[Dx4win] dx spots window

2020-03-06 Thread ON5GM
Hello everyone,
I have a small problem with dx4win. At the bottom I have the dx-spots
window. When I click on the sign, the window is gone, which is normal. But
after that I can't find it anywhere. No, it is not hidden behind other
windows. Previously with windows 7 I could find the closed window at the
bottom of the taskbar, but now with windows 10 not. I now have to close and
restart dx4win. Does it depend on the program or on windows 10?

T77C showed up on 17M FT8 highlighted dark blue (Needed New Mode). The

Of course if you do that, you'll no longer be able to go click on a spot
and have your radio automatically tune to the frequency and correct mode of
the spot ( if you have your radio linked to your computer).

Go to your preferences, Packet 2 tab. Look for a box called "DX
spotting patterns". Remove (erase) this one:

f|c|d|tZ|q|

Then Save Changes and Exit.

I had similar problem with ve7cc recently. I thought that he has a
problem and changed to ae5e and seems ok. I didn't examine if I loose

did it when the put ft8 spots in RBN. I unchecked ft8 and asked for grey
spots to be ignored (file>preferences>packet1>Spots to ignore). Maybe
some of the "lost" QSOs is really grey.

There is no MODE field in the DX Spots window. DX4WIN determines the
mode from the frequency, based on the CW/SSB cutoffs in your QSO
preferences. DX4WIN can not determine the mode for Digital spots
(RTTY, PSK, etc.) unless the mode was put there by the spotting
station, which shows up in the spot comments field, for example:

   DX 14080 T2GC up 2-5 RTTY

This can also cause problems, for example:

   DX 10110 R0ABC up 2 when SSB?

This will cause DX4WIN to switch the mode to SSB because of the spot
comment.

So in summary:

1. no mode field in DX spots window
2. CW/SSB determined by spot frequency and QSO cutoff frequency preferences
2. digital spots must have the correct MODE specified in the spot comment

[Dx4win] DX spots mode display?

2015-09-24 Thread RadioDen45
When I click on a spot in the band map my radio jumps to the correct spot
frequency but not the correct mode, in some cases

DX4WIN V8.05 shows the correct mode (mode selected in the radio when there
connected) but if I click on an RTTY spot the radio will go to the correct
frequency but may change modes to CW or DIGL or SSB?

I’m running the Flex 6500 and using the “Flexradio” RADIO profile and
everything but the digital mode selection is working...

Should I have a MODE data column displayed in my DX SPOTS window for this to
work properly? If so I could not find where to add mode information to the
display?

One solution would be if I clock on a spot and only the frequency goes to the
radio and not the mode. Is this possible? I searched through the help files
for several hours and cannot find an answer... DX4WIN is a very sophisticated
program with enormous flexibility so I hope there is an easy solution I missed.

Would appreciate any help from the members

The Time column shows the time since the spot was sent. It's going up
since it's been "x" minutes since it was received, where "x" increased
by one each minute.

Hi Bob,

This sounds like an issue between you and the ISP. Unfortunately,
these problems are hard to solve. Have you tried connecting to a
different DX Cluster node? Is the problem the same?

My suggestion would be to use the VE7CC CC User program between your
DX Cluster node and DX4WIN (CC User connects to the node, DX4WIN
connects to localhost). This program does auto-reconnect very well,
and I can stay connected for days, even on my wireless network.

http://bcdxc.org/ve7cc/

This software does *NOT* support AR-Cluster nodes. I hope your
preferred node is running either CC Cluster or DX Spider.

You can set certain callsigns as 'alerts'. They will then show up as
Priority 1 spots.

It's in FilePreferencesPacket1 - then type the call into the Callsign
alert box. Save exit,.

Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots in color

2013-03-24 Thread Bud Semon N7CW
Pat - the smartass answer is Work them! Easier said than done for sure.

You may have a 6M QSO accidentally entered as C5 or TK. Try Filtering (F8)
on C5 (after hitting F8, put your cursor in the Prefix window and hit F1.
Type The and select The Gambia) and filter on 6M (move your cursor into
Band and select 6m). The hit Enter. Any 6M QSO for C5 will show up in the
log entry window. Sorry if this is over-explained.

