[Dx4win] Error message

2018-07-17 Thread Steve K7AWB
The following error message comes up too often and then disappears. I have the
latest update as of July 17. And version 9.0.4.2176.

Today it came up when I entered qso info from a recently received QSL card. As
I picked up the phone to compose this message, the error message disappeared by
itself.

“an error occurred in the application. Choose either continue application,
restart application, or close application. “

And it happened again when I entered information from another qsl card and I
noticed the countdown clock at the top which says modified. when it hit
modified with zero time, the error message came up and it still staying on the
screen now for about 20 seconds and then disappeared

What is going on here?

[Dx4win] Converting Carrillo to acid

I got a friend to buy dx4win recently. His previous contacts are in adif and

[Dx4win] Packet windows in latest version

2018-03-20 Thread Steve K7AWB
After bringing up the two packet spot windows I cannot figure how to cancel
them. The upper right side X does not do anything. Of course I am talking about
the dxspots sorted by time window and the packet window. I use ve7cc-1. No
help from the help manual for closing them after a bye command.

AI have the latest standalone version of this program as version 3.024 on the
pc. The packet window from dx4win says it is using ve7cc-1, v 2.447. What
does that discrepancy mean?

Also I click on the band map when the packet is working but no visible map
shows?

[Dx4win] Ftdx5000 vs dx4win v9

2018-03-04 Thread Steve K7AWB
I swear that My Yaesu FTdx5000MP used to show the changing of the frequency
with a spin of the transceiver main dial faster then now. Now with version 9,
it takes 3+ seconds to show the changing frequency in the entry window. I have
both radio and preferences/ radio set for 19200 bps. I tried 38400 on both
without any luck. What am I missing?

[Dx4win] reinstall

2016-05-22 Thread Steve K7AWB
My main shack computer with DX4WIN went down and I am trouble shooting it. I
need to put my logging program on another computer in the shack. I have been
saving all my stuff on a USB drive automatically on the original computer.
What do I have to do to get the program on to the other computer and use it
until I figure what happened? All the computers are Windows 10.

[Dx4win] how to answer bureau cards

2015-02-10 Thread Steve K7AWB
I've got a pile of cards to answer with bureau cards from me. The usual
type, mostly Japan and probably none help my DXCC standings. I would like
to enter them in my logging program with a Y in the QSL label box so the
labels will print. But I also have many legitimate contacts that I needs
cards from already marked in the program. I usually batch sending out cards
every month or two depending on the quantity and importance to me.

So how do I mark the bureau cards for labels yet not mix them up with the
more important cards I have on hold in the program?

Re: [Dx4win] flying horse callbook

2013-07-18 Thread Steve K7AWB
Thanks Jim. I ordered the disk from John after reading a previous posting
of yours on the subject. I'll try it out and see what it gives me. But, of
course, there is nothing more frustrating then to make a contact, have the
guy say hello Steve and you wonder who he is. I usually keep QRZ.com up
on the second computer so I can get names quickly unless it is one of the
many 15 second QSOs on 6 meters that fade out before much of an exchange.

Hi Steve,

It should work. RAC gives you the most fields for which you can
Update QSO in F3 window. It can populate state, county and grid,
but not Name or City.

I received a 2013 Summer Flying Horse Callbook today on a
USB Thumb Drive. It is formatted the same as the CD type
and works great with DX4WIN.
It is so much better than the CD version in that a F3 inquiry is
instantaneous. No waiting for the idle CD to spin up and seek.
Also freed up my CD/DVD drive.

It is from Radio Amateur Callbook with the proper logo...

I got mine from Duane Heise, AA6EE

He is an official ARRL dealer.

I sure they are also available at www.callbook.biz

[Dx4win] external data software such as hamcall, qrz, etc.

2013-02-26 Thread Steve K7AWB
Revisiting the problem again on using an external call database with DX4WIN,
I thought that DX4WIN would now work with the

QRZ.com database. With my previous general logging software, WIN-EQF, I
used the Buckmaster Hamcall CD info (which I put on the hard drive) and
could populate name, address, grid, etc.- type info into the logging program
by use of a function key. When I changed to DX4WIN, I found that DX4WIN did
not offer this linkage to Hamcall so I no longer subscribed yearly to their
call database.

