[Dx4win] MMTTY setup

Hi trying to setup MMTTY as per dx4win but the link is Not working?
The MMTTY program is not included as part of DX4WIN; you will need to
download and install the program separately. Visit the MMTTY website to
download the software at http://mmhamsoft.amateur-radio.ca/mmtty.
Anyone have a webpage that works?

I know that at one time at least, there was a way to set the speed of the cw
announcements of dx spots. I can't find it in the program documentation.
There is a note which says, essentially, 'check under preferences/CW
keyboard/speed' but there is nothing in that screen which even references
setting speed. Old idea, newer documentation, missing something, perhaps???

Re: [Dx4win] Prefix Logic

2012-01-09 Thread WO2N
Hi Bob, that makes a lot of sense, and easier to remember.
There are, I guess always going to be exceptions to the rule, like VK9HR
this summer, was on Lord Howl.
I have a VK9TR from Willis Is.
Pays to double check countries with multi prefixes, you could be holding a
rare one, hi.

It appears to me that an Entity like Willis would have VK9W because
Australia actually issues the Calls for there specifically as VK9Wxx.
So, the Entity would be obvious from the Call.

However, some Countries use the same prefix for several ARRL Entities and
there needs to be some way to differentiate them in the database.
An HK0 could be San Andres or Malpelo, so a /M is put after the HK0 to
specifically denote it as Malpelo. Other eaxmples would be FR and JD1 versus
PY0Txx and CE0Yxx.

IMHO

Looking at the prefix list, What's the reasoning for  some  multi-prefix
countries identified by forward stroked, and others are not?
Example Willis is VK9W, but Malpelo is HK0/M.
When I search via prefix I don't kn if it wants a / or not..

The simple answer is that if a sub-prefix can be specified that is unique to
that DXCC entity (i.e. PY0F, PY0S, PY0T or VK9W, VK9L, VK9C), then that
prefix (without the slash) is used as the reference
prefix. HK0M is not a unique prefix for Malpelo; in fact, other than HK0TU,
and an HK5/0 that was on a few years ago, I don't know that any other
callsign has been used from there. HK0 is/was also used from San Andres,
Bajo Nuevo and Seranna Bank. So that is why the / notation is used. Same
for VP8s, E5, FO, etc.

[Dx4win] Submission Total vs. Submit

Getting ready for ARRL submission.
Interesting, my submission totals 271 QSO. My submit shows Band total

The only way I see to cross balance or prove out or match, is to reduce mode
total by band mode QSO's, because they add to band and mode, but only show
up in submission as 1.
This would leave submit for mode only. When I do this I get 271.
Coincidence or real deal?
I have no dupes.
Band=260 +11 =271 submission

mode= 26

Band/mode=-15

Mode only+11
Submission = Band + Mode only. True?

Bernie,

The latest versions of DX4Win work fine on Windows 7. You have to install
DX4WIN with administrator privileges (right click on the file, run as
administrator) or you need to install it at the C:\ level, not in Program
Files.

But I sincerely suggest upgrading to version 8 which has notes in it about
using DX4Win on Windows 7. Then your CW and Help will work fine. There are
also many new features in the latest version.

[Dx4win] New Laptop win7

2011-08-18 Thread wo2n
Hi, I need some help and info. I know this is an old problem for most
I use DX4win 5.03. I just installed, installed 5.03 copied my newer save
files to new computer.
I had a tower with xp and LPT ports and serial ports. I used a home made
cable we made for CT (with the transister) to key from LPT port to radio
keyer
Now with the new laptop, I of course neither ports.

So I get errors packet failed to open, and more important could not open
CW driver.
So how do I set this up to send CW from DX4win via program keyboard?

Also I use CT for contesting CW, (and some phone) so I will also like to set
CT up to work also.

I would say I need a USB port work around?
I have DX4win program loaded and up to date.

BTW when I started DX4win the preference window had no info in it, so I
merged the ini file, and I was shocked it actually loaded all my info in
blink of eye! What a blessing, that was. 2 days customizing the new laptop
and not finished yet!

Tnx 73 de Bernie/WO2N.