Hope that works.

don't you use VE7CC's software. It does work with DX4Win and it's free.

Highest-priority spots are at the bottom of the list, lowest-priority
spots are at the top. Lowest priority includes stations you've
already worked that are grayed out. Could that be your problem?

[Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2011-10-11 Thread Gary Strong
I am using DX4WIN version 8.05 and use the dxspots window get info from
either a direct telnet link to a cluster or the VE7CC cluster / software
program.

I like to see spots sorted by frequency, but when I do this and I scroll to
the top of the window to grab a spot, the curser immediately goes down to
the bottom of the window showing 10 meter spots. Is there any way to limit
the spots shown to just one band, or if not how can I use the window sorted
by frequency without it jumping down to the bottom each time.

While I can easily do this in the VE7CC program, it won't change the radio
frequency by double clicking on the spot.

No, it's the 25 spots that refreshes. You can make any line auto refresh
by appending a | and the number of minutes.

However, you should *NOT* auto refresh large numbers of spots as this
would be an inconsiderate waste of the spot server's bandwidth.

If you want history, initially download 1000 spots then switch to the 25
spot feed.

Frankly, unless you are behind a firewall, you should use the telnet
clusters not the web server.

Why should I use a telnet cluster instead of the server?

Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2011-08-15 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
The spots that you get from a cluster come in as a steady stream, in
essentially real-time. Most, if not all, cluster systems on the Internet
are interconnected so the old concept of connecting to one close to you
to pick up locally spotted DX doesn't apply. Some clusters do have
filtering on them so that they only display spots from a particular
country, though I don't think that the one on K1TTT does that.

I'd turn your question around and ask why you'd want to use a web-based
one with only periodic refreshes? The one possible reason would be if
you were behind a firewall that blocked access on the ports required for
use by the cluster nodes themselves. While I don't normally use the
K1TTT node I do use it as a backup for when my primary one goes down.
I've never found that it's missing spots so I'm not sure why you are
having issues.

I had initially suggested that you use the K1TTT node because I use that
myself (occasionally, as noted) and I know that it's well connected with
a steady feed, but you might want to pick another one and see if that
seems to work better for you. I'd just pick one off the list that seems
to be close to you. As I mentioned, most these days are very
interconnected and you should have no trouble receiving spots.

On the other hand, if you're happy with the spots from DX Summit then I
can't really think of any reason to change.

One disadvantage of using DX Summit with for DX4WIN spots is that frequency is
only accurate to the kHz. A spot that shows up on 14200.4 on a browser will
display as 14200.0 in the DX4WIN spot window.

Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2011-08-15 Thread Mel
You might consider using something other than K1TTT. It's an extremely
busy cluster, best to spread the activity around. Using telnet you will
receive each spot exactly once. With a Web server, you are receiving
them in fixed batches. If activity is low, you will receive spots
multiple times. If it gets busy... more than 25 per minute, you may miss
some. I would turn the question around... I would is ask is why use HTTP
(DXSummit)? It's a sub-optimum solution. The only reason I can think of
is if you are behind a firewall such as at work where telnet access is
restricted... but I wouldn't think that is the case for most of us. Who
gets to operate at work? ;-)

Assuming that you're seeing spots coming into the packet window (if not,
then the problem is with the cluster you're connecting to), you need to
make sure that the DX Spots window is sorting by arrival time. In that
window, right-click and select Sort then click on Arrival. (You can also
look at the window title, it should say something like DX spots [DXCC]
sorted by Arrival.

Also, make sure that you haven't accidentally held the window, it'll say
(HOLDING) if it is. If it says that, press the Insert button on your
keyboard when you've got the window in focus.

Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2011-08-13 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
Keep-alive is only an issue if the cluster you connect to requires it.
Basically, some clusters will disconnect you if they don't see anything
from your system within a certain amount of time. If that's the case,
you'll need to have a keep-alive set, but you'd still see spots coming
in for the first few minutes until the time-out kicked in.

Which cluster are you connecting to, and do you see spots coming into
the packet window?

You might want to try something like the K1TTT-1 cluster which is tied
to a skimmer, meaning that you'll get a pretty much constant flow of
spots, especially now with the WAE CW contest in progress.