With all the recent changes to the QRZ.com site, I asked them for its
compatibility to DX4WIN. Here is their

answer today:

DX4WIN has problems that prevent it from working with the Current QRZ
system. Basically, the program is old and is no longer being maintained.
There are a lot of other good programs that will work, such as WIN-EQF or
Ham Radio Deluxe, both of which are current and being supported by their
authors. Our XML subscription provides the most utility and is $29.95 per
year.

So do any of you DX4WIN users use a call database that, by use of a function
key, will populate the entry window with the information so that it is saved
in the contact info?

In the preferences section of DX4WIN in the Data Sources, there is a listing
of CDROMS
such as Buckmaster, Flying Horse, QRZ, etc. that appear to be options to
use. Also on this page is QRZ.com/db/ so what is the use of this listing?

thanks,

[Dx4win] second log

2012-12-14 Thread Steve K7AWB

I am confused on starting a second log.

I want to have a log for my contest station call in DX4WIN. So I go to
FILE/NEW and give the second log a new file name. Then it appears on the
screen. I go to
FILE/PREFERENCES and find that all my data for my original log has
populated
the preferences. I go to PERSONAL to accept almost everything the same
except the call

letters. I attempt to change my call of K7AWB to the other
call and I cannot change it. I can change the rest of the address if I
wanted though.

How do I get around this?

[Dx4win] ghost reappearing

2012-12-13 Thread Steve K7AWB

I have a deleted country contact that keeps reappearing as a non-deleted
contact in DX4WIN. I wonder if every time the country list is updated that it
makes my entry change?

I worked VK9CH in Bougainville on phone on September 3, 1971 when it was in the
Territory of New Guinea. I put it in DX4WIN as prefix vk9/t which makes it a
deleted entity and gives me credit for it in my deleted totals. Several times
a year, it becomes a VK9C entity which is Cocos (Keeling) Islands now. That
adds one to my active phone country totals. Today I reconciled again DX4WIN
records via their reports menu with the new ARRL totals I got today after a
LOTW submittal. I was one country off and this has happened several times
before, being one entry off, finding it during reconciliation.

Jim ADC! Can you add this to the country list as a VK9/T so it always stays?
Would that do it?

Right now I am correcting the entry again to be a deleted Terr of New Guinea.
When I do m, my phone totals is the same as the ARRL says. The VK9CH now shows
as a deleted entity when I call it up.

But it will not stay and the only thing I can see changing it without my
approval is when the country list is updated? Just wondering??

[Dx4win] dxcc vs. vucc

2012-09-11 Thread Steve K7AWB
I worked a Hungary station on 6 meters on June 29th. A few days later, our
LOTW uploads matched giving me a new country on 6 for DXCC. Unfortunately ,
he did not fill out his TQSL info so he had no zone or VUCC grid listed. So
I did not get a VUCC match for his grid.

In DX4WIN, I show a letter C for a confirmation on VUCC reports as well as
the C for DXCC reports. It should NOT show a VUCC match because he did
not list his grid. I have asked him 3 times to complete the TQSL info and
resubmit all his erroneous uploads including mine (of course!), but he has
not done it and may not understand my English or want to do it. I do have a
card in the mail system which , if received some day, will satisfy the VUCC
requirement for the ARRL.

But can't DX4WIN handle my situation so I do not show that the his grid has
been confirmed?

[Dx4win] LOTW

2012-01-11 Thread Steve K7AWB
I solved my problem. I was mapping in TQSL the term RTTY to DATA so satisfy
(what I thought was necessary) the DATA changes at ARRL for awards. I did
not know I did not have to do this and I removed the mapping statement from
my TQSL. I now works fine. Norm at HQ told me the mapping was to modify a
non-standard mode to the standard ones so LOTW could recognize them. For
instance, if your logging program used the term PH for PHONE you would have
to map (change) the PH to PHONE in your submittals. Sorry for the fire. me
bad.