I have updated the utility to compare your DX4WIN DXCC credits with
ARRL Logbook of the World: You can download version 4.0 from:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/lotw/

This version adds full support for the new PJ entities, now that ARRL
has added them to the Award Credit Matrix on LoTW. You must use a
DX4WIN country file from 4 October 2010 or later to get proper
results.

Please let me know if you have any problems.

Here I sat for 2 days pondering. I do know I saw it disappear when I accidently

I really like the map, I never used it the first couple years.
Anyway I didn't see any reference to Map Window in help.

First, click on the map so that it is selected, and press W which should
set up for a world view. If still nothing, got through all the settings to make
sure everything is reasonable. Under Projection, I have it set to Mercator,
under Draw I have World and Great Circle checked, and I have Show Spot Country,
Day and Night, and Update Day and Night. If that still doesn't help, try
resizing the window. Also, you can move what's in the map window by clicking
and dragging in the window. It might be that somehow the actual map portion is
off the screen.

Bernie - did you really mean version 5.03? and not maybe 8.03?

I cannot speak for 5.03 but all recent versions have been very accurate,
based on DECIMAL long and lat coordinates. If you have Minutes and
Seconds, you will need to convert those to decimal equivalent.

I used Google Earth to get accurate numbers.

If you have the updated country file from AD1C they should show up flagged in
the appropriate colors whenever they appear. If you had them as a callsign
alert it'd show up on every spot, which I'd assume would get annoying pretty
quickly.

However, here's the help file info for that field:

  Callsign Alert

If you specify a callsign in this field, DX spots will be monitored for this
callsign regardless of band or mode. The spot will have the same color as if it
was a new country. Multiple calls can be specified by separating the calls by a
comma. In addition, you can use the '*' (asterisk) as a wild character match as
the first or the last character in a callsign. For example, the string P5*,*/P5
will match any North Korea station, including a portable callsign. In addition
to callsigns specified in this field, callsigns specified in the membership
list using the '@' character can be treated as if they were specified here. You
will also have to enable the 'Check @ callsigns' option on the Packet2 tab.

Re: [Dx4win] Wild Card???

2010-10-14 Thread wo2n
Hi Jim, In version 5.3, the PJ* don't work as a wild card.

I tried for 1 hr today, different ways to Alert, other than a Known Full
Callsign.

Guess the is no way to adjust it.

Yes, you can put PJ* in the Callsign Alert field in your PACKET1
preferences. The spots will come up as black-on-yellow (i.e. new
all-time, never worked). Even if you work the station, it will STILL
come up as black-on-yellow the next time. This has worked since
Version 7, maybe earlier.

The yellow/blue/red spots work fine for me with the latest country
file. Just work all the PJ stations you hear that are not
gray-on-white or black-on-white. Using the wildcard, you'll have to
check each call to see if you have worked them before, not as
effective IMO.

[Dx4win] adding QSO off line and F2

Hi, ran into this problem.
I rec QSL card, need for NEW Band. DX4win shows I mailed (M) different call.
When I ADDQSO OFF LINE, ck cfm and hit F2 DX4win does not ask if I want to
submit card???
I have to hit enter the Q is logged, then reopen hit F2 then it asks me if I
want to submit.
In other words F2 doesn't respond if QSO is previously entered and logged.
I use older version 5.2, maybe this is resolved?

No such thing Bernie. DX4Win is till using an archaic method of generating
the sidetone using the PC speaker which was really only intended to give
audible beeps for troubleshooting computers long before sound hardware was
standard. Hopefully it is one of the items on Paul's todo list.

[Dx4win] More on Labels

2009-12-14 Thread wo2n
Hi, here's one I have been dealing with for a while. I use a 1x4 label.
I set the size for 1x4

Yet when I print the label it only uses the space of a 1 x 25/8 label.

I tried with regular choice of label, now I use a custom size fits better,
but the label only uses the left side to the width of a 25/8 label.

So how do I get DX4win to Stretch-out the report and use the full label
space?

I'm using and earlier version 5.03 if that matters?

DX4Win generates the CW using the PC Speaker in the computer
enclosure. This is NOT connected to the sound card... it is a simple
programmable beeper dating back to the earliest PCs and is used, for
example, to issue POST BIOS warnings.

If you are not hearing the CW your PC speaker may not be connected... or
perhaps your PC doesn't even have one.