[Dx4win] Dx spots new band/mode

2009-12-10 Thread LY2CX
Hi,
need a help please.
On the spot window I do use DXCC colors, and I do
expect to see colors set (in the preferences) for the New band/mode,
but instead I see colors set (in the preferences) for New award band
The country is never worked on this band.

Is this (Award way) the only way I can see the colors for the new one on
the band?
Is it possible to switch off the award colors ?

A lot of colors in the new version, still getting lost :)

[Dx4win] dx spots stop coming in???

I have noticed lately, maybe to upgrading to DX4WIN version 7.07.02 that the
spots mysteriously just stop coming in without any notice from the connected

Any help would be appreciated.
I am running DX4WIN and Time Warner Roadrunner internet connection behind a

The other computer off the router is controlling a Echolink VHF link to our

Re: [Dx4win] dx spots stop coming in???

It sounds like you just plain lost your connection to the node.
Happens all the time.

I recommend you run the VE7CC Cluster User interface. See this URL:

  http://www.ve7cc.net/

This will keep your connection active, and will reconnect if it's lost.

Or you can use the keep alive version of the DX4WIN.TCP file - see
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/
If you upgraded, you probably don't have the keep alive version anymore.

I did a sh/time and saw the node I was connected to was running on

My guess is that the 23z spots are being tagged as next day spots. In that
case, those will appear at the bottom, then the first 23 hours (00z-2259z) will
be inserted before them.

Zone or country? You can do country filtering by prefix in the preferences, go
to the Packet1 tab.

If you mean at the cluster (which is more desirable), it depends on which
software your cluster is running. Both DX Spider and AR have extensive
filtering capabilities, too much to describe here.

If it's DX-Spider, look for the user manual on:

  http://www.dxcluster.org/main/

If it's AR-cluster, look for the user manual on:

[Dx4win] DX Spots

2004-05-12 Thread Ed Steeble

Rick,

I think I can help with part of you question, ie the filtering the internet
spots.

After you telnet in type:

set/filter k/pass (or what ever country you want to see spots from)

Or to limit spots to given states:

set/filter doc/pass k
set/filter dos/pass nc,sc,ga,fl (this is a list of states that you want to
see the spots from)

to view your filter setting, type

show/filter

These filter are retained when you log off the packet node. You will have
to set them for each packet node that you access.

2. What is the command I send to the internet spot to reject any spots that
originate outside of my particular zone? IE, while it is nice to see that JA

3. Any other tidbits that I should know about spots, settings, etc.? :)

[Dx4win] DX Spots

2004-05-12 Thread Mike Rhodes
Rick,
Here is what I did and it sure simplifies things until an autoconnect
feature comes along...

Save a copy of your dx4win.tcp file under a different name (dx4win_all.tcp
or whatever) or in a different location. Open the dx4win.tcp file with
notepad and delete all the clusters you do not use. Hopefully you have a
single reliable node picked out and that will be the only one you keep. Save
your file. Now when you open it up there will only be one entry and all you
have to do is click ok.

The next step is to set one of the packet window f-keys to your call and
%M for carriage return and any other keys for your frequently used commands
(sh/dx/50, etc.), Makes things much much simpler!

 Not at this time.

Zone or country? You can do country filtering by prefix in the
preferences, go
 to the Packet1 tab.

If you mean at the cluster (which is more desirable), it depends on which
software your cluster is running. Both DX Spider and AR have extensive
filtering capabilities, too much to describe here.

If it's DX-Spider, look for the user manual on:

   http://www.dxcluster.org/main/

If it's AR-cluster, look for the user manual on:

it looks you are conneted to a http address ??
if so, the spots are retrieved from that page only once, i.e. the screen is
not refreshed automatically. You can retrieve the most recent spots by
pressing the Enter key in the packet window. Note that for http addresses
the window title bar shows the current action and possible error messages.
Try the cluster connection you have in the 503 version... or connect to
KE9KD. mabe it solves the problem. It works here.

Now about the map and propagation cant help as I never used it... sri hi.

[Dx4win] DX spots sometimes seem to stall-Maybe reason discovered!