[Dx4win] LOTW problem

2012-01-10 Thread Steve K7AWB
I was in the RTTY RU contest this last weekend and made about 890 QSOs. I
uploaded the contest to LOTW last night and this morning saw the results.
About 40% of the contacts matched in LOTW. My matches went from 5458 to 5819.

Since I am using the latest DX4WIN, I went to LOTWs Your QSOs page and
selected Download Report. I agreed with the date, checked Include QSL
detail and selected my call sign. I then clicked on Download report. I put
the adif file in my Save directory. Inspecting the adif file through DX4WIN,
it shows the many RTTY QSOs and has Data marked for the modes. Incidentally,
in the DX4WIN Logbook, the contacts are marked as RTTY.

In the exception file, it shows most of my RTTY contacts, all listed with an X
on in the left column and the mode as SSB. This was a RTTY contest!

I went back to a November exception report and also the RTTY contacts there
showed in the exception report as SSB also.

What is going on here?

[Dx4win] band mode preferences

2012-01-07 Thread Steve K7AWB
There are several places where I can select my band preferences and modes of
operation so the unused choices do not get in the way of my particular
operating bands and modes. It minimizes wasted time and mistakes. So under
STATION PREFERENCES, I can select the bands and modes I use. Also in PACKET
3.

But in the ENTRY WINDOW, I have to go through all the possible bands and modes
when again I need to narrow them down to what I use in my particular operation.
Did I miss the place where I can select my particular operating bands and
modes, and not have the others in the way, in the entry window?. There are 38
modes to select from and 22 bands there

How can I have only my bands and modes to show in the entry window to speed up
the entry of contacts?

[Dx4win] changes of zone without asking me!

2011-12-18 Thread Steve K7AWB
I was in the OK RTTY contest this weekend and immediately moved my log info

Many of the correctly received zones from other hams got changed when the file
went over to DX4WIN as an adif file. Without my approval!

For instance, W4GKM who gave me zone 4 was changed to 5. TN is a Zone 4
state, not 5. The program erroneously and immaturely saw the 4 in the W4 and
thought it belongs in the zone where most W4's are normally are. NOT! With
the advent of any call for any area, many hams do not represent the
geographical state that their call would normally stand for. Another example:
W2VKT from Arizona in Zone 3 got changed to, guess what, Zone 5 because of the
W2 in his call.

How can I prevent this from happening next time?

[Dx4win] sort index for report generator

2011-11-09 Thread Steve K7AWB
There are many selections in the Sort Index when printing a report except
country. There is county, but not country. What will it take to add this? I
would rather list some things by country than prefix.

[Dx4win] merge question

2011-03-31 Thread Steve K7AWB
A friend has his DX4WIN log which may be missing several thousand QSOs due to
an error in a previous competitive program (made before the transfer to DX4WIN
as the new main logging program now). I have a special adif download from LOTW
which may include those missing QSOs. How can I merge the downloaded file into
the main log, but prevent duplicates? I made a special DX4WIN log of the 50K+
QSOs adif's for an easy merge.

What defines a duplicate QSO from a non-duplicate QSO? I mean how many
parameters must match to be a dup?

[Dx4win] ft-2000 rig control

2011-02-17 Thread Steve K7AWB
Me bad; I did not have the RTS and other one marked. Once I did that, it
works fine although it only shows the transmit frequency. During split, I
would like to record both, transmit and receive, but I don't see a place
that that would automatically be recorded to. This manual recording is for
the birds. In a fast moving contest or just Summer 6 meter Es, one needs to
work them before they disappear into the QSB. Thanks for the help.

[Dx4win] ft-2000 on dx4win

2011-02-16 Thread Steve K7AWB
I cannot get my Yaesu FT-2000 to work with the program as in showing the
transceiver frequency. I went to Jim's (AD1C) support page having the
DX4WIN archives and could not find anything helpful except notes from other
people who had the same problem. I see Jim has a rig file on it, but I don't
know what the rig file is or what I do with it. Do I put it somewhere in the
folders for the program? Do I replace what is there, where ever it is,
with his? I'm getting tired of manual inputting while my Icom IC-756proIII
works fine in these details.

