Re: [Dx4win] External Data

2019-02-07 Thread Tim moore
At the BOTTOM of the pageafter going to File>Preferences>Ext Data:
(copied from my 9.x versionbut this should be the same in your version)

FirstI think this gives the capability to look up callsign info on QRZ
via *YOUR WEB BROWSER* using the *ALT F3* key combination

*Website callsign lookup:*

X Enabled

Address – http://www.qrz.com/db/

Then this critical partwhich gives the F3 (and JUST the F3 key, as
opposed to the ALT F3 mentioned above) key it's function: (for the callsign
popup windowwhich is what I think you're trying to get)

*Online callsign lookup:*

*X Enabled*

*Initial callsign lookup:*

http://xmldata.qrz.com/xml/current/?username=[USERNAME];password=[PASSWORD];agent=[PROGRAM
*]*

*Callsign lookup address:*

http://xmldata.qrz.com/xml/current/?s=[SESSIONID];callsign=[CALLSIGN*]*

*User info: **Your Callsign hereie ...NS4J*

*Password:* *Your password for logging on QRZ here*

Do NOT put ANYTHING in the URL's where it says USERNAME and PASSWORD and
PROGRAM and SESSIONID and CALLSIGN. Leave the URL's EXACTLY as I have
posted them here. ONLY put your callsign and password DOWN BELOWwhere
it asks for "user Info" and "Password". This is working for me
perfectly.both for web browser lookups using Chrome on the QRZ site
when hitting ALT F3and for getting just the address info using JUST the
F3 key in the QSL info popup window.

I'm at work right now and don't have access to my DX4WIN app. But I'll look
when I get home (if someone else hasn't answered). You have to have the
correct URL (and you may or may not have that correct)and you have to
have your correct login userid (think that's your callsign) and the correct
password from your QRZ login. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, there
may be two URLs you have to enter? Again, I'll have it EXACTLY when i get
home in a few hours and check.

Maybe someone else will answer before me

Re: [Dx4win] External data base

2018-12-10 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Regarding: RAC not working (Flying Horse Error 123)

I'm attaching a copy of the "Ext Data" tab of my preferences, but it
will probably get stripped by the reflector. The main points are:

Data Source should be "Flying Horse CDRom"

Data Directory should be the path to the directory containing the
callbook.exe fil, and should not include callbook.exe at the end

Also check that your dx4w###\EXTDATA directory has the necessary DLL
file (it should be part of the DX4WIN installer). Mine is:

 Directory of C:\Users\jr920141\Box Sync\dx4w903\extdata\*
 2/10/2017 20:46 56,320 RACCD32A.DLL

I just tested and it's working fine for me.

Hello Steve

Sorry I have not this cd so I don't know a lot. I am just trying to give
ideas.

So under file>preferences>Ext data tab

Have you filled the path to the right box. It seems you need to make 3
steps:

1. select Data source as Flying Horse CDRom

2. Write the path in QSL Manager search (EXE) box

3. Click on Enabled

and off course save changes and exit.

My understanding is that clicking on the Update button in the F3
window will not replace any field in the QSO that is already
populated. DX4WIN assumes that whatever the user put there is more
correct than the external data source. For example, if the F3 windows
gives CO, Adams as the state/county, and the QSO has the state set to
MN, neither the state nor county will be changed in the logbook.

I have found the best prices and service for the RAC from John on the

I paid $37.00 for the current Winter 2013 edition which came on a CD and USB

He is presently out of stock for the current RAC. He takes orders in advance
then submits his order to Germany. But you could ask if he has any left
over.

I use his GOLIST for my QSL MGR info in the F3 window.

Radio Amateur Callbook (Flying Horse) works best with DX4WIN. It can
populate State, Country, Drid and Name by clicking on a button in the
Callsign/Mgr Lookup (F3) window. As far as I know, it's the only one that

Good point. But also the name, country, etc is not entered for DX stations
as it is for USA stations.

Just a guess, but maybe DX4WIN is set to only accept a 6 digit grid number.
All international calls are 4 digit in the RAC.

Please correct me if I am wrong but in my setup the RAC CD (Flying Horse
CDRom) setup will only provide this data to USA calls. I do this by clicking
on the UPDATE QSO button in the CALLSIGN/MGR LOOKUP (F3) window as Jim
stated. On most DX stations the UPDATE QSO button is grayed out. But with
some DX stations the button seems to be active (J5NAR, ZB2FK, J88DR, are
recent examples in my log) but there is no info in the GRID box and when you
click on UPDATE QSO nothing happens.

I use the RAC data I downloaded/installed from the CD in C:\Program Files
(x86)\Radio Amateur Callbook (where the RAC wanted to be downloaded by
default. Previously I had just used C:\RAC but my latest version, Winter
2013, refused to work from there. I kept getting error messages during my
install. Letting it install into C:\Program Files (x86)\Radio Amateur
Callbook where the install program wanted it to go let it install OK.

If there is a way to do this also with DX stations plse let me know.

Part of the process of upgrading is to migrate your preferences. Did
you read the Upgrade application note at http://dx4win.ad1c.us ?

Also, automatic update isn't restored by default. When you hit F3
the first time after upgrading, right-click and select Automatic
Update.

Hello Bill, and the fellows...

I cannot seem to search the QRZ data base on web using DX4Win. Is anyone
 using this feature?

Go to the Main menu File Preferences ExtData and put the following
string in both boxes Website callsign lookup address and QSL manager
lookup address:

http://www.qrz.com/db/

Exit with save and then, in the log window, press F3. When the Callsign /