2003-03-14 Thread W0YG Charlie Summers
I may have discovered the reason the spots seem to stall. I occasionally
have been having trouble with the date and time randomly changing in my
computer. Not sure why but it does. Just a bit ago I found the date and
time were back in 2000 which may account for the problem. Now that I have
observed this possible affect, I might have an explanation if it happens
again.

I am not sure the reason this happens because I use Tardis to set the
date/time every half hour. There may be more than one problem associated
with the mysterious date/time change as it might stall Tardis too. Not
sure.

Thanks for the inputs/suggestions.

It was only luck that I noticed the problem.

There is a setting in Tardis called Maximum Correction Allowed which should
prevent this from happening, i.e. it would just ignore a bad server and
set the
time at the next interval.

This is a good point. For reasons I don't understand, some software,
running in the background under windows, can also disrupt timekeeping. I
use automachron for internet time -- a big feature for me when I was
chasing a clock problem was its logging feature that would tell you hoe
much of a correction had been applied each interval. I finally tracked my
problem down to a redundant sound card mixer that was running in the
background! The hardware it related to was disabled in the BIOS but it
kept doing something disruptive anyway.

You will note that the DX4WIN.PUT file comes and goes. It is only
there when there are spots in the DX spot window. If you exit DX4Win
without clearing the spots the .PUT file remains with spots. If you
clear the spots and don't exit DX4Win the .PUT file remains. If you
clear the spots and then exit DX4Win the file is renamed to
DX4WIN.~UP, thereby effectively deleting it. You can delete the ~UT
file and the .PUT file will be recreated the next time a spot is
placed in the DX spot window. At least that's the way it works here.
BTW, I use the DX-Telnet interface.

2003-02-21 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Mel, I may not have been clear about this last night.

Backup DX Spots is supposed to use the backup timer to write the unsaved
spots to disk at regular intervals. Just like it does for the open log. I
asked for this a while back, so that a DX4WIN crash would not delete all the
spots that were only live in memory. You would only lose any unsaved spots
since the last backup interval.

However, it seems that Paul may have broken something in the latest versions,
which cause the spots to NOT be saved to disk when you exit the program, and
Backup DX Spots is not enabled.

I installed DX4WIN in Demo mode at the office.

With Backup DX Spots unchecked, the spots are NOT saved. The
installation
includes a default packet spot file from Paul, it reverts to the original
list
of spots when I exit DX4WIN and start again.

I do not understand at home why it appears that my spots are kept. I had
turned Backup DX Spots off because I didn't want the PC writing to my
backup
ZIP drive every 2 minutes with the last saved spots.

It seems like there may be a bug here. The spots need to be saved when
you
exit DX4WIN, regardless of whether Backup DX Spots is checked or not.
This
is certainly the way 5.03 used to work.

I will check a little more at home this weekend to see exactly what's
happening
in the shack. If I've made anyone crazy, I apologize. I'll stick to
callsign
to country mappings in the future! :-)

Paul, please put it back in the next version, it works ok in v 5.03.

Now, I got the idea to reinstall 6.02 and found that it didn't help. In
DX4WIN.put there are a bunch of spots from start and they remain but all
spots added, coming from internet or local 144 MHz link, are gone after
 restarting DX4WIN.

I got one answer from AD1C/Jim who has not this problem. Are there no
others but me having the problem?
 Using W98SE.

[Dx4win] DX Spots Window

Hello,
last Feb. 15 I posted the following message:

Another observation is that all spots from internet are lost after
exit from DX4WIN. When I use my normal set-up to the local
DC-cluster via 144 MHz spots remain.

Now the two cases are identical i.e. spots are lost when opening
DX4WIN again, v 6.02. I have the impression that it was ok in the
beginning, there are spots saved from from Feb. 9 and 10. This has
nothing to do with checking 'Leave all windows in original position'
 in Preferences/Screen.

Check that the DX4WIN.put file isn't set read only (right click it in
explorer and check the attributes, or use the 'ATTRIB DX4WIN.PUT'
command in a DOS window.
If it's read-only, DX4WIN can't update it.

[Dx4win] DX Spots Window Question

2003-02-08 Thread Mark
Does anyone know the significance and meaning of the first column in the DX
Spots Window? The title of the column is P and a single digit number
appears for each entry received from the packet cluster.

Tnx 73,

That is a priority listing for the spot...based on your setup.