I have suggested to Paul (a long time ago) that he consider supporting
CW through the sound card. I imagine it's somewhere on his todo list...

The QSL Manager field in the QSO window has to have the same callsign.
 Then it should print.

There should be a better way to do this! Maybe DIRECT should bypass
the QSL manager field check. I think the problem is that the QSL
method is independent of direct/manager the way you and I think of it
(since there is no *manager* QSL method).

Re: [Dx4win] lotw totals?

2009-08-19 Thread wo2n
Hi,
I think I found the reason. I chose a later *START* date for LOTW,
than my uploaded logbook, So the earlier QSO's were not picked up by LOTW.
Plus there are dupes in my DX4win log.
tnx for your replies, 73 Bernie/WO2N.

Hi, I just uploaded 5414 QSO my dx4win log to lotw.
Why is lotw say I have 5275 QSO? difference of 139 QSO less?

If you copied the files from CD, they may all be read-only on your hard drive.

Try giving all the files write permission and see if the problem goes away.

What do you mean by RTTY telnet? I've never heard of this!

If you mean telnet to a DX Cluster, you must configure Packet1 preferences
to Type=Regular, COM Port=TCP/IP.

Then when the Packet Window comes up, right-click and select Internet
connection.

Yes I am talking about DX4WIN (ver 7.04).

Some years ago when DX4WIN first allowed getting Internet spots, I followed
some instructions for making it work. They involved using the RTTY window.

I do not use RTTY at my station, but I have my Preferences for RTTY set to
Type=Regular and Port=TCP/IP. When I go to the RTTY window, right click to
get
the popup, Internet connection is one of the options. This gets me spots in
the

Packet window. Try it.

I see now that I can also get the Internet connection option from the popup
in
the Packet window, but I have just continued using my original way of
getting

spots activated via the RTTY window.

Are you sure you're talking about DX4WIN and not some other program,
like Writelog? The RTTY window in DX4WIN has nothing to do with packet.

The RTTY window layout *may* resemble the packet window, but the RTTY
window says RTTY at the top, and the Packet Window says Packet
Window at the top.

If you can send me some screen captures, I might be able to understand
what you think you see.

Honestly, I did not know you can do that. But it does work.

I guess the differences it that when using the RTTY window as you
describe, the DX Spots window is not active in this configuration. I.e.
you don't get the benefits of DX4WIN filtering the spots to tell you which
ones are needed.

--- in window, save it, but when I look at submission list the QSO are
still there, and looking at QSO it changed back to subm! Going round and
round here and not able to remove them from subm list.

Any suggestions appreciated.

[Dx4win] Dupes?

2008-03-15 Thread wo2n
Hi,
Just wondering why I have 17QSO out of 5K flagged to print a label?
These QSO are random, dupes of a actual good QSO, (not confirmed yet) the
dupe is marked for a label , that I did NOT create. I deleted them after
searching my log.
I must admit I have exported and imported my log several times, and the cty
file old and new, when I did the latest country upgrade. Just expermenting
and checking for errors, and self learning how it works.Strange don't know
why.
Secondly, is there any search filter to find duplicate QSO'S in your log?
Tnx es 73 de Bernie/WO2N.

The HOLDING toggles on automatically even when I toggle it off. Is there a
way to stop this behavior? Also, I am confused, I thought HOLDING is ON
means no spots insert into the window, but I see new spots appearing.

It happens here, too. If I am transmitting RTTY when the CW spot comes,
it will slow down dramatically and possibly spoil the QSO. Otherwise I

They usually contain software that you install to do that.

Windows XP recognzies some manufacturers' UPS. Go to Control Pane -

Kosova and Adding New Countries to DXCC

 Feb 19, 2008 16:53 ET
 Bill Moore, NC1L

Naturally there are many questions about the DXCC status of Kosova, and
 whether
or not it will be added to the DXCC list.

The DXCC rules, which were modified in 2000 to better handle inclusion to
 DXCC,
are clear on how additions can be made:

For inclusion in the DXCC List, conditions as set out below must be met.
Listing is not contingent upon whether operation has occurred or will
 occur,
but only upon the qualifications of the Entity.

