT CONF What is the difference between the CONFIRMED and the TOT CONF columns? They appear to have the same counts. 73 Steve Sala K7AWB DN17es Nine Mile Falls, WA 425 grids confirmed-6 meters __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] searchable archives
1. Are there any? Not just archives in some order, but searchable like in Towertalk? 2. Where do I get the Icom IC-910 data to put it into DX4WIN? I am on line and new to it. 3. How do I put my Buckmaster data that I pay for into DX4WIN to populate the QSO data? This program looks exciting! 73 Steve Sala K7AWB DN17es Nine Mile Falls, WA 425 grids confirmed-6 meters __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