[Dx4win] changing flags

2011-01-31 Thread Steve K7AWB
I have 425 50 MHz grids confirmed with 7 cards outstanding. All the 425 are
flagged in the VUCC reports with a C which means I got cards to confirm them.
I need to change all those 425 C flags to an * to show that I have
submitted them and ARRL has approved them for VUCC. How do I do that globally?
This occurred when I migrated WIN-EQF over and maybe pressed a few wrong
buttons when I was learning. hihi

[Dx4win] cw contacts before 1975

2011-01-29 Thread Steve K7AWB
My DX4WIN is crediting me with a CW QSO for the USA on 80 meters that occurred
before Jan 1, 1975, the start date for CW credit. Those old QSOs only count
for MIXED, not CW.

How do I get a 1976 or later confirmed QSO or later into that slot? I tried to
remove the confirmations from the 1950's QSOs that are giving me credit by
changing the QSL confirmation from Y to N, but that just lies to the data base
about my past QSOs and another pre-1975 pops up in that slot. This is also
happening to me with Mexico and Canada so If WE solve it for the USA, I can
solve it for the other countries.

Thanks,

[Dx4win] pre 1976 cw qso

Fixed in 8.0x - I suggest you upgrade.

I am using VERSION 8.04. When I look at my REPORTS, DXCC, LISTING - and click
on the C, it takes me to the QSO that is satisfying that criteria. That is
the one I need to change to a 1976 or later for CW. so I can get it to show the
*. What else do I do?

[Dx4win] external data

2011-01-09 Thread Steve K7AWB
I am trying to get additional info into the entry window by using my paid for
Buckmaster Hamcall data.

I download my Buckmaster Hamcall disk to my C: drive. I then put C:\ in the
EXT DATA preference in the top two spaces: Buckmaster CDRom and c:\.

I expect to put this data on individual hams into the entry window.

I put in a new call into the entry window and use the space bar. I then use F3
to access external data. Up comes a separate window called CALLSIGN/ MGR
LOOKUP. It has the name, address, grid, etc. on the ham whose call I put into
the entry window.

There is a button at the bottom of this Callsign/Mgr Lookup window called
UPDATE QSO. I press it and nothing happens, I.e., the entry window is not
populated with the information. What am I doing wrong? I read the entire
manual (page 29-30) and cannot find what I do.

Any help would be appreciated.

[Dx4win] long lines in message

2011-01-09 Thread Steve K7AWB
I just read a recent posting of mine in the archives dated today. It goes
across the page and you have to use the horizontal elevator button to go
to the right to view all of it. What am I doing wrong so I can correct it
so it appears condensed like the other messages from other people? I am
using windows live mail.

[Dx4win] fred fish award

2011-01-07 Thread Steve K7AWB
Jim

That would be great. Right now, only QSL cards count towards the award, but
soon, very soon, ARRL will open up their programming in LOTW for that to
count for VUCC and Fred Fish award. That would mean a DX4WIN owner should
have the method of saying they have a card or a LOTW credit for each of the
488 grids.

The Fred Fish award seems to be equivalent to the DXCC Honor roll in which
it takes many years, being at the right place when prop takes place, and
having all those grids on the air to work.

You are an asset to amateur radio!

It would be possible for me to create a custom award module for the Fred
Fish Award. In addition to filling in the grid square field in the log,
you would also have to select FFMA from the Custom Award field, and then
select the same grid AGAIN in the Custom Award Value field.

If this is acceptable to people (and would work with older versions of
DX4WIN also), let me know, and I'll see if I can make something over the
weekend.

[Dx4win] vucc/dxcc summary question

2010-12-30 Thread Steve K7AWB
There are several headings for the columns such as:

WORKED
LABEL
QSL SENT
CONFIRMED
SUBMIT
CHECKED
TOTAL
TOT CONF

What is the difference between the CONFIRMED and the TOT CONF columns?
They appear to have the same counts.

[Dx4win] searchable archives

2010-12-28 Thread Steve K7AWB
1. Are there any? Not just archives in some order, but searchable like in
Towertalk?

2. Where do I get the Icom IC-910 data to put it into DX4WIN? I am on line and
new to it.

3. How do I put my Buckmaster data that I pay for into DX4WIN to populate the
QSO data?

This program looks exciting!