Political Entities, Geographical Entities, Special Areas

#1, Political Entities is the category with which we are concerned with
 respect
 to Kosova.

 1. Political Entities:

Political Entities are those areas which are separated by reason of
 government
or political division. They generally contain an indigenous population
 which is
not predominantly composed of military or scientific personnel.

An Entity will be added to the DXCC List as a Political Entity if it meets
 one
or more of the following criteria:

 a) The entity is a UN Member State.

 b) The entity has been assigned a callsign prefix bloc by the ITU. (The
exceptions to this rule are international organizations, such as the UN
 and
ICAO. These Entities are classified under Special Areas, 3.a); and
 Ineligible
Areas, 4.b).) A provisional prefix bloc assignment may be made by the
 Secretary
General of ITU. Should such provisional assignments not be ratified later
 by
the full ITU, the Entity will be removed from the DXCC List.

 c) The Entity contains a permanent population, is administered by a local
government, and is located at least 800 km from its parent. To satisfy the
permanent population and administered by a local government criteria
 of
this sub-section, an Entity must be listed on either (a) the U.S.
 Department of
State's list of Dependencies and Areas of Special Sovereignty as having
 a
local Administrative Center, or (b) the United Nations list of
 Non-Self-Governing Territories.

New Entities satisfying one or more of the conditions above will be added
 to
the DXCC List by administrative action as of their Event Date.

So, Kosovo will be added to the DXCC list if it becomes a member of the
 UN, or
(2), if it receives a prefix bloc from the ITU. The third condition does
 not
apply. The date upon which either (1) or (2) occurs will be the event
 date.

My 2 cents is that an overall better solution is to keep your computer on
a small interruptible power supply (UPS). You don't need one that will
last that long (5 or 10 minutes is fine), and there are plenty of small
ones available from companies like APC (www.apc.com), Belkin
(www.belkin.com) and Ultra (www.ultraproducts.com) for well under $100.
(I personally have at least one from each of those companies at home,
with a somewhat larger Ultra that powers a couple of computers, most of
my network gear, and a few other things.)

The advantage of this is that in the event of a power outage, you will
not only have the time to save the QSO, but you can also shut your
computer down in an orderly fashion. Many of these products will connect
to your computer and will shut it down after a specified set of
conditions are met (e.g., backup battery has been running and has 'x'%
power left, etc.), meaning that even if you're not there, your computer
 will still shut down properly.

Even with a system that writes to disk upon save, there is still a small
window where a QSO could be lost, although I can understand the
frustration at loosing any data for any reason.

As for your specific suggestion, there are utility programs that will
make a key sequence to any arbitrarily complex set of other key sequences
(and some will get a lot more complicated, simulating mouse movement and
mouse button clicks), though personally I don't use them so I can't give
 a recommendation.

 W5LT wrote:
I am not a computer wizard, but is it possible to program an unused
 function
key (say F12) to execute: enter alt s sequence ??
That way you could enter QSO (from a spot) and write to disk with one
 button.
That would be a neat solution. Just a thought.
 Bob, W5LT

double-click in the entry in the DX spots window and move that spot into

I have the F2 key checked in preferences, , and all the awards checked.
When I bring up the QSO, (and its a new mode) and enter Y for Cfm then
hit F2, it toggles the Y to N.
I never have seen any alerts windows pop up?
 What's going on?

[Dx4win] F2 Key?

2007-01-14 Thread wo2n
Hi,
Dx4win says the F2 key can be programmed to alert you of different awards a
QSL Card could apply for when confirming (Y). This would be nice in tracking
a QSO for awards.
*BUT* it doesn't say how ???
Anyone working this angle?
Tnx es 73,
de Bernie/WO2N.

[Dx4win] DX Spotting Window

2007-01-06 Thread wo2n
Hi, Is there anyway to stop the DX window from updating by overwriting
itself, as the same called out spot come in???
I would like to see ALL the spots on the DX screen, with all the comments
like the RTTY window lists them as the spots come in.
This would let me have one color screen to focus on, and follow the DX,
splits, patterns ect.
Thanks. Bernie/WO2N.
It was making me nuts seeing a spot come in, then its gone!

You probably have the spot window sorted By Time. If you sort By
Arrival you will get all the dupes.
